This game is pretty old, but I just noticed what a jewel it is. See, I got it free when I bought my XBOX, and since I never really was interested in RPGs that much, I tossed it in the corner along with heaps of demo discs. I was wrong.
Now, its been 3-4 years, I cant remember since then. And only now I realize what an amazing game it is. I call it, the GTA of RPGs, because you can basically do EVERYTHING in it. You'll say, hey, Oblivion and Gothic beat it any time, but something about this game makes it stand out.
Im going to try to make a list of all the stuff you can do as best I can.
First of all, you start your hero's life as a boy in the land of Albion. Now, most of the game revolves around good and evil, doing good things or bad things. So, in most situations, you'll have the option if you want to do something the good way or the bad way. When you leave your childhood behind you enter Teenage life, which is basically just when you train in the heroe's guild, more of a tutorial stage of the game. The game really begins when you reach adulthood. From there and on, everything is in your hands.
You get renown for the good things you do (quests, helping people out, saving them from monsters), but also for the bad things (bad quests like helping out villains, killing innocent people, etc.) If you get lots of good renown and become good people clap when you enter town, follow you around, children cheer, chicks fall in love with you. If you are bad people run away from you, children are afraid, people call you 'my lord' (but you can be made fun of, it depends on your scariness or attractiveness--more later) Here are things you can do:
-If you see people on a road being attacked by lets say bandits, and you kill the bandits, you become more good and gain renown.
-You can do good quests, fighting for good, or bad quests, like helping bandits.
-You can show off trophies you got from quests, like a Hydra's tooth (and then a little mini game starts, 'how many people can you show your trophy to within the time limit') That will earn you renown depending on what trophies you show off. If you show off a trader's head, you will earn bad renown and people won't like you very much.
-You can alter your appearance. Go to a barber and get a new hairstyle or beard. Get some tatoos. Those affect your scariness (which will make people fear you) and your attractiveness (which will make them love you). Also almost every set of armor or clothing exists in regular, bad and good. Shit, lemme rephrase that. For example, you have plate armor? That basically won't affect scariness or attractiveness. But you can get Bright plate armor, which will increase your attractiveness, or Dark Plate armor, which will increase your scariness. Also, if you max out your evilness, you will grow horns, your eyes will glow red, you'll have red mist around you'll be followed by flies. That makes you VERY scary. I don't know what happens if you max out your goodness though, ive never been that good, MUHAHA!
-You can eat (wow) but theres more to it. Food will heal you, but if for example you eat a food like a crunchy chick, you'll become more evil. For obvious reasons I guess. Also, the more you eat, the fatter you get. Lets see that happen in the Witcher!
-You can fish! With a fishing rod. Its a little mini game, and in the end you earn a fish which you can eat OR an item. I even caught a boot once.
-You can dig up treasures with a spade!
-You can hire mercenairies to fight by your side!
-You can level up (no shit). But its not a shitty im a level 45 archer system , its way less cheesy. If you level up in strength, your hero grows older and if he gets real old he'll get white hair. If you level up in Will you'll, uh, look older and, uh, more magical.
-You can give offerings in chapels. If you go to the Chapel of Skorm (the evil god) you can offer human sacrifices (trick people into following you into the chapel) and as a reward you'll become more evil. If you go to the Temple of Avo (the good god) you can donate money and earn goodness.
-You can kill people randomly! Yey! You'll become more evil for that.
-You can rob houses! You can pick the house locks and creep in when the owners are sleeping and steal all their stuff or kill them and buy their house. When you've bought it you can upgrade it or rent it out (or sell it of course). If the house has trophy cases, you can put some trophies in em and so when you rent'em out you can get more money.
-You can use emotes (expressions)! If you are evil you can say stuff like SHIT or do a vulgar thrust (or point the rude finger at people).
-You can get married! Find a woman, buy her gifts (like chocolates, rubies, diamonds, perfume), flirt, use expressions. Then when you're ready to get married you can give her a wedding ring and move into a house you own. You can even marry a man or more than 10 women at a time, but you'll need to own one seperate house for each to live in. And if you flirt with someone else in front of your wife she gets jealous and buys you expensive gifts like armor! You can make her follow you to a bedroom, flirt with her and eventually have sex! You even get a dowry when you marry. Don't expect to marry though if you're scariness is high.
-There are lots of spells you can cast.
-You can cut people's heads off in combat! Then others will stare at his head and say 'oh, i can't look!'
-You can play mini games at taverns like Blackjack and much more.
-There's these doors called demon doors that tell you they'll only open if you do what they tell you to do, which is pretty fun.
-You can fight in the Arena!
Theres lots more that I just cant remember since theres so freaking much.
Oblivion stole LOTS of its ideas from Fable. For example the Arena (its almost the same in Oblivion as it is in Fable), lockpicking, going to jail (theres a part in the game where you go to jail which reminded me a lot of Oblivion).
There arent SO many weapon types and bows and armor and clothes as in other RPGs, but hey, I never liked it when there were waaaay too many, it just got boring collecting all of them. And at least the 'Legendary' rare swords in Fable are cool and don't all look the same like in Oblivion, where tons of swords have the same 3d model and textures but just have a different name. Also there aren't that many monster types and the land of Albion is much smaller that Cyrodiil, but what the hell, I enjoyed it much more than Oblivion, this choice making method. Besides, Fable was made way before. Thanks for reading and for your time, i think this game really deserves more attention than it got. Its the most magical and rewarding RPG Ive ever played. Ever. And deserves a spot in the 10 best RPGs ever made.
Here are screenshots (Id post my own, but since I have this game on XBOX, ill just put stuff from google).

Notice the horns.

Fishing. Don't look at the graphics of this screenie, its the pc versino I think, we all know what companies do to pc versions.

An old hero, looks more good than evil.

When chicks love you.

Evil with horns, wearing assasin's clothes (pc graphics)

The undead. Not sure if this area exists in XBOX version though, I think its Pc only.

When you're a kid.

One of many tattoos that you can get. This guy is evil.

A hero in his early adulthood fighting off bandits using the first magic you learn: Lightning. The yellow heads over the guys behind mean that they are following the hero.
