Title: Pure Pazaak!
Nectarine - May 20, 2008 11:20 AM (GMT)
Dammit, I randomly acquired the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games and played them both until I couldn't stand playing them anymore. Now that I've done that, I've been thirsting for more games like them.
Now, just some starter info:
I've played both Jade Empire and Fable, and I don't have an X-Box 360 for Mass Effect, so I guess I'm waiting for the PC version of it. I was wondering if anyone knows some good classic RPGs for the computer.
Preferably non-Japanese ones...
And don't say Oblivion. That game sucks.

Man, I thought I was the only one thought that! :o I hated the weird mix of modern and old styled accents, and the mixture of realism in parts, pure silliness in others!?
Anyways, Fallout 2 is SUPERB, especially if you play it in realitime mode (i'm unkeen on turn based stuff) Also, Nox is a classic older RPG, and I loved it. It reminded me very much of the Zelda games. I keep bringing this game up, but
Outcast (1999) is an unmissable arcade adventure styled game, with many RPG elements.
Also worth playing:
Arcanum
System Shock 2
Anachronox
The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time (Emulated)
Gotta go, but that's all i can think of at the minute. There are tons more i just can't remember right now ;)
el-b - May 20, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
i thought oblivion was poo too, i dont like any of the morrowind games, the only good thing about it was patrick stewart was in it and he dies on level 1.
WHAT KIND OF GAME KILLS PICARD ON LEVEL ONE!!!
tell me if this is right, cause after owning and playing the kotor games to death and undeath till they came back to life again i believe that...
kotor 1 has the best plot and levels (the selkath planet was fucking awesome and the dark jedi academy had good puzzles and really added depth to a shallow light vs dark thing that lucas had set up, jolee being the whole shades of grey thing added even more to it....plus hk 47 had more time to shine
kotor 2 on the other hand had the best system for upgrades and other micromanagement like ally alignment. if these two were mixed together it would be perfect...plus atton rand pisses me off, i'd rather have carth and his aragorn like man stubble:P
thechosen1 - May 20, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Well, if KOTOR 2's full storyline had time to develop, it would have been an absolutely epic game. KOTOR 2 was more realistic in that good and evil aren't two complete opposites, and that sometimes doing bad deeds can lead to good things, and vice versa.
And definently play Ocarina of Time, and if you can find it, Majora's Mask. MM isn't as good as OoT, but it's still fun.
Cerberus - May 20, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
Morrowind with all the addons and tons of mods - with this you can spend months of your life...
And I agree Oblivion was crap when it came out but with the overhaul-mod and some smaller teak-mods it becomes really atractive in my eyes.
el-b - May 20, 2008 08:03 PM (GMT)
your forgetting the whole picard killing thing:P
rufusbezak - May 20, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
@ el-b:
I wanna see someone do a Picard mod for RE4 now :P
Anyways, 2 or 3 more that sprang to mind:
Dungeon Siege/Dungeon Siege 2
Planescape: Torment
Kinda old now, but I can't remember enjoying many games as much as I did Heretic 2 at the time. It's worth seeking out if you don't mind the dated gfx, which don't look that bad in my opinion, especially the nice lighting.
Satyr - May 20, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
Well i think rufusbezak made quite a fine list already, the only titles i can think of are the Witcher and Overlord (and its expansion Raising hell).Overlord is not exactly a pure role-playing game but it can keep you entertained for quite a time. The Witcher is definitely a title to check out for any solid role-playing games fan.
rufusbezak - May 20, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
Satyr, nice choices, Overlord was great, but ran like shit on my comp unfortunately :( I proper system hog. Interesting rpg realtime strategy mix I thought.

'I wanna see someone do a Picard mod for RE4 now'
and maybe a phaser rifle to go with him lol.
the first borg episode of the next generation was on befgore csi as well lol, forgot how cheesy they looked at first.

WAT? I loved Atton. He was my favorite character. He was the right kind of annoying.
Maybe because he reminds me of myself. xD
And Carth was awesome too. They're my favorite characters besides Mission Vao and Mira.
Anyways, I've played all the Zelda games. That and I'm not one for the dungeon crawling games. But yeah, I gotta run. So, see you all later. :)
rufusbezak - May 21, 2008 01:35 PM (GMT)
RPG fan who doesn't like dungeon crawling!? :P
Your a wee bit buggered then
I spotted this:
Culpa InnataIt's a point and click adventure, but seems to have quite a few RPG elements, not only that, but it reminds me vaguely of Mass Effect. It has a sex scene in it, so it at least has that in common  :P
It gets great reviews on dedicated adventure game sites, but fairly average reviews elsewhere.
Nectarine - May 21, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Oooh, awesome. I found it already. :)
I'll check this baby out. Thanks.

Please tell us how it is if you get it ;)
I might give it a go myself, since it's been years since I played a point and click adventure.

Well i usually hate those they don't feel dynamic enough.I have two other titles in mind, you absolutely need to play those two games Nectarine (the last one is pure gold), if you haven't yet.
-Dreamfall the longest journey ,Interesting story, nice main character, shame it was too short

-Indigo prophecy
Interesting story, plenty of choices that affect the story line, plenty of intense moments, great characters, and adult stuff (there is a part where you can gain back your ex and have sex with her, when she comes take some stuff she left into your apartment,if you choose the correct words. well I'm guessing liars are going to love this game). If you really want to play this game at its best go for the uncensored European version.

Ok i know, girls like to walk around in underwear in those, but hey why should i complain.I think ladies are served equally too, there are plenty of shirtless guys in those two
rufusbezak - May 22, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
Dreamfall - The longest Journey, bored me to tears actually. Indigo Prophecy was great hough. Played both on the Xbox.
Can you get Indigo Prophecy on the PC? I'm gonna check that now.

Yes there's a Pc version.Well, i actually found Dreamfall pretty decent, short but decent, i guess that's a matter of taste
el-b - May 22, 2008 09:03 AM (GMT)
dreamfall is good, the first one is shite though, its one of those where there are hundreds of items to pick up from the beginning and most are useless.
not really bothered about FARENHEIT actually, it uses so many quicktime events playing it on a keyboard might be redundant.
'Ok i know, girls like to walk around in underwear in those, but hey why should i complain.I think ladies are served equally too, there are plenty of shirtless guys in those two'
from what i remember the only shirtless guy in dreamfall is about a metric tonne and is green with metal bits sticking out lol.
Nectarine - May 25, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Just played Indigo Prophecy, beat it, and love it. :|
I was so depressed all throughout the game that I had to keep playing to see if it all got better.
Poor Lucas. :(
But the only random thing was the whole Carla scene at the end. What was that about? I mean... they were gonna die but... wtf!? So last second.

I love those "wtf" kind of endings  .There are 3 alternate endings depending of the actions you've taken.you can still replay the game and take differents path or you can just check the 3 of them on youtube
Well there were rumors about a possible sequel with "the Heavy rain tech demo"
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/10758.html?type=wmvbut up until now no news from it :( looks like they lied to us
rufusbezak - May 28, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Nectarine, you ever heard of a game called Perry Rhodan? Seems to have a Mass Effect vibe to it. Never played it, but looks worth a try maybe?
It's another RPG styled adventure game. This is the only gameplay footage i could find, it's in German, but you get the idea:
Perry Rhodan GameplayI've seen an English version being sold, and it was cheap also.

Nectarine - May 28, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
Is that a point and click? :|
I kind of hate point and click games... But I'll check it out anyways.
