Title: Megaman StarForce Beta Things
Description: Discoveries?
StarForce - February 9, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)

After seeing some RnR old trailers on YouTube, I compared and saw the differences between that beta version and the actual one.
Some actual screenshots are from EUR version set in Spanish, and the most are from USA version.
Well, let's start!

Looks like the road at Echo Ridge was different, and the windows at Gonta and Kizamaro’s houses were darker. Also, the dog house was a bit different too.

Crappy trees in beta version, no flowers and different fence. Places names and Transer icon didn’t appear in beta version.

Subaru’s living room was very different: the door leading to Subaru’s room, the TV, the photos and the colors of floor, carpet, table, etc.

Luna’s mugshot was a bit different. The walls of the school had other design.

Different Subaru’s mugshot, different fence design and color, different lamp post, no Transer icon. The text in japanese says something about Amachi giving Daigo’s Visualizer to Subaru. Also, that beta mugshot is used in Boktai DS:

No background in battles. Maybe that was in a test place like the one MMBN1 beta had? Also, CannonBase animation looks different, and the battlefield too.

Different Battle Card selection screen. And… was Gatling1 a Giga Card? Why its card color is red?

300 HP Ox Fire. I am too lazy to start again the game , but according to actual FAQs, Ox Fire has 400 HP.

RockBuster/MegaBuster card in RnR2. I used AR codes to obtain it.
Test Virus behavior: with the use of AR codes for random encounters, I made appear a Test Virus. When the battle starts, it said to be a Mettenna, but then it converts to Dragon Sky with 1HP. Normal Attacks don't affect it. Can be deleted with BlackHole, but only the HP number disappears, the battle doesn't finish. Also, it always transforms into DragonSky, no matter the game version.

When you set the value in the Random Encounter code to MegaMan, a Fire Leo SF MegaMan appears, the game says that is TaurusFire. He doesn't move, and only uses AntiSword randomly. When deleted, gives GrndWave card.

Video of TestVirus and Dummy Test MegaMan
here.
RnR2 Strange Cards: Riza, Taiyoujuu, Ankokuken, Toobe and Otofuriito (each one with its V2 and V3)

Some should be Boktai cards, but they don't function in battle, and don't have a card picture. I obtained them using AR codes
Dummy People:

Searching with an Hex Editor, I found People names (the one they use in transers. Example: Winde Chase, Stelar Hope, etc.). There are many "Dummy Dummy" people names, and there is data for Stelar Kelvin too, but he hasn't any message data. The dummy people has something like "Dummy..... Welcome" as their message, which it's even translated in EUR versions too.

More beta School, Roads and Subaru's mugshot.

Beta background with beta battle card selection screen.

Different Personal Status screen. Big Wave it's called "SHOP" in the beta version. Probably, even Ken Suther didn't exist at that point. The guy in the beta screenshot says something about Card Force.

Thanks Nemomon!

Beta US game screen shot. Brother cards were going to be called by last name. The screenshot at right is from actual version.

Beta Leo Blazer had a whirling ring of fire around it, but not in the final.
- That's all for now. If someone discovers other beta thing in MMSF/RnR, please tell me, and if it's true, I will add it here.

Master Django - February 10, 2008 12:01 PM (GMT)
Wow! That's nice! Maybe anyone will find the beta rom anywhere on the net. That would be cool.
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
Only CoJ (sry, Capcom Drk, Capcom....) have beta rom.
Master Django - February 10, 2008 12:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah... I think you are right. Damm Capcom!!!!
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Subaru - February 10, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
Capcom is OK... and if You want to make it beta like go ahead...it's not that hard...seriously...
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
Make beta and download beta are two different things :p
Subaru - February 10, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
but in the end can be the same if You know what beta should have
StarForce - February 10, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
Added the new scans =P
I would like to know if some beta data is hidden in the actual rom, but I don't have any idea of how to search for it, as I know, there are not many tools for NDS roms to do that.
Subaru - February 10, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
it won't be here but if You believe I will check it maybe I am wrong :p :p :p
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Well, check RnR2 for leftovers :p :p :p

Woah! This is amazing! This is the kind of professional article that is only found at the Mechanical Maniacs! Are you sure you're not one of them?
Anyways, I got some of my own.

The beta shots suggested you can cycle through all the SF forms in one battle. Like in that picture with Dragon form and a Leo SF card.
Subaru - February 10, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Oh my... that beta Atomic Blazer looks like full potential of fire ]:-> I guess I will use something like this if I will find some good RPG forum yeahoo!!!
OK I will check the ROM for beta things...
mega rock.exe - February 10, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
Woah! You can do that? You know, I remember on Wikipedia, someone claimed they found company logos in it, like Chevron.
Out of text, it is clear that the 6 versions of bosses are leftover. I never got to sprite hack the game, so there goes the chances of finding unused frames/palettes.
Oh! There are unused fonts! See Sprites INC. There are smiley-looking characters, fonts for the admins and other symbols!
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 09:09 PM (GMT)
Post a link for that. Anyway, i have small program (and You too) for exporting files from rom but they're in stupid format and i can't open them. If it really export something important....

No, I'm not from Mechanical Maniacs =P
Thanks for your beta screenshots, mega rock. I've added those to the main thread.
And here is other discovery:
TestVirus and MegaBuster card exist in MMSF and RnR2 too. In EUR versions, TestVirus name is translated!
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 10:34 PM (GMT)
How much HP TestVirii have? 4k too?
mega rock.exe - February 10, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Oh, I knew that for when I was looking in the text for Ciphers. Test Virus doesn't work as it used to though. Now how would I open the files extracted with NDS Top System?
StarForce - February 10, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
@Nemo:I don't know. I saw its name using a hex editor, soon I will post a screenshot of the Hex Editor window.
mega rock.exe - February 10, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
I fought it before. It can't be hit by normal attacks and has enough HP to be deleted by a Black Hole.

I dunno. You're more experienced in hacking than me, so I ask You, how to open them?

Seems, once i fought against him too by using Random Encounter codes.
StarForce - February 10, 2008 10:49 PM (GMT)
Strange... I used this code posted in a thread somewhere in Hacking Notes:
92103524 00000001
121ACD5A 0000????
D2000000 00000000
Replaced the ?s with 0000, which is supposedly TestVirus address, and when the battle started (at the moment to select battle cards), it said to be a Mettena, but then it changed to a DragonSky with 1HP, but normal attacks didn't affect it.
mega rock.exe - February 10, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
So it's irregular. I only fought it with the old version of No$GBA, so I didn't see anything. It seem to support my theory that it is a vessel in which battle data is exported considering it turned into Dragon Sky. So they code the attacks on the TestVirus, then move it to its proper location. More like Test Tube.
Oh, and I already tried PowerISO to open the files, but I don't have any other programs that can open it. Has someone made one already?
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, .bin is very popular format but how exactly those files can be opened or something i dunno. Maybe Spikeman may post something more but he's here once for a year...
Master Django - February 10, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
LOL. You have a pic or something else of that Star Force?
StarForce - February 10, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Are you talking about an BIN CD Image?
A program called Daemon Tools can mount ISO, BIN and other types of CD/DVD images...
@MD: I will take a screenshot of that soon =P

Nope, about .bin from RnR rom.
Master Django - February 10, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
For what do you want to convert ISO's in DVD format things?
@ SF: This would be funny. I could try to input cheat on M3 and making a video of it while turning from mettana to Dragon Sky xD
Nemomon - February 10, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
And i forgot .sdat format. Anyway, offset addresses may be helpful.
