Title: Online Games, Anyone?
Nectarine - April 20, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
Erm, well...
Just wanted to know if anyone played any cool online games. Right now, the only online game I play is Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus.
I did download Archlord a little while ago since it turned free and I have Guild Wars: Nightfall, but I don't really play those.
So, yeah... anyone? :P

Nope I don't, but I did used to play the original Unreal Tournament online many years ago. Guild Wars: Nightfall looks beautiful! So it's totally free, or just free to play? It's got me interested suprisingly, it looks better than all the online RPG type games I've seen screenies and gameplay footage of.
What's with WoW though!? The game looks like crap, is populated with pissy spoilt brats, so why is it so popular?
EDIT: I remembered, I also used to play Phantasy Star Online on my Dreamcast, but it was deadly boring :P
What's Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus, like?

from what i heard the fightinsg similar but better, i liked pso, but it deleted my character when i got to level 35, then it did it again on the pc version later on, the opc version also doesnt like minimising and everytime something pops up, anything, teh game shust down, witch it seemed to do every hour i had it, so frustrating i just uninstalled.
screw final fantasy, the best rpgs of all time are shining force 2 and ps4 for mega drive, rom them and see for yourself.
i used to play wow on a free server, but the longer i plaed the more broke the server went, and without proper game devs to sort it out npcs were going missing, missions were freezing and breaking like mad, the pvp option broke on the on setting and you couldnt learn another skill after doing 2 (wouldnt even let you unlearn) it screwed up so much thsi one was off my comp as well.
i dont bother with grinder games anymore.
CoughCoughShitShit - April 20, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
I play Wolfentstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars a LOT. As you can see.

Phantasy Star Universe is like... PSO but with more customization and a lot more "character"-based play. I liked PSO, and I also like PSU. They're both similar and different, which I like.
PSO was more oriented around getting the right drops and building your weapons with grinders and stuff.
PSU is more that you can use synthesis to make weapons and items for yourself and instead of a MAG, you have a Partner Machinary which can fight alongside you as if it were an NPC partner once it hits level 80. (It's a lot easier to feed it and raise levels compared to MAGs in PSO)
That and the customization you put into your character really counts. I know most people aren't exactly as wet for that stuff as I am when it comes to an online game, but I like the fact that if I get tired of how my person looks, I can just go cut them up for X amount of meseta and change everything about them. (Sans Gender)
Well, it's one of the only ORPGs I've played where I got past level 20 without being bored as fudge. I'm currently level 36 and I started two weeks ago.
Guild Wars is totally free once you buy the game disks. I'd recommend it if you like a game where you can work at your own pace. The level cap is 20, so no one feels over powered by anyone else and the quests are actually fun. Plus, the storyline and the characters have a lot of twists to them. :)

I play anything Half-Life related... mainly because I have Steam and its the only game(along with a lot of its mods) that I have on my PC. I also have Starcraft.
The only MMORPG I used to play was Ragnarök Online.
Nectarine - April 20, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
Ragnarök Online... was that the 3D/2D Japanime/Koreanish game?
Bleh, I dislike those cutesy games.
el-b - April 20, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
nectarine, any idea if guild wars has cracked exes out? when i've cleaned though the last two games i got on here i'll need something else to waste the time between photoshop.
Nectarine - April 20, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
No, it doesn't work like that. The game gives you an account ID number in your purchase.
The game itself is free. The account number isn't. If you buy the game from the store, it comes with an account number.
It's not a monthly P2P thing though.
You can also just go download the game from the official site, but you'll still need the account info. It's 10 bucks for an account number.
el-b - April 20, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
guess i'll have to go through my collection again then lol.

I've only seen a 2D one, I get bored of RPGs easy.
Oh and I guess Diablo 2 counts? That's the only one I've ever finished. I always stuck with the Paladin as my character. :)

i do admit i have got used to the internets little pleasures, but i do support games and movies i like, they just happen often enough to warrant me spending my dole money on when i had to pay other things. i intend to get a vehicle of my own someday and that cant happen when i get a quid a week for myself.
thechosen1 - April 21, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
I played a lot of War Rock. Now it's all about premium people, and it sucks because of all the whiny little noobs out there.
I also played Runescape (who didn't?) and Second Life (NOT for social interactions...my friends and I had a Aliens RP going on there)

The only thing about downloading the game off the site is that when you go into a new area, the game actually has to download it as you play. It can be a pain in the ass if you want to move through the game quickly and smoothly.
But once you've downloaded an area, you won't need to download it again.

Hmm, I don't like the sound of that, seems like it would seriously break any gameplay flow (or gaming trance as I call it!) you have going. Don't they allow a FULL download option?
Cro-Cop Leon - April 21, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)

I used to play World Of Warcraft frequently... but since I have one computer down, I can't play it because I'm using an old computer to chat and navigate through the Internet. :(

Guild Wars. Haven't played in a while but seeing this thread is making me play again. Updating now. I missed a lot apparently, since I have like a million files to download. :(
If anyone wants to play sometime, my name in that is Ziedrich Illumina. Level 20 Warrior, so if anyone needs help with anything... just message me. Oh, and I have like 6 other Lvl 20 characters.
But yeah, Guild Wars is pretty fun. Can appeal to both casual and hardcore players.
Oh, and I play RO. Not the official servers. You know what I mean. ;)
