Title: Looking for an artist.
Description: Looking for an artist to comission.

Mac Womack - December 1, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
I'm currently looking for an artist (or artists) to commission to do some custom artwork for me, with a couple projects I am working on. I have some rather specific needs for the various projects as detailed below. I've got some artists from elsewhere that I am talking to, but ideally as two of the commissions are (vaguely) Trukz related I'd like to keep it in the family & spread the wealth amongst us players ;)

There is basically two types of artwork I need to have done. Both are illustrations and should ideally be available as a vector, but I might be willing to consider high resolution raster images.

One style of artwork needs to be very cute and cuddly (heh!) and is specifically going to involve drawing a mouse character and a (separate) monkey character doing various activities.

The other style of artwork required is technical "icon-like" images. Trucks, Wrenches, Fuel pumps and so on.

If you are interested then please feel free to private message me or reply to this topic :)

My imagination is running wild trying to think what in the world you are working on. A mouse and a monkey with trucks and fuel pumps...

lol now that you mention it, that is interesting :P

Heh heh heh . Yes it does sound rather strange.

The fuel pumps, truks etc..? Well they are a surprise for the moment ;). The mouse, he's for my forum avatar (If you hang around in CB19 you should know the story). The monkey is for my non-trukz related personal blog - I've been meaning to update that for a while now.

If I can't find an artist in the trukz community willing to do a commission, then as I have said I have a few other possible options pencilled in. I'm not in a big rush to get any of the artwork done though, so quite happy to wait a while and see if anyone is willing to show off their skills :)

If only I had the money to go buy the Adobe suite. I have worked with vector graphics before, but I haven't done anything impressive with them. If I had the software available to me, I'd be more than happy to help, but I don't, sorry.

You could possibly give Inkscape a try. It's basically open source Illustrator (in the same way GIMP is like Photoshop). Much like GIMP, its interface is not quite a polished as the Adobe products - and it can be a pain if you're used to certain tools being in certain places - but they are both very powerful applications.

As I said before I'm not in a major rush, so have a play with Inkscape when you get some free time and see if you feel like using it. I'm not looking for ultra complicated tshirt designs or anything.

With regards to the fuel pumps etc, simple icons such as these are all I require. Oh and if anyone is wondering, the reason I am looking to commission someone and not using stock vectors is that my icon needs cross a number of boundaries and it's near impossible to find matching sets. Even if I did I'd probably have to buy 10+ different sets at roughly $14 per set at normal prices. Ouch!

Oh and as another note, I'm perfectly fine with the commissioned artwork not being an exclusive licence. After the commissioned artist had produced the vectors for me, they would be more then welcome to sell them on sites such as istockphoto and ShutterStock.

Scott DeWitt of Fanboys is taking commissions for artwork, so I'm sure you can get him to do something lol.

Mmm not really the kind of artstyle I am looking for, plus he is not a player (is he?). I've no problems finding artists to do the work, I'd just rather use someone from Trukz if possible - considering two of the projects are Trukz related.

Thanks for the suggestion though N. Reeki. I enjoyed reading some of the strips :D

Honestly, no idea if he plays Trukz or not, though I'm not even sure he's heard of it lol.
