Title: Make A Multimedia Keyboard Out Of A Cheap One
Description: add ultimedia keys with Winamp

This is a tutorial for music-lovers that stick with their old $5-keyboards but would love to have some more functionality :)

I made it up some years ago :)

So you will need Winamp again. My point is to transform the Numpad keys, which are not used that often, into some more multimedia-like keys.

The idea is to use it as navigation, let's say Right Arrow or 6 is next track, Left arrow or 4 is previous track, and 2&8 is volume Up/Down. Pretty cool :)
  • Open Winamp and go to Preferences (Ctrl+P) -> Global hotkeys.
  • Check Enabled. I would delete all default setting.
  • Select functions one by one. Select an action, then they key combination and then, Add. I prefer using Ctrl+Shift before pressing the Num keys, because I am sure that no other program would use the same combination.

  • Press OK/Close and it should work for fast track navigation and volume control. I also used a combination to pop up the Jump To box, so I can do it quickly without looking for Winamp.
ENJOY!
