Title: STOCK MARKET IDEA (REALISTIC) PLEASE READ!
Btwanky - December 7, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
Although the old stock market system was very unrealistic and had many flaws.. i believe we can still have a stock market system, which would be based on the real life system. In order for a company to become a "public" company. They must issue a IPO (Initial Public Offering)... In the case of trukz, every company should be able to decide how many shares they want to issue.. say a mimumium of 1,000 shares and a max of 10,000 shares. (the less amount of shares issued the higher the initial price of the shares) so say (1,000 shares released @ 10$ a piece= 10,000$ sale... and say 10,000 shares released @ 4$ a share= 40,000$ sale)and the more shares issued the cheaper the stock... so either way a company can get tens of thousands of dollars right away. now in order to make it fair. the company should not be able to sell anymore shares.. and the only way shares go up or down in based on the performance of the company... in order to buy shares you must buy them from someone who is already selling them...
The only thing I am concerned about is the part on how the stock price is determined... I personally think it should be based off demand for the stock... (considering the more members a company has... the more people that would want to buy that stock...) and it should be based on how much someone is willing to pay for the share(s) they are buying... I think if you base it off of the same formula's from the old stock market, it will be the same problems.. and as soon as a company buys a company item.. such as a terminal, or some sort of discount... it will be losing company money, which would make the same problems the old system's stock market had... which would make the stocks plummet... but in reality... the company has a possible net worth of hundreds and thousands of dollars.
So a formula such as:
Company Money x # of terminals + (# of company items ((say all 4))*50,000$) / number of shares of stock
Ex:
500,000$ x 8 terminals+ 200,000$ (company items) / 10,000 shares = 420$ per share
I also like the idea of dividends... it would be cool to be able to give like a set percentage every month. (BUT... I think there should be a option of how much the dividend is.. or to even have one).
formula simply as a percentage
Ex:
price share x interest rate
400$ per share x 05%= 20$
IF ANY OF THIS DOESN"T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW... AND ILL TRY TO EXPLAIN IT BETTER

Please tell me, if you will, what benefit this will have to a company after the initial infusion of cash? I was barely here for the old system, but as has been explained to me, one could invest further into a company, thus benefiting the company. If it ends up being merely another way for the drivers to make money, then it is useless. I make more money than I need now.

Not the easiest to understand all of it, but I really like the idea of stocks, I started too late to have seen them the first time around but... I wouldn't mind having shares in my company so when we make tons of cash ill make more, and can then put it back into the company :)

Companies don't issue infinite amounts of shares in real life, so they shouldn't in truckz either. Likewise a company isn't forced to cash out when a shareholder wants out like the old truckz system.
No share system like now is far better than the totally unrealistic old system.

Theres a great mock stock game called THOT's i think we can benefit by looking at it...
this equation seems to make the most sense on how
Company Money x # of terminals + (# of company items ((say all 4))*50,000$) / number of shares of stock
Ex:
500,000$ x 8 terminals+ 200,000$ (company items) / 10,000 shares = 420$ per share
that would determine the current price...
someone choose to buy it at then... and wait say a month.. when the company grows bigger people make more money (assuming you got a demand for that stock)

I also thing this will be a good alternative to the wage system. It would be nice to be able to offer company drivers stock options, so that they get a share of the dividends at the turn of the month (or week) for their hard work. The more the haul, the better the company does & the higher the dividends.
I'm not sure if this would ever be implemented however, it would be very hard to balance such a system - and there would be lots of possible exploits added to the game. In real life we have laws put in place to try and make the stock market run smoothly (because stuff like insider trading *never* happens) but its much harder to come up with a scary punishment in game. Don't get me wrong, I would *really* love to see this in game. However games like Eve Online don't even have a fully fledged stockmarket system with public trading - and I assume they have more money then omac to throw at stuff like this. I know they certainly have more full time developers.

well.. under my idea.. the only way a person would really lose money.. if the company starts losing money.. which in real life... is true.. if a company doesnt preform, price of the stock goes down

Again, all I see is a way for drivers to make even more money, and the company can create a one-time-only infusion of cash. Neither of which is anything I would be interested in. Am I missing something?

Stock markets are pointless in real life as they have lost their original function of providing companies with extra liquidity.
We dont have to adapt something into the game that we already have enough problems with in the real world.

no but its a way to get smaller companies up and running much faster.. thats what the whole stock market originally did...
Truckin Thunder - December 9, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
Also, this doesn't benefit the companies that are already very large with 20 terminals
