I love FF9 (ven though its the only FF I've played!) I think its amazing, I love all the characters and their quirks, they're brilliant. I think the story is great too (even though I havn't quite completed it yet) And the backgrounds & cut screens (when it gos to like a film shot) Are all amazing especially for a Playstation 1.

Does anyone else enjoy FF9? Have any of you guys completed it yet?

heyas

well yeah i am working my way through it at the moment and so far i prefer it to FInbal fantasy 7, i havent completed 7 yet and although the story seemed stronger (dont hold me to that as the main story hasnt opened out yet in ff 9) but i enjoy playing 9 a lot more maybe cos its more fantasy mythilogical like, um sort medievil sort stuff i prefer that to guns ans modernisations of fantasy.

FF9 was ok, but nothing beats FF7 in my opinion. i found 9 to be far too easy, zidane annoyed me, and i wanted to find out what happened when you stuck steiner in a giant refuse-disposal unit. muahaha

Momiji-kun - October 12, 2004 05:47 PM (GMT)
hehe i know what you mean about stiener i named him after a guy i know nad it kinda fits lol.

And i know what you all mean by its too easy compared i mean after 2 nights i was on disc 2. it took me minths to get that far on 7.

I think 9 was a nostalga trip for those who played the previous FF's and by that I mean 1,2 and 3. If you've played 1 then you can definatley see the similarities between 1 and 9. I think 9 is a final spin on the PS1 before FF evolved onto the PS2. It was the final squeeze of graphics and I think Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) knew that unless they pulled a rabbit out of a hat they wern't going to get a game that would rival 7. I think they wanted to ease the FF series gently off the PS1 and go for a good all round game that you could drift through or if you were a FF enthusiast you could go on and get all the extra bits and pieces, (Believe me there are loads!) so that no one would be dissapointed.

I don't think 9 was meant to be the next groundbreaking FF, I think that was left for 10. I think it was meant to be a display of what a good old fashioned RPG can be like, true swords and sorcery style with none of this modernised weaponry and such. It was meant to be a RPG which could show newcomers to the RPG world what the predecesors were like and how you can get a damn good game without pulling all the tricks as it were. All of this is speculation on my part but that's what I think.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and it's one I come back to again and again becuase the charecters are so heart warming, even Steiner, believe me his charecter does go somewhere. All I have to say is when Steiner is defending Alexandria with Beatrix in Disk 3 and there is the 'love letter' which unfortunatly dosn't go to the right recipient but brings two charecters closer together. Believe me in the begining of the game you want to chuck Stiener off a cliff and wish you could join in when Zidane kicks the guy in the Ice Valley but during Disk 3 you see a new side to the guy. Which shows that Squaresoft can take a charecter you want to kill and then turn them into one which you acutally warm to in the end.

And if you have read all this... well done.

Scas I have a emulater that can play FF4, 5 and 6 (or as the stupid usa put it 1, 2 and 3 ¬_¬ stupid people...)
so if you want just ask me or get it off Jibsy lol i think he has em too ^^;

Tenshi i agree with you ff9 was for those reasons its a great game just too easy but then again ffx was as well

Tenshi - November 29, 2004 05:03 PM (GMT)
This is purely speculation but I think FF9 was supposed to be too easy. As I said I think it was a game that was supposed to appeal to all gamers and if you had a traditional FF that was really hard then you would alienate the gamers who want a pick up and play RPG in a relatively short time. With FF9 you can spend weeks or months on it and still come away feeling that you got what you payed for.

The only charecter I would of liked to learn more about is Amarant. You have to watch all the ATE's (Active Time Events) to learn about his charecter and I would of prefered if they were mandatory since some of those are quite trickey to trigger. There are a couple of NPC's (non playable charecters) that I would've liked to learn more about. For instance the king of Alexandria, how did he die? What was his relationship with Garnet like? What kind of ruler was he? All of these questions could of been answered quickly and simple but wern't. If I was to have one major gripe about this game is that the storyline could of had a bit more substance to it. On the whole it's a pretty good storyline and leaves no loose ends as such. However there have been detailed neglected from the story which would of greatly added to story and made it more complusive.

Not to compare but the amazing thing about 7 and even 8 is that the storyline was piled on so that there was always a new twist or a new detail woven into the fabric of the story. In 7 and 8 we learn about the childhood's of some charecters but in 9 apart from Garnet briefly when we see Garnet (aged 5) talking to her old tutor. As I previously said the story is sound but if there was a little more put in and a bit more to sink your teeth into as it were, the storyline could of rivalled that of other FF's.

Maybe it was made easy for those reasons who knows but then why make ffx easy? LOL
Yea me no like easy games all that much coz i need a challenge i enjoyed ff9 even though it was easy but it would have been betta if the boss's were harder thats all ^^ you know make you lvl ur char's lol
I beat the game at lvl 40ish but in FFVII im lvl 80 and i still cant beat the 2 remaining weapons oO

Tenshi - November 29, 2004 09:08 PM (GMT)
I know, although saying that there were a couple of trickey bosses on FF9 I found one of the final bosses an absolute walk in the park and waltzed through most of the game.

I thought some aspects of FFX were hard in terms of how much training you needed to do to defeat the first dark aeon and believe me Dark Yojimbo is not easy... I think the hard parts of X were well hidden in that game.

But back to IX of course. I think it's important to train your charecters and thought that the gradient at which the bosses and even general enemys got harder was too gentle.
