Title: Calling all Ancient FnorDoM Archivist
Description: NEW FnorDoM Wiki!!!!!!

Roadbuster - January 15, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
Ok all,
Sorus and I were talking about the old FnorDoM page, and how it sucked and we can't update it.

So, Sorus gratiously offered to start up and host a FnorDoM Wiki for us! What we need now is members and entries!

Click HERE to start up your FnorDoM account!

Megatron - January 15, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
I requested an account. Sure I'm not an old timer, but I can represent for Megatron and his crew. After all, now that they are a part of the FnorDoM, their story will need to be told.

Sorus - January 15, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Just a note, please register with your forum name. I know the auth form requests "real name" but that's because I'm a lazy asshole and haven't changed the form

Also, please, please, PLEASE, one account per person. The user namespace (example: User:Sorus) should be used for the person behind the character, not the character itself. Sorus will belong in his own article at here.

EDIT: Roady, added you and Doc to sysop status to help sort out people as they come in (as well as all the protect/delete rights)

Roadbuster - January 15, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
Oh absoluetly, everyone should register that has a say in the fics, or that just wants to puruse the FnorDoM histories!

I just put Ancient FnorDoM Archivists because we'll need a lot of background/history from the likes of Doc, Dread, and JW%.

Dr Archeville - January 15, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
Exxxcellent....

Dreadnought - January 15, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
I THINK I created an account o_O

Megatron - January 15, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
I can't figure out the website. How do I find and edit stuff? I'll need to create a page to write a good biography for Megatron and his crew. Not only that, but how do I find pages about other users, characters, stories, and everything else?

Dr Archeville - January 15, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
It's the same exact set-up as Wikipedia (which, incidentally, turned six today). Only it's not nearly as big. Yet.

Zabgoth - January 15, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
I just added a page for me, as I'm an egotistical prick. Booyah!

I figured that out, but I've never made any edits or ever added anything to Wikipedia before, so I'm at a total loss.

Roadbuster - January 15, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
What I did... and I've never wiki'd either... was do a search for whatever... and then it gives you the option to 'create a new page' or something when it can't find it.

Roadbuster - January 15, 2008 11:31 PM (GMT)
Nice new matching color scheme!

Now... we need a FnorDoM graphic. I have the original Dominion of Monkey's sigil... somewhere... I used it as my signature on colors at one point.

Sorus - January 15, 2008 11:36 PM (GMT)
I was hoping someone would :)

I'm still tweaking the theme a little trying to mesh stuff up right.

Dark Mousette91 - January 15, 2008 11:52 PM (GMT)
because i don't know a goddamn thing about making a wiki, can someone please either show me how, or make a page for dark mousette?

now i have an account, but it won't let me sign on because it says i don't have cookies enabled... :wall: MY COOKIES ARE ENABLED!!! WHAT THE FUCK????

Sorus - January 16, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
You made an account, yes. But wasn't approved until.. 2 minutes ago.

It's a spam control mechanism. The axalon.org/wiki is currently being hammered with it, and since I don't have server side access I can't fix it (that's Riboflavin's deal).

Doc, if you'd be so kind to copy, in whole or in part, or create an interwiki link to the pertinent articles on how to use mediawiki to assist our dear frineds in getting their stuff off the ground, I'll give you cake.

Dr Archeville - January 16, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
Something like this?

JW% - January 16, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
Bah. Bah I say and shake my fist at it. You and your fancy smancy "wiki"!

I feel old. And grumpy.

Tell you what, ask me anything you want to know and I'll try to fill it in, but after a few tries with registering an account for that thing, I get the feeling this is no more useful than the site.

Oh, and that's the Fnord Empire logo. There really is no FnorDoM logo, just Dominion of Monkeys and The Fnord Empire seperate logos. Plus we have a number of people unaffiliated with either group who still, I guess, count as part of FnorDoM because they're regulars of the AUG(Swoop and UltraMan come prominately to mind).

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
C'mon JW% it's no harder than writing in a Word Document. And, as Sorus said, it's not an auto registration. You have to register, and then wait until Sorus notices and accepts the registration.

Registration is HERE

I've stolen the Fnord symbol, and I'll work with it and the DoM symbol.

We're experimenting with the Wiki, so expect various changes to come as we figure out how to implement new bits and pieces.

Btw, anyone know how to load in a pic?

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 05:51 PM (GMT)
Oh, and like I said, do a search for the topic you want, and when it doesn't find it it will say "There is no page titled "Megatron". You can create this page. " with 'create this page' as a link.

Dark Mousette91 - January 16, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
nevermind, i'm in WHEE!!

Thanks Raody, I found that yesterday when you first mentioned it. I just haven't made my page yet as I haven't had the chance.

If it's all right, I'm going to cover Megatron in 2 articles. One will be all about Megatron, and the other will be something like "The Legend and it's Crew". That way, my NPCs will get sufficient coverage. In the long run though, my Starscream might end up needing his own page, and eventualy I'll need to make a page talking about my universe.

So, if anyone has any objections to me adding up to 4 articles about my stuff in the long run, let me know.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Well, I would suggest this:

Do one Megatron article. You are currently the only Megatron in the actual FnorDoM and I honestly don't think either FnorDoM or Dominion has specifically had a runin with any Megatrons (though the seperate members have)

In the Megatron article, make sub articles to detail different aspects. Like, past history, timeline, and new FnorDoM powers.

Then, make an article for The Legend. Tailor it primarily towards the ship itself, but reference Megatron as the captain, and reference the crew.

Then then, make articles for... Starscream, Blackout, Rattrap, etc... Now, the Starscream article will have other entries in it as time goes on. As will possibly the Rattrap article (as there are various Rattraps previously in the DoM)

For each of these other articles, make sure you title the section you are writing to specify that it's an NPC and part of The Legend.

Like:

Starscream (NPC, Second in command of The Legend)

This Starscream has come from a universe that blahblahblayackityshmakity.

The value of the Wiki is that later we will add in another part like:

Starscream (spark in a can)

and detail out all that crap.

Look at Doc's article for an idea of sub-headings for your page. He's good at the wiki thing.

Dr Archeville - January 16, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
Decent enough at 'em, though uploading pics is one thing I've never been able to work out, for some reason.

I blame Lab-Rat.

Sorus - January 16, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
Of course there are no objections, this is what it was meant for.

I have a suggestion though. Don't create "The Legend and its Crew". Make The Legend, and just add in the crew in a sub section. Of course you can then link each crewmembers name to their own individual page, should you ever decide to expand on them.

Roady: http://fnordom.error-403.net/Special:Upload

Wiki supports image uploads from your HD and cross-uploads from another website. Also, it'll tell you how to include there as well.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the upload link... so, do we have a limit on uploaded pics then? There's no way to subout link pics?

And, yeah, like I said, do an article for The Legend, and then do one for each crewmember :P

Sorus - January 16, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
Like, this: http://fnordom.error-403.net/Image:Blacklegionbadge.gif

You could grab it's actual URL from that page and link it here

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
yeah, I see it now, and for others note:

"It is recommended that files are no larger than 150 KB."

heh... the photo I'm testing was 220K, so I 'm being an ass and ignoring the warning just to see what happens.

Sorus - January 16, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
No limit on uploaded pics. I'm not overly concerned with space. My concern with external linking is that WE won't be in control of the file (though, naturally, if you're linking it from your website, we are).

The file could vanish, or get replaced. Or the host might go down leaving a broken image.

I know someone who got banned from a forum because the person who was hosting his image would swap in a goatse pic if the request for the image didn't have the proper referrer.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
fair enough. I loaded a Roadbuster pic, and I loaded the TFE.gif above.

Any idea how to change the icon in the upper left corner to the Fnordia banner?

Sorus - January 16, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's a server side thing. I'll take care of it in a bit :)

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
Ok, like I said, I'll work on a new symbol, at least a shinier version of that one.

Can someone, given both the Dominon of Monkeys and the Fnordia symbols do an animated gif for them?

Sorus - January 16, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
Heh, let's try to avoid animated wackiness on the logo :)

But a new shiny one would be nice (and preferably .png with some sweet alpha transparency) as the one I tossed up there is a fair temp.

Dark Mousette91 - January 16, 2008 08:06 PM (GMT)
well, i started work on an article on chaos. if anyone can find potential pics of chaos dragons and chaos angels, i would really appreciate it

Sorus - January 16, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
Note, I've renamed the template I was using to FnorDoM, and replaced the old monobook, so in future software updates we don't get or stuff overwritten.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
uh... you also lost the color formatting X-)

Sorus - January 16, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
Small oops on my part with directory names :P

The FnorDoM template is going to be the default template, with all the pretty.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
much better. I've added in all the basic locations from the old FnorDoM website.

They need much editting and expanding now though. From people who have memories and stuff.

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
Is there some way to have a topic directory?

Sorus - January 16, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
How do you mean? We have Special:Categories which lists all the categories in use. Or were you thinking of something else?

I'll be adding Special:Categories to the sidebar at some point, with subheadings to the important bits (Members of FnorDoM, locations, Villians).

And I suppose we should start to consider the Style manual, so things are roughly uniform :P

Roadbuster - January 16, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
That's doable. You the one adding to it?
