Title: Fuel and MPG
Trunny - December 8, 2008 05:09 AM (GMT)
If I have ~4 gallons of fuel left ( it came out to 2% of 240 gallons equals 4.8 gallons), get ~8 MPG (my driver page says 7.73 MPG), and only have 10 miles left to go in a route, why do I have to refuel before I can go any further? 4 * 8 = 32 (4.8 * 7.73 = 37.104). I could have gone about 32 (37.104) miles before running out of gas.
It particularly upset me that in the 10 miles left in my route, I would have been at my company's headquarters and got 25% of my fuel cost and wouldn't have wasted a fatigue point.

The game is intentionally coded to if you have less than 5 gallons of fuel, it forces you refuel. No matter how much distance is left in route.

You have to have enough to run that leg at the posted speed. Reducing the distance doesnt change anything.

It is not 5 gallons, as twice I have had to re-fuel at 7 gallons. Both times I would have easily made it. It could be that you must have the fuel to run at the posted speed. Personally, I think that is total BS. How can you plan?

so if you know you're coming to that, run your 'short' leg on the second to last leg instead of the last one

The problem there is that u still dont know what that last speed limit will be. U could end up creating a new problem. Im not sure there is any way around it

55, seems like the last speed limit is always 55. unless you have <60 to go :D
good point though, once again

Keep in mind also that on that last leg if you have less miles to go than the speed limit, if you reduce that speed down to only the miles left, you WILL save a little fuel. You will only use the fuel needed. I have tested this to be sure and it does work. Might save you just the fuel you need to get through your next route without refueling.
