Title: Obscure Or Forgotten Games
Description: Name your faves, if you have any ;)

Ocassionally we all come across some unheard of game. Perhaps your buying some preowned games, and you need to find that one last game to make up the 4 needed to get the '4 for X amount' deal. And occasionally you'll choose some weird, slightly older, or obscure unheard of game? And if your lucky, it turns out to be a bit of a gem.

I'd like to hear your lists of obscure or forgotten games please :D

Here's the ones I can think of off the top of my head that I own:

Ballistics (A strange, but INSANELY fast futuristic racer)

Space Hulk - Vengence of the Blood Angels (Great Warhammer strategic FPS, and huge influence on Gears of War, in my opinion)

Alien Shooter Vengeance (Frenetic diabloesque alien horde shooter)

Infestation (Vehicle based shooter with real world physics)

Wild Metal (Similar to Infestation, above, and It's FREE!)

Bangai-O (N64/Dreamcast shmup that can turn shmup haters into shmup lovers!)

Grand Prix Legends (Said to be the BEST racing sim ever. With some great update mods)

Messiah (Great game, IF you can get it to run!)

Nocturne (Impressive survival horror(?) for it's time)

Severence - Blade of Darkness (Hack and slash goodness. I want a sequel!)

NoX (Kinda like Zelda, diablo style)

All I can think of for now ;)

does obscure count?...that and obscure two are ironically obscure games. totally awesome, both of them, 2 is more action based and has some irritating bits like bosses but i'm still not wure witch i like best. although i liked how 1 used light as a weapon, something that dissapeared from two almost completely.

vampire the masquerade redemption, ten times better than bloodlines, probably ten years older too, everyone needs to play this.

dredd vs deth, randomly arresting everyone you meet will probably get tired eventually....i think.

cold fear could probably be classed as quite obscure, very few gamers i know could tell what it is by name recognition, a lot better than the vanilla resi evil 4 pc.

dreamfall, the longest journey 2, looking forward to 3 as long as it doesnt go mumorpeger on my ass. an adventure game, didnt like the first cause its a point and click and in the first room there are like, 100s of items and puzzles and most end up as inventory junk. dreamfall as a seemingly simple plot that goes insanely complex and spans two realities, with great acting and modelling i heart it much. although its very linear and wouldnt survive consecutive playthroughs.

i know of messiah, never got to play it though. another game lik ethat is the first starship troopers game, in that it wont work i mean:P
heard great things about it and saw it on shelves before i had a pc, forgot about it and years later download it, installs but wont run...typical really. i'm going to try again since i have all new parts since then, and maybe this one is better...although my drivers wont let escape from butcher bay work.

well let me think a bit..... ... ..

here are the ones I own:

Nocturne (I really liked it when it came out)

Cold Fear (great game)

XIII

Penumbra (overture and black plague - both recommendable)

Fahrenheit

the thing

Mechcommander (1 and 2)

...and some others I don't remember right now

Rengoku- It seems obscure to me just because I know hardly anyone who actually plays the PSP. It's a great sci-fi hack n' slash though.

Eirhgeiz? - Hardly anyone I knew had heard of this game, hell even the FF fans I know didn't even know what it was. I thought the fighting game and the bonus adventure mode were both mediocre, but fun.

Cold Fear - Ok, so it's obscure, but I honestly thought the gameplay felt just really awkward.

That's about all I can name at the moment, I might think of more.

lent ergheiz once but it was in black and white(import) and japanese so i dinint think much of it lol.

i wouldnt have said the thing was obscure, it got a lot of magazine time till it came out then jut got average reviews. i liked it although th bosses were harder than they should have been and one can just be ran past. the infected system was mainly just scripted but there were times where you could test it, leave a teammate with oen of the few people who jusrt turns almost instantly as they join your team and come back later, they both turn, where only one would, i did this to my whole team to test at one point, the underwater labs, shame nothing ws shown on cameras, a 'bennings moment' would have been amazing.

I would say the games you've all mentioned so far are at least slightly obscure, some moreso than others, and in the case of the rather excellent Ehrgeiz (that you mentioned, LeonPlisken) long forgotten sadly :(

Never heard of Rengoku though. I think your right about the PSP. I don't know anyone who owns a PSP, and you never see many people with them in the UK.

Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, has to be my fave relatively unknown game. I bought it brand new, for a measly 99p! The packaging and blurb on the back seemed to hide the fact this was a deeply absorbing and action packed (unofficial) REMAKE of the classic Carrier Command!

Anyone remember Bad Mojo, or it's even more obscure remake?
>It's a strange one!<

Here's a relatively unknown new game:

Nitro Stunt Racing: Stage 1

You probably thinking 'Trackmania rip-off and you'd be right, sorta. Not that Trackamania was ever original. I enjoyed Nitro Stunt Racing as much as I did Trackmania, if not more. It's insanely fast and the cars can really fly!

I have both those games and love 'em.

Disaster Report - Really fun survival horror game that has to do with getting out of a city during an earthquake!

Raw Danger - The sequel to Disaster Report where you play 6 different parts to a story about people escaping a city during a flood.

Shadow of Memories/Destiny - This was a sleeper hit about a man who has to travel in time to prevent his own death from happening.

Pen Pen Tricealon - A neat racing game starring whacky pets for Dreamcast. You ran, swam, and tobogganed through 5 crazy courses.

Evil Zone - Probably the corniest fighting game I ever played... kept me amused for the longest time.

Jet Force Gemini - A neat 3rd person shooter made by Rare, this N64 game was the start of my downfall to eventually become addicted to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

I remember jet force gemini, I sucked at that game! Think it will be the nect game to get a next gen sequel? I mean perfect dark did... that wasn't bad, I mean it really wasn't amazing... but... jet force 2!!

rufusbezak - March 4, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Jet Force Gemini was great for it's time! A bit of an epic if you as me. Not so obscure though, maybe a tad forgotten.

Shadow of Memories, which you mentioned, Nectarine, is an old fave of mine. Slow paced but absorbing.

Anyone remember Outcast? The voxel 3d arcade adventure, NOT the Star Wars game. Man, Outcast was and still is a great game. Even the gfx still look fantastic. It was all software driven 3d gfx engine apparently.

It got great reviews but was a bit of a flop sales wise. Maybe because computers needed to run it well, wouldn't be around for another year or two AFTER it's release! :P I still play through it at least once a yer. It's like watching a calssic film in a way. It actually ages well, unlike most games.

Not to shabby for a game dating back to 1999 eh!?
