Title: Trying To Find Re Style Game!?
Description: Had blood and/or rose in the title?

rufusbezak - February 16, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
I remember seeing previews for it a few years back, it came across as a sort of RE style game, with maybe a bit of silent hill thrown in. I'm almost sure the games protagonist was female also. It was set in olden days and everything had a sort of sepia tone to it.

I also remember the game was totally slated, and recieved not so good reviews. Can't even remember if it was for console or PC.

I'm hoping for PC, but I suspect it was for PS2. I know for a fact it wasn't for Xbox.

Not much to go on, but any ideas of the name?

Cheers for any help you can give

;)

EDIT: Just remembered, it sorta reminded me of Shadow Of Memories, which is what interested me in it.

Suprised nobody picked up on this. Maybe you lot aren't so knowledgable about games as I thought!

Anyways, I found out the name of the game myself. It' was 'Rule Of Rose' on the shitty PS2,

LeonPlisken - February 23, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Hey the ps2 wasn't shitty... but yeah I remember seeing previews for this game, kind of wanted to check it out, the only game really making me sweat with anticipation now has to be Dark Sector, the first time I saw it I was thrilled to see a spooky sci fi. When they totally redid it I was thrilled to see a game that looked to play a lot like re4, just bigger badder smarter villains. Then I found out you get a bad ass mutant arm!

rufusbezak - February 24, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
Yeah, sorry about the PS2 comment. I realise it had it's fans, of which I wasn't one :P

You know, I don't play a lot of games, don't even have a next gen console even! Only dead gen :D Xbox, GC, Saturn, N64, PSX. But Dark Sector looks GOOD, exremely good!

I'm gutted it's not coming to the PC :(

LOL. I think you skim through posts to fast!

If you read my second post, I found the game, it's 'Rule Of Rose' on the PS2.

Is 'Gears of War' like RE & SH? I heard the PC version is shite and takes like a decade to install. Is that true?

Nectarine - February 24, 2008 06:11 AM (GMT)
... I think he's naming off RE style games. Not a game that has "rose" in it.

Its a third person shooter, imo plays better than resident evil 4,but you will need quite a system to play it.

LeonPlisken - February 24, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that system is the 360. lol Yeah GoW is ok, but it's utter shite at the same time. It's this retarded ad campaign the game companies are doing, make a really short game with great mechanics, then make it super short?! Assassins Crede and GoW are the best examples, but the thing is they're tastes of the real game, WTF?! I buy a game for more than $50 it better blow my mind and my.... ahem... well games are too expensive now to just do lame ass shit like they're doing. :(

jamesuminator - February 24, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
that is why you mod your 360.

In the good ol' days of one ot two button (if you were lucky) joysticks, games would seem to last you a lifetime, well months at least, which is a lifetime to a kid!

GoW is short, how short is that exactly? One night, a weekend, a week or two? I'd expect a months gameplay at least, even playing a couple hours a night. This is why I've steered away from the new consoles, although the Wii is tempting me all the time! At least with some PC games, they often have a (VERY fine ;)) modding community which extends the life of the game, plus there's a massive amount of FREEWARE on the PC, and it's being released all the time. Indie & casual games are another plus to PC gaming.

mario galaxy had some a lot of replay value and takes a while longer then other thigns to beat.

I know I'm gonna cave in and get a Wii one of these days.

If I knew RE5 was definitely coming out on the Wii thst'd tipp the balance for definite.

You have a Wii?

I have never had a Wii sadly, and it's getting quite painful :P

Man, that was a shit joke

jamesuminator - February 24, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
i don't have a wii, friend does. dn't have any next gen systems, getting a 360 though and gonna try and mod it to a laptop :P

Fuck me, that looks mint! :o Nice one mate ;)

I'd love to see a wii version of that type of mod.

jamesuminator - February 25, 2008 01:00 AM (GMT)
i know, it only really fits the 360 or ps3 (with the keyboard and all).

they're being sold, it's probably a rip off though, it's not really hard at all to make your own, though splitting the power to one output (monitor and 360) and then making it so seamless will be hard :(

GoW play through = me and my 12 year old brother on the 2nd hardest difficulty in less than 2 days, not staying up late and on a school week.

jamesuminator - February 25, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
bah 2nd hardest difficulty in 5 hours. one day straight.

Co op of course.

I'd love to see a wii version of that type of mod.

Actually, there IS one. Look around here:
http://www.benheck.com/
I would try to make one myself, but if I end up destroying my Wii, I probably won't be able to get another one for a while... and I want to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. xD

Oh, and Gears' Single Player is easy. Insane (Hardest difficulty) was disappointing. The only part of the game that was hard was RAAM. He's a bitch.

Gears is pretty fun, though.

rufusbezak - February 26, 2008 06:08 AM (GMT)
Man, considering all the trouble that bloke went to, I wan't really all that impressed with his Wii conversion. He could have made it a bit more interesting. Plust the screen is miniscule.

GoW sounds like a game worth only renting or borrowing to me. I don't like the way longevetiy of games is getting shorter and shorter, to match peoples increasingly short attention spans no doubt!

Do any of you know how well GoW runs on the PC? Bioshock is about the limit of what my computer can run and still look reasonably good. Something like Oblivion needs many options turned off. Where does GoW sit between (hopefully between!) then two games?

I should maybe just find a GoW demo, if there is one?
You've got me itchong to play it now ;)

rufusbezak - February 27, 2008 05:28 AM (GMT)
Aaaarrrghhh, GoW on the PC is a fucking nightmare! I borrowed it last night, but have regretted it ever since. While it lasts, (which is usually anywhere between 60 seconds to 5 minutes) the game looks awesome, even on my PC. There are some weird graphical bugs also, but the constant crashing and lockup of the game (AND subsequently my PC) is a nightmare. I reckon everyone who bought the PC version of GoW needs to group together and take Microsoft to court.

I had a similar problem with Bioshock, which I took back to the shop and got my money back. At least they eventually sorted Bioshock, and I bought it again! GoW has been out a while now on the PC, but I can't find any official fixes, only dodgy patches and cracks, none of which have worked.

:(

EDIT: Had to have another go at installing the game. Even the few minutes I experienced last night urged me on to try again.
Found a HUGE list of fixes to try here: GoW Fixes

Still, what a fucking travesty that a RETAIL game could be released in such a bugridden state!?

Anyways, done the registry edit fix, and a few other bits and bobs. Runs flawlessly now :D

Thanks for tipping me off about the greatness of GoW. I never imagined it would run so well on my mediocre system. I'll have to track a cheap copy down now.

jamesuminator - February 27, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
hahaha, RE4 was in a far worse state XD

So true mate.

Gamers, particularly PC gamers, have been handed some absolutey bugridden and just plain broken releases over the years. At least 'some' potentiolly great games have been saved (and sometimes even greatly improved upon) by small but very talented groups of modders such as yourself, jamesuminator. ;)
