My old fave, The Bug (mine was the glossy black model though) I used for many years, you cradled it in one hand, using the thumb & forefinger for each fire button, and used the other hand to control the stick. Bomb proof design also, I'd say arcade quality components, clicking microswitches etc, Quite a heft to it for such a small device.

I really loved the NES pad for a while, but it gave you blisters on your thumb!

The Atari Jaguar pad really suprised me at the time, as did the Jaguar console. Each game had a little insert for the keys, to show you which did what, it was really a great idea, and I'm suprised it didn't catch on, Closest thing to it now are those EXPENSIVE zboard thingies.

The Dreamcast pad was superb, so superb in fact , Microsoft copied many elements of both the pad and the Dreamcast console!

The pad for sausage fingered people! I hated the xbox simply because of this pad. Wasn't until I tried the new s-pad, that I finally got an Xbox.

I still use the old Xbox pad on my PC. It's never been a particular fave though. The 360 pad seems to be a finely honed and much better version though. The Gamecube pad would be way up there if it weren't for that stupidly placed Z button!!??
I've had tons of different control devices over the years, I'm sure you all have, but which do you consider the best, the weirdest and the worst!? ;)
