The Kitchens A series of large rooms, rather like cellars, with high ceilings and lights hanging from them, house elves run this kitchen with punctuality and ease. There are a large amount of tables in one room, where the food is kept before being sent up to the tables in the Dining Hall. Another room is solely for preparation of food and yet another is used as the pantry. The house elf manager, Nyan, has small quarters down here, and he's rarely seen in the rest of the castle.

Ira Beaumont's Office For the sake of convenience, Ira's office is located in the dungeons of Wolfshaw. Despite being underground, it has large, tall windows, with a spell on them so that it seems the office is on the ground level, the glass showing an image of the outdoors. It is rather plain; just an office, really, with few personal belongings. The sleeping quarters – which hold no such illusions of the daytime - can be reached by a door at the back of the classroom, cleverly hidden by a tapestry that depicts the story of a battle wizards and centaurs.

Foyer The foyer is not as large as would be imagined: a long but relatively thin room, its high ceilings impress. The floors are polished oak floorboards, with matching walls. The main staircase climbs up from this room and four hourglasses - one for each house - are set into one wall, displaying the house points.

James Robinson's Office The square office is undoubtedly James’; the oak desk can barely be seen under piles of paper, with only a tiny bit of room for him to actually work. There are medium-sized bookshelves lining the walls; not only are they filled with books, the books also stack on top and on the ground. There is parchment everywhere; not even James knows what most of it is for. Cabinets and cupboards hold vials and potions and instruments that no one else seems to know the purpose of. His living quarters are more personalised, but students never see this, obviously.

Drama Room Also called the Black Room, after its walls and ceiling. In an effort to make the room seem as dark as possible, everything in there was constructed black – that changed, however, so only the walls and ceilings remain. At appropriate times, the teacher darkens the room. There are no desks, just chairs, as well as a stage at one end.

Tim Slater's Office Tim Slater's office is rather clean, especially considering he hasn't had time to get it nice and well-used yet. The bookshelves are heavily laden with books on Charms from all over the world, and the desk is usually - neatly - covered in essays to mark and class plans to work on. Its walls are usually charmed to be a pleasant cream colour with red accenting, and a door in the back lead to his quarters.

Gallery The main attraction in this room is the large tapestry depicting the four founding friends, standing together. The other portraits and paintings in the corridor-like room will gladly tell you everything there is to know about them – seeing as a few paintings knew the friends. Others will swing forward in time of great peril and admit students to the chambers behind them.

Spare Classroom Used as Headquarters for the student-led Resistance the previous year, this spare classroom has only a few signs of its noble history. The tables have been cleared back to the sides of the room, chairs stacked neatly and their equipment - books, food stores, shelves of potions and iron instruments - returned to their original places. In fact, the only visible signs it was used as a safe-haven for the students is several scorch marks on the walls and floors.

Kerry Greene's Office Kerry Greene's office is colourful, and she's taken little time to customise it to her own designs. A large mirror with runes on the frame, the twin of the one in her classroom, sits on one wall; prints with a distinct Norse mythology theme cover the walls. A framed picture on her desk shows her husband, daughter and step-son, and books (some written entirely in Runic) fill the shelves.

Nasken Common Room The ceiling of this round room is painted like an almost-clear sky, with the hints of the sun, as though it's trying to peek over the edge of the wall. There are no candles near the ceiling; they all hang around the walls, so they don’t obstruct the view. The room is airy, thanks to its many large windows, and has many comfy chairs and a few tables. It's found behind a statue of Marge the Magnificent, who will only move when you say the password accompanied by "please".

Astier Common Room Possibly the most feminine of all the common rooms, everything is dark purple and white – though, admittedly, the white does not extend to the furniture, which is comfy and stylish. A beautifully serene painting of mournful Rose holding a ball of light admits those worthy into the common room. She has a temper, though, and is not to be reckoned with.

Principal's Office A square room that isn't overly-large, the principal's office is made up of warm wood and rich materials. One whole wall contains wall-to-floor bookcases (one of the bookcases also doubles as the entry door), while cabinets run around another two walls at waist-height. A door on the fourth wall indicates Ms Wyman's sleeping quarters. A handsome oak chair sits behind a large oak desk, while two comfy hard-back chairs stand in front.

Maine Street The main street of Merianga is long and lined with trees. The pavement on the footpaths is slightly uneven but after the council redid it a few years ago it’s much better. The dirt track that goes from Wolfshaw to Merianga meets Maine Street just before the shops start, opposite the pub. There are two other dirt tracks leading off of Maine Street: one goes between the post office and the play house, leading to the reserve. The other track stretches behind the park, making a path between Pizza Place and Pins and Needles. It’s not recommended that one walk the track alone at night.

Lincoln Road Another long road, Lincoln is mostly lined on either side with houses, a few exceptions being the Muggle pub on the corner of Lincoln and Maine (entrance on Lincoln), the cinema and a block of units. The footpaths are not pavement and run slightly wild with trees and shrubs.

King Street King is not a particularly leafy road, the footpaths being mostly bare and the trees bluegums, giving the street more of a ‘bush’ feel than the others. There’s an entrance to Oleander Units from here and down one end of the street the park; Pins and Needles has its entrance here, tucked amongst various types of houses.

Acacia Court Coming off King Street, Acacia Court is a green, well manicured court, houses sporting nice, small gardens. Generally considered one of the more upper class streets of Merianga, the competition between gardens – and Christmas lights in December – is taken very seriously by the occupants.

Tyre Place Small and very similar to Acacia Court in appearance, the occupants of Tyre Place have been known to compete with the aforementioned Court at Christmas. Children can often be found running up and down the street playing various games. Occasionally people haven’t been able to get to their homes because of the wheelie bin barrier the kids have set up at either end.

Hawthorne Avenue Green and lined with trees, the small street has one of the best manicured footpaths; pavement and neatly lined with grass on the other side, it and its tidiness plan to take over the rest of Merianga. Well, one council member does, anyway.

Lime Tree Grove Long, leafy and spacious, Lime Tree is quiet, pleasant and taken over by Hawthorne’s footpaths. It resembles an upper-class suburban road but isn’t limited to upper-class families. One of the most popular residential streets in Merianga the property value is slowly increasing; luckily the traffic is still slow and the games from Tyre Place often spill onto it.

Merlin Lane The only street in the whole town that is populated entirely by wizards, Merlin Lane is full of unusual things; small children on toy broomsticks, Crups, explosions going off every so often and perhaps the strangest of all is degnoming. Degnoming has become something of an event in Merianga, many of the town’s Muggles turning up to watch or even help.

Main St, Merianga Park, Founder's Way The festival is located primarily in the park, but stretches along the two main roads. Throughout the afternoon Miroratus performers can be found amongst the crowds, each presenting their individual acts to the public. Stalls in the streets and park sell food, jewellery, souvenirs, refreshments, Cards, and anything thing else their owners can think of. A stage is set up in the park, the back of it to King Street, for the bands and speakers. Security is present but not oppressive; Muggles of Merianga may choose to attend if Secrecy Charms are placed on them; they are more than welcome. There are pavilions, face-painting, rides; all the usual fair fun.
