Title: Grand Theft Auto 4
Description: The truth... hurts?
LeonPlisken - May 4, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
Despite my first few tries and hours of the game, it's a huge dissapointment.
- Lacks the weapons selection of past gta's
- God awful car handling
- Motorcycles are now an excuse for instant death
- The game play is sluggish as possible
- The graphics while nice feel a little too blurry at times
- All characters are just ugly as possible
- Clothing customization is retarded, everything just makes you look fat
- NO MORE CAR CUSTOMIZATION
- Drinking is fun though
Story wise this is a huge step up, in a way, Niko Bellick has astounding motivation and character; but for sadly all he does on his missions is be a poor bitch who needs money. That's his real motivation, I won't spoil what the "story" says it is.
GTA is over the top, it's crazy, it's fast, it's FUN! This is not GTA... this game just pisses me off. I'm not bad at it or something, I've already made it about 40% into the game in the 2 or 3 days I've owned it.

- GTA
- GTA London
- GTA 2
- GTA 3
- Vice City
- San Andreas
That makes this technically the 7th gta.

Well, we could go back playing San Andreas if we want to
-crash a bike that is going with 200 kms/hr and fly 65m and still live
-drive cars that starts going when you press forward and stops and the moment you press "brake"
-customize our cars with a "big selection" of customizations (3 paintjobs, 2 body kits)
-count dildos, golf clubs, spades as weapons
-and more O_o o_O
blerh, my blood pressure is gettin low <_<

Look, GTA is supposed to be over the top, it's crazy and strange and usually makes no sense. I mean San Andreas had you stealing a Jet Pack and doing missions for a Government agent voiced by James Woods. Vice City had you doing gun runs for Gary Busey, I loved how insane and fast paced GTA used to be. Now it feels like some sad, but graphically brilliant shadow, of it's former self.
- Where's my silent pistol? Where's my Spas 12? Vice City established a huge list of weapons, and San Andreas built even more on that with tons of insane weapons, dildos being strange and hilarious.
- It may have not been deep customization, but you were still able to change things more to your preference.
GTA 4 is as fun as it is a disappointment! Amazingly detailed city that really looks like New York; at the same time it's just as easy to get lost in this ever believable grid of a city. The gun fights are greatly improved, with added realism and cover it's so much easier to get an adrenaline rush; thought you'll have to adjust your entire gta perspective on shooting once you start, running and gunning now equals death. I used to love jumping out of my car and off my bike for dumb reasons and stupid stunts, and now it looks hilarious and fun with rag doll physics; get ready to die hundreds of times though.

(was a AI driver) now see that is what GTA IV is all about :D :ph43r:

I'm going off on a rant, but I just wanna say 360 has caused the death of alot of decent video games.
like just for starters you can buy an FPS today, and it won't support 2player. you can only play multiplayer through online. and your buddy has to own a 360 and have a XBLGold account. MS wants you to think your a loser if you don't own XBL Gold.
Also not too many games are now single player focused. companies know massive online games sell. so they ship out a game that primary function is online. So the average play life of any given game today is about 5hours for an experienced gamer
lastly XBL is a fucking rip off. where do you think all that cash is going? to make XBL a better place? hellz no, MS sold you the consumer untested hardware, that had a life span of 1-3months. now ms is still using your money monthly, yearly to fix there fuckup.
I had replaced 3 xbox360 within the year of 2005. and i think in 2007 the thing broke down once again, this time my store warranty was gone. So I called MS up, and they said give us 200bucks and your old one, and in 2weeks you'll get a new one. FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!
anyway I pawned off the busted one and bought a new one for pretty much even off 200buscks, and didn't have to wait to frick'n 2weeks to ship out to the US.
This time I thought I'd get back at them and mod their piece of shit hardware, so busted the case and modded it. just after that MS did a huge modding raid with the release of halo3. and now my modded 360 is now a giant brick with no warranty, my 2years payed in advance golds subscription now gone.
..guess you didn't have to read.. that was a huge rant.
GTA4 is fun, not worth the hype. but It's a game everyone should play sometime or other, and definitely worth the buy
LeonPlisken - May 5, 2008 05:11 AM (GMT)
I admit that GTA4 is fun, but it's just as big a disappointment in my opinion. I've played the 360 and ps3 version and without a doubt there is no difference.... none, zip, nada! They look the same, they play the same, they suck and rock... the same.
I bought the game and played it, then traded it in for Rainbow 6 Vegas 2; honestly the 2 player makes me happy and the story mod is worth a replay. I think I'm going to go back to just hanging out with my girlfriend though... games are getting tiresome and she wants to go see Indiana Jones as much as I do.
So yeah, GTA 4 is basically GTA 3. It's by all means good and bad, but it's also the new step in a long line of greatly improving gta games.
-gta3 introduced a new engine
- Vice City pushed that engine and introduced new and improved gameplay
- San Andreas fine tuned the engine and added tons of content and gameplay
Thus since gta4 has introduce a new engine I believe it may be a possibility that we will see a new line of GTA's that might create old favorites, or finally go to fucking Japan like it should have.

I don't quite get that line of thinking?
Firstly, as satirical & OTT as the GTA games are, they draw from reality, and there isn't anywhere near the same level of crime in Japan, also, much of the GTA series draws from American radio, film, Music and TV culture, which would not work in a Japanese setting, well, unless your Japanese. Only the most ardent Japanophiles would have a clue, me NOT included
I reckon GTA would only really work in America. The US has the best source of fucked up stuff you can use as game influences, which they have done over and over! I know there was that GTA london game, but it was set in the 60's and I thought it was shit :P

I just think that GTA in Japan would be a cool idea, I mean you know Woozie is cool enough to get his own game... sans the fact that he's blind.

Man, your definitely right, a GTA style game in a freeroaming Japanese styled city would be FANTASTIC! I just think it would be nigh on impossible to directly adapt GTA to Japan.
I mean, aprart from the obvious, and the typical (and often offensive) sterotypes, what do most Amercans know of Japanese popular culture?
GTA draws reference from popular culture, both the good AND bad.

There already is a game like that.
Ever heard of Yakuza, hmmm?
Also I don't have GTA4 but I'd like to ask...is it really like New York? How much like it?
See I used to live there and I get a huge rush of nostalgia through my body whenever its mentioned. If it really IS like New York and has the Strathmore building on 1st Avenure, 84th street, Upper East side where I used to be, then I might just buy a PS3 just for this game.

I don't want to sound like a 360 fan, but they're the same game and the 360 is a little cheaper. I swear they're the exact same, I've played both and see no difference.
Honestly, it's almost block for block a perfect New York city map, you can get lost really easy, it's on a rigid grid... and sky scrapers are kind of fun to climb.
ForSaken_Tears - May 5, 2008 08:38 PM (GMT)
i don't wanna trashtalk but this gta is to much like the getaway for some odd reason for me...
anyway i'm back at playing gta sa and re4..
ow and the bikes sound like grass mowers and the fagio is almost as fast as the dirt bike and sportbike once its on top speed..
i like the way of driving in this game with cars..but the damage feels les real even tho it looks more real then in other gta games it feels les good...
everybody knows gta is not about being real jebus chist on a freaking handjerk machine WE NEED A GTA GAME NOT a getaway
i did like the missions..

Well, it's a game with a specific theme, and it sticks closely to the traditional themes of the games title, and doesn't really attempt to encompass all aspects of popular Japanese culture in the same way GTA does within it's American setting Not that it needs to, it is just a Yakuza game. Cosmetically it may look like GTA, but the similarity really ends there.
I actually thought it was more like True Crime than GTA. I also thought it was fairly shite.

The only reason i played it again after i played it once was so i could jump outa helicopters and go splat, lol i landed on a motor bike and the next second everything was crazy, It was a complete frenzy of cars going one way or another all smashing completely into each other and explosions all around meh.
