Title: SSBB tips and advice
Silvermane16 - May 15, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
At my school currently, me and some of my friends of mine play brawl at lunch at we are all incredibly good players. SOme characters though just tick me off due to some spammage or how annoying some are. So I decided that for one, I thought it would be nice to give tips to people who play brawl but want to get better and to get some help on how to kill characters that can take 2 of your lives to kill(assuming you play stock match). SO anybody feel free to post anything you know about characters such as kill strategies, tips, and what not to do. SO far I have listed these that i find fight everyday or remember what they do. ALso characters I use are Wario and Marth.(people who say these guys suck can go get rammed by a Bullet Train!)
5 Top things you need to know how to do to play expertly.(in my opinion)
Aeriel Dodge:doging in air to avoid smash attacks while falling or to doge against some final smashes.
Roll: to avoid final smashes, attacks,traps... and strike the enemy after getting behind them
Side step: avoid some final smashes. dodge projectiles or single hits.
recovering: surviving
smash moves: to kill the enemy
3 things you need to know about the character you are using.
How they kill
How they get killed
How long it takes to get killed or to kill others
3 things you need to know about the stage you fight on
Dangers
Changes
STyle of fighting to use
Remember that these are not 100% sure that it will make you better at brawl.
Final smashes. When to use them and how to avoid them.(no descriptions of how it works or how it looks like)
Pit=Palutena's Army: You can use this pretty much right when you get it unless opponent is almost dead or is dying(flying off screen). Summons little flying things that do kamikaze attacks on you.(swarms you easily leading to massive damage and/or kill). Not much you can do to not get hit unless you are; marth:counter or side roll, kirby:down B or side roll/step; someone who can run like crazy:cant really explain it any more than I can for this one.
Wario=Warioman: THis is truely the final smash that can get everyone ticked off.(I can kill atleast one person with this smash. 2 if in 4 player free for all). Basicly turns you into a war machine that has double power and speed. Also midair moves besides the down Air make you float if repeatedly used. SMash attacks are also killer due to the fact side smash is a long run tackle now. B moves are upgraded too but Never use motorcycle if you haven't mastered how to handle it or you have fast reactions! USe anytime you want. Pretty hard to avoid since it is like fighting a normal computer except with powered up moves with invincibility.
Ike=Great Aether: a devastating move that is a major threat. Get hit and if you have over 30% damage as a normal weight character and you will be launched. Has a great hit range. Use when enemies are falling or just attacked. Either Side roll, sidestep, or counter for this one guys. Otherwise, pray to god you survive.
Pokemon Trainer=Triple finish: never really had to go up against pokemon traner but I learned from videos that you want to hit them when they are on the ground. This sadly only hits ground level enemies(does hit other people but they can fly out). Use when enemy is on ground and is not behind you. TO avoid this, my suggestion is to get in the air as soon as they use it since it only racks up damage if you are in the air.
Diddy Kong=Rocketbarrel Barrage: god I hate this final. It is hard to use and incredibly annoying to go up against. He flies around like a drunk helicopter and shoots peanuts at you that have explosions. Can really help you if you get and are falling so use this anytime. Make sure he doesn't tackle you and dodge when he shoots and you will be fine.
Metaknight=Galaxia Darkness: god I hate this move.... If someone gets hit with the cape that he throws out then everyone gets hit(even teammates!!!) Try and hit people with it to get it to work cause if it hits, he slashes everyone. To avoid the cape, side roll! TO avoid the slashy if the cape hit someone else, go hang of a ledge.
Snake=Grenade Launcher: Whoever made this can go shoot themselves... God this gets so annoying it is not even funny. IT lasts for along time and has good hit rate. Use whenever. TO dodge this, side roll like crazy.....
Lucas=PK starstorm: This can be a pain in the rear for some people.... THis is easy to dodge at first but then the stars falling crowd up together making it impossible to dodge. Use whenever. Good luck side rolling....
Sonic=Super Sonic: Very hard to use but kills. Try and controll your turns and don't go over the edge. Can be used anytime. Side roll the direction he is coming from or counter.
King De De De=Waddle Dee army: really annoying. I havent found any way to dodge this so good luck guys.
Mr. Game and Watch=octopus: Just don't get near him and all and you will be fine for a moment/
Bowser=Giga Bowser: Avoid him since hitting him is pointless. He doesn't flinch at all. Damage is dealth to him still though. Try and get him to die in GIga bowser with a stupid mistake like down B over the edge.
Ice Climbers=Iceburg(or however it is spelled): Just plain annoying. Almost no way to avoid it. Used anytime.

Characters, pros and cons
Ike: Pros: Very good damage. Can KO enemies at low percentages. Fast for a heavyweight character.
Cons: Really slow. Moves have major lag time.
Marth: Pros: Fast. Can execute fast combos.
Cons: Doesn't deal good damage unless tipping. Easy to knock around.
Wario: Pros: Moves have fast execution, have good knockback, has a pretty good recovery with warior Bike.
COns: Lag time for moves. Has very short range
Lucario: Pros: can knockback pretty far. Good Recovery
Cons: Light weight and attacks can suck in the begining of the match
Character Tips
Lucario:
Exceeding Light: Aura Storm
Before use, make sure you have ~60% damage or if you're about to die. Lucario will launch straight up into the air, and launch a beam that can be controlled. If you get caught in this, you're dead onless you and/or lucario have really low percentages. To dodge, sidestep repeatedly. If you're in the air, pray to god for a lucky airdodge.
How to use Characters
Wario: Be unexpected. Fool your opponent and use the bike to your advantage. Recovery via bike against corkscrew.

wow this is great tips and advice and heads up :D
mega rock.exe - May 15, 2008 04:30 AM (GMT)
Ah, that's useful. I have some tips of my own, too.
Bassxx - May 15, 2008 11:18 AM (GMT)
They sound very useful, i'll have to try them one day.
Sanderino - May 15, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Those are really, really usefull :)
I think I'm reading them over if I have Brawl myself.
(In Europe it comes 27 June and that sucks) :(
Silvermane16 - May 15, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
Remember the fact that
1. Never give your opponent an opportunity to kill you
2. Always go for the smash ball
Happy brawling until next update =P
Exceeding Light - May 15, 2008 11:56 PM (GMT)
Info from someone who mains lucario
Lucario: Aura Storm
Before use, make sure you have ~60% damage or if you're about to die. Lucario will launch straight up into the air, and launch a beam that can be controlled. If you get caught in this, you're dead onless you and/or lucario have really low percentages. To dodge, sidestep repeatedly. If you're in the air, pray to god for a lucky airdodge.
Some techniques: If an opponent is right in front of you, roll behind them and use an extremely fast attack (like Lucario's Force Palm (>B) or Ike's >B - If you're playing as Fox/Falco, use your A). Sometimes, smashes work on people who've never had it done to them, but don't charge. Don't use this too often or they will catch on.
Silvermane16 - May 16, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Air dodges don't work against Lucario's final smash. Try and jump over him when he uses and you can be safe. Also with Ike, time his aether correctly right when it about to hit you and you will be invincible from the blast and will dive down after the move is over.
Ike's smash is too slow for me so I use the normal A combo or quick draw

Jumping over Lucario doesn't make you safe. A skilled Lucario player can hit you once you come back down. The only five that can even manage to jump over lucario (good gliding aside), are Jigglypuff, Kirby, Sonic, ROB, and Pit. If you can glide well, then MK and charizard. that's ONLY 7/35 (1/5th) of the total characters.
IMO, the best counterpick to lucario is Sonic or Pit. Sonic can out speed lucario, and pit can recover from lucario's attacks better plus with Pit's VB...
Silvermane16 - May 16, 2008 01:37 AM (GMT)
THe trick is with Lucario is to attack him and not give him an openning. He's only dangerous when he lands a hit when he has high damage. Also on some fields you can jump over lucario easily when he uses his final smash.
Exceeding Light - May 16, 2008 02:56 AM (GMT)
That's why I picked sonic as a counterpick. The problem is, if you don't give them an opening, they will just counter.
As for the stage thing, you wouldn't be thinking of New Pork City, now would you?
A smart lucario player will start going more defensive at high %. A full on berzerk doesn't work on a defensive lucario.
Besides, Lucario has fast airials. Dair is possibly one of Lucario's best moves. Very little startup lag, little ending lag, spikes through shields, stops you in mid air.
Lucario has what's called a 'disjointed hitbox' meaning that the attack doesn't only come from his limbs (or weapons in some other character's place), but it also comes from his Aura surrounding his hands and feet.
Regardless of moves used, a really good lucario player can juggle you using a combonation of Utilt and Uair.
Glossarry:
Uxxx: Up and xxx
Nxxx: Neutral and xxx
Sxxx: Side and xxx
Dxxx: Down and xxx
Shield spiker: One or more hits ignores the shield (in this case, the second kick if the first connects)
Counter: Marth/Ike/Lucario's VB
Juggle: Keep you in the air without you being able to move. It's also a synonym for combo, but not all combos are juggles.
Silvermane16 - May 16, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
The thing is, it is really easy to get out of those combos. Air dodge or counter. Heck Kirby's down B works too. Juggling isnt really a good technique in this game due to the fact that you dont stay flinched for long enough. And what does the xxx mean?
Exceeding Light - May 16, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
replace xxx with the move type. EX: Tilt, air, etc.
Anyway, yes, juggling is easy to get out of but against a lot of people (at least where I live), juggling is an effective tactic. You're more likely to run into someone who sucks than someone who's good, at least on wifi.
Silvermane16 - May 16, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
WIth my group of people it is kill or be killed. Juggling isnt effective due to everyone knowing how to aeriel dodge, counter, etc.
So basicly everyone in your area isn't good? Also, how do you play matches?
Exceeding Light - May 16, 2008 03:34 AM (GMT)
MOST of the time, 2:00 timed, but I've been requesting five stock, no time limit.
And all but one person isn't very good, and he doesn't play anymore. Besides, he could whoop my -censored- in less than a minute.
I usually practice on level 9 CPUs even though they are nothing like human players.
Silvermane16 - May 16, 2008 04:06 AM (GMT)
We usually play 3or4 stock matches with no items except medium smash ball. You're better off training against real people but Wi-FI doesn't really fit that need.
Or try doing all star on intense. It gives a good challenge.
Shadowblade - July 9, 2008 01:52 PM (GMT)
The stage studio isn't so good

I personally think the smash ball should be off itself. Your better off finding real people to play with because playing computers at intense just get too easy.
Exceeding Light - July 9, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
I do:
3 stock, 3 mins
Random Stage
4 Players
the items are rather variable since it gets boring fast.
Silvermane16 - July 11, 2008 04:50 AM (GMT)
Updated more on FInal smashes.
IMO smash ball gives everyone an advantage making it fair. ANd some characters suck without it.
1337Danny_X - July 31, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
snakes easy wavedash tech.
to do this is you have to hit your target with snake dash A button and while you do that tap the c stick up fast as you can and you will see snake slide across the stage
matt1094 - July 31, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
silvermane16 snakes final smash is easy to dodge all you do is keep moving and dont go to the same spot as before to fast because of explosions
Silvermane16 - July 31, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
Trust me, when the person has good aim it won't work.
gbahole1 - July 31, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Ike is too cheap...IMO melee was more well rounded...the most cheap character to me was mewtwo but thats it.

Ike's throws aren't as powerful as his smash attacks. Eruption (Neutral B) and Aether (Up + B) both give you invincible frames. That cheap enough. Another cheap person added in the game is Pit. All these loser do with pit is either fly around the stage or spamming his side + b move. It gets annoying. Also his Mirror Shield (Down + B) I find broken as well.
Richigo - August 1, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
i think the same about pit, and im kinda agree with that about ike (i prefear marth, faster, but a kinda gay looking)
i think another cheaper character its pikachu, some people online and a lot of Noobs spam a lot the Pikachus Thunder (Down+B) as their strategy (just always remeber, the spammer will never win to the experience) or the Mr game and watch, with the Righ+b if isnt a problem when its a number lower than 7
(also his look its so.. .. .. .. .. well. i dont like it)
blazedout - August 1, 2008 02:29 AM (GMT)
Oh god. Spamchu. If you want to see how badly he get spammed, watch this vid I uploaded somewhere else.
http://files.filefront.com/pikaspamwmv/;11...;/fileinfo.htmlThe only moves mainly used is Skull Bash and Thunder.
Silvermane16 - August 1, 2008 07:39 AM (GMT)
Wait till you see Link players >_<
Ike is powerful but is slow and that destroys almost everything.
I have a friend who plays pikachu and all he does is thunder, over and over and over again. Now what is really annoying is Metaknight. it is either mach tornado, A, or up air A.
Chimeran - August 1, 2008 09:42 AM (GMT)
I need help to beat my friend. He's the one who actually owns the game (I don't have a Wii) and he is awesome at it, but I have to beat him to REALLY p**s him off. He normally plays as either Kirby, Lucario or Sonic, and I've recently discoverd the awesomeness that is Meta-knight. We always play with Gamecube controllers, except for when his sister plays aswell, when normally I take he Wii-mote (I can actually use it). We have no CPU characters. I've nearly beat him twice, but I always mess up some how (e.g. the Super Mario stage, I accidently walked off the edge twice).
Silvermane16 - August 1, 2008 05:45 PM (GMT)
Try playing on Final destination or battlefield. If you are playing as Metaknight try and do hit and run attacks. If he is playing as sonic then don't hit and run. Try and overpower him since sonic is weak. If he is lucario then don't give him an opening. IF lucario can get a hit then he is good but if he can't then he is completely useless. If he is kirby then I don't know since I don't fight alot of people who play as kirby.
Richigo - August 2, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
if he is Kirby, try the running attacks, just try to avoid the Hammer, and the Copy, it coul be aa big bother, if he flyes to High he will turn into a rock, so when he fell to the stage quick get near him and Grab him (kirby cant get hitted by melee hits when he is in rock state, but a greb turns to the original kirby form) if you get him throw him down
and use Up+b to complement a little the throw
Silvermane16 - August 3, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
Hammer isn't a problem. Neither is the copy. The thing you have to worry about is the smash attacks. Executed quickly, good range, and have good knock back.
Richigo - August 3, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
actually i know that, but i dont know if our comerade Chimeran know that, and you are righ, kirby smashes are quick excecuted, (the hammer is a bother for people who doesnt own the game, sometimes[pd: in this comment i dont want ofend you chimeran, all i want its help, like the others :Pleased: ])
Nuirako - August 4, 2008 08:03 AM (GMT)
When they do hammer in the air with kirby it kinda is dangerous for people new at it because he does 2 hits instead of the ground one which does 1 hit.
Silvermane you have Wifi? I'm good player, but frankly i haven't had a good challenge in some time cuz people around here dont have the game or a wii.
I went to the BFC thread but it has only like 5 or 6 posts and only like 3 friend 4 codes posted. So could you post your brawl fc or pm it. It would be much appreciated.
Silvermane16 - August 4, 2008 08:18 AM (GMT)
Sadly I don't even own a Wii
I play when I get the chance but I haven't played in awhile so I might be rusty ^_^;
Also the hammer in midair is easy to avoid sadly. It doesn't have that great range or knock back. New people should try and beat level 9's before they think that they are good IMO. Beating level 9's aren't that hard of a task in this game,
Exceeding Light - August 4, 2008 08:43 AM (GMT)
Or playing a perfect match against an AI of any level.
I recently accomplished that as Luigi against a level 3. I'm not very good so I was really exited, but I accidentally forgot to save a replay.
Richigo - August 4, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
XD yeah you are right, but it was a tip for Chimeran, he wanted to beat his friend, so, Does someone need help with something???
Silvermane16 - August 6, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
Word to the wise. Spike any chance you get because it can change the game completely.
Dark Boy - August 6, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Words for the unwise from the wise.
If your enemy is a boss, or you are playing boss battles, attempt to attack the enemy from afar. Close attacks leave you open for a few seconds after, so just try to use attacks from farther away.
