Title: 2 suggestions
Travis - December 1, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
I have two suggestions:
1. Ability to edit/delete your own messages on the CB. Sometimes you accidently hit enter before you are done typing, or you say something stupid/ fail to convey the point you are trying to make. It would be nice if it was possible to delete your own messages.
2. Have the game use your time zone.
Cargo changes would still happen at midnight Central time, but it would allow people to put what time zone they live in, and messages such as when a CB radio message was left, or when cargo is due would be accurate for the time zone you live in.

I like both ideas, well the 2nd one less because it is my time zone for now, but i think you should be able to delete messages on the CB for sure, because lots of times you see someone spell something wrong and then they double post, and there isnt really a lot of room to look back in time on the CB, so if a Delete button could be integrated that would be cool

Maybe you could delete them within the first minute, but it would open much abuse to be able to freely delete your own posts at any time.

i like the idea of the first minute, altho i cant say i havent gone back a half hour later or an hour and noticed my post was wrong, but a minute would help me immensely, i dunno about everyone else

The time zone isnt going to change...it has been suggested many times, and every thread gets the same answer...its not going to change.
KillerKoel - December 1, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
but Jeff you have to admit that the CB deleting thing would be cool, ive seen you correct yourself on it

I would hate for the timezone to change....since i am rite in the timezone everything is rite on time here :D i'm in wisconsin so i love the timezone its in rite now and would hate if it changed lol

i think it would mess people up, because anyone who has been playing for a while has most likely gotten used to the time zones how they are... it would make contract bidding really awkward bidding if game time was fluid, because it would still be midnight my time, but for everyone else not in my time zone bidding wouldnt have the game clock say midnight, well 11:55 but ya know what i mean
Travis - December 1, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
Im not suggesing the time zones physically change, just that the correct time is displayed for everybody.
If you live in the central time zone, nothing would change. If you live in the eastern time zone, times would just be displayed correctly for you. If a delivery is due at midnight CST, it would list the due date (for somebody in the eastern time zone) as 1am. Somebody in the mountain time zone would see that load being due at 11pm. Nothing would actually change, just the times displayed
I would assume 90% of people who play this game dont live in the Central Time Zone.
Contract bidding would still end at midnight CST, you would just have to know what time it ends locally, which all contract managers already know. A contract manager in California already knows the contract bidding ends at 10pm local time, the only difference would be the game clock would say 10pm instead of midnight. I dont think this would be any more confusing for the few contract managers, yet it should help out all drivers, especially the new ones.

but travis what about contracts? how will the people bidding know what time it closes if each time zone displays its own time? where as it closes at midnight my time, it would be say 5 am for someone else... but how would they know that when the thing at the top of the company contracts says bidding closes at 11:55 whatever whatever whatever

I have to say that as a player in Europe I like this idea. I'd like to be able to glance at the CB timestamps and see it as the current time instead of having to think of it as my time - minus 6 (its not exactly the most taxing calculation, but no harm in making things easier).
Nothing in game would need to change, contract bidding could still conclude at 23:55 CST (5:55 GMT+0) and route deadlines would still be the same, except given in local time. This would also be an optional feature, with CST being the default time zone - being toggled on the edit driver page. Nobody would be forced to use their local timezone ;)
We do have an awful lot of International players playing Trukz. Why should we have to use the CST timezone?

This could easily be adjusted by the same changes. There is nothing stopping the contracts displaying the close time for the local timezone (IE: 5:55 GMT+0 as I stated above). If anything it'd be a lot easier for new and international players to use the system.... it's not all that obvious to start with that the game uses CST.

ok i like the toggle thing in edit driver, and i guess if everything else can be edited to the time zones the thing in the contract page could change with that so instead of 11:55 PM it would say 3:55 AM or whatever

Mmmhmm, exactly KillerKoel. It'd take a little work from Omac, but they should not have to make too many code edits it should be fairly simple to do. And there is nothing saying they have to do it for tomorrow - it's a suggestion not a critical bug fix. Somewhere down the timeline would be nice though :)
MrFitz - December 2, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
just out of wondering... what timezone is this game in?
Thanks

Central time zone, in the US.
KillerKoel - December 2, 2008 06:30 AM (GMT)
Also Central in Canada, including Saskatchewan at the moment until the time change

Hi
Time zone is important and MUST be displayed in a way a user want. It doesn't affect the game in anyway and it is simple. The only thing needed is just one more editable field in driver's profile, that's all. And it is only a choice for the user, if you think that you don't like it keep the default. But it doesn't affect the game in any way and i really cannot find a reason why it hasnt been done yet.
As travis said: Nothing would actually change, just the times displayed.
KillerKoel - December 2, 2008 06:53 AM (GMT)
just because you feel it "must" be added does not mean the developers feel the same way, or have the time to do it
deuced - December 2, 2008 07:14 AM (GMT)
You are right about this. It' s been suggested many times but i cannot find a reason not to implement this feature, other than (developer's) time.
