Title: RLD Sprite Comic
Description: Reorganized
JW% - May 6, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Technically, the RLD comic was meant to be a graphical representation of the adventures in the RLD storyline. Unfortunately I started having trouble with that, as it wasn't particularly "gag a strip" material. Funniest thing I've ever read or helped writing, but not paced for a comic. Plus, it had an insane number of characters AND I got complaints from the portrayals in the strip, mostly by people who wanted forget that bit of lunacy ever happened. So every now and then I'd just do a random strip to fill in the gag, and then I did some more random stuff, and hey, it wasn't half bad. So I thought about redoing it under a new title. After awhile though I decided that the new title wasn't cutting it, so I just kept it the RLD.
So here we go, the reorganized and revisited sprite comic of the AUG:
A new begining: Short attent... ooh shinyThey fight crime together! Or not.Few things are more important than punchlinesIs it still an original character if it's some one elses?DeepMetal was a pain to sprite for.

Sorry JW% I'm gettin nuthin. Just 75 broken images.
JW% - May 6, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
Comic 76 "Wings of the Archangel: Our heroes shouldn't look down!" isn't loading for me. The rest are doing fine, but that might be because I uploaded them recently. *sigh* Guess I need to clean my cache out, see how many of them REALLY are messed up, and how many work.
Oh, given that this first page is so full of pictures, you might have to right click and select "show picture" if your browser isn't one that can handle loading that many on the first try. I might have to switch them from IMG to a link...
For referance, there's 88 RLD comics, and the first 4 which don't have the RLD logo at the top.
Sorus - May 6, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
Give me a PM JW and I'll set something up for you.
Star The Wanderer - May 6, 2008 04:09 AM (GMT)
I got the first 49 to load, the rest won't load. Some of the earlier ones are pretty good. Who is that female that appears with JW% in some of the earlier strips, the one he scans as a Digimon and is later with in a tree.
Daniel the Saint - May 6, 2008 06:16 AM (GMT)
Blade Raider - May 6, 2008 08:45 AM (GMT)
Earlier, none of them were working, then some of them were work, now all of them are working for me. Odd.
Dreadnought - May 6, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
And now I can see the hilarity. As ever, great work JW%
JW% - May 7, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
There. THAT should fix it. Honestly don't know what was wrong. Half the time they worked fine for me, the other half they were all broken images. Sometimes all I had to do was refresh, sometimes nothing could fix it.
Just so everyone knows, for some reason I can't help but giggle insanely at the thought of Doctor Archeville shouting out "Cthu - Gi - Oh!!!!!"

| Who is that female that appears with JW% in some of the earlier strips, |
The little red dragon? She's a good friend I went to school with. Alternately refered to as "LinaDragon"(or just Lina) "LilDragon" or "FlameDragon" depending on the source material(LinaDragon is her online name, FlameDragon is what she likes as her Transformers type name, and LilDragon is just what I named the file in the videogame I made for her). There are actually ten more strips that revolve around her, that, like the ones that I kept in, "I swear actually happened!"(we were building her computer desk and surprisingly hilarity ensued) I might include them at some later date, it wouldn't be hard to slip them in. The Digimon thing was a joke from a differnt comic one of her other friends did for her. Her online character is a little red dragon who, when drawn in chibi-form(or as a sprite), looks very much like a Digimon. She hates that, but it's so cute!
I tried to get her to post on the AUG, but so far nothing. Her appearance in the strip with Doctor Archeville releasing a Dalek was just because I thought it looked good.
The raccoon girl is named Shantuki(or just Shan, it's a play on Tanuki) and was another friend from school. And yes, while waiting for the train one day, I really did have to stop them from running around in a circle with Lina trying to eat her girlfriend. The reaction to that comic also turned into a comic. I honestly expected to do more such comics, particularly those ten with us building the desk, but those didn't turn out very well(for lack of backgrounds and inobviousness of the gags. One of them she's telling me to hold a flashlight for her, "a little to the left, a little to the left..." I shine it right in my own eyes and yelp "Perfect, keep it right there!")

I should have included numbers with the titles. "ComicRLD011.PNG" is perfectly fine. However, 18 and 19 did have a bit of a tangle. Should be fixed now.

| i can has guest strips? |
Define guest strips. I usually think of it as a strip sent in by a reader/fellow artist, either utilizing the characters of the "host" strip, but the art style of the "guest" artist. Given that all our characters are pretty much the same ANYWAY, I don't see what the point of doing a guest strip would be. Plus, the comic where Dark Mousette is just left alone for the first three pannels before, in the fifth, JaggedWing comments "these things write themselves" could be seen as a guest strip.

Greater_UltraMan's Dojo was the original strip that was meant to do that. It starts with his first appearance on the forums and "goes down hill from there". Unfortunately a majority of the posters who were around at that time, arn't anymore, so alot of the funny is lost(anyone remember Rattrapper being banned from The Pub?). However, when Greater_UltraMan started hanging out on BobandGeorge he had me sprite a second storyline where Ultra goes through the Megaman games(not an original idea of course, but it often worked well). That made three storylines I was trying to sprite(RLD was going on at that time, though most of those strips have been dropped from the list you see as they pertained to the original text RLD adventures. Pity too, there were some priceless jokes in there like "Waspinator brand coffee") and the older stories I already knew I just wasn't interested in "translating" to a visual medium. It was frustrating that I wasn't doing something new, and frustrating that alot of the jokes didn't translate visually(The first RLD adventure you would sign of your post with "next time on" an ever extending title for the RLD, followed by a parody of the next show teaser complete with "and of course, a little fanservice" line from Neon Genesis Evangelion's next ep teaser. The next person to post would write "previously on:" and sum up the past events that were important to this addition... and never did "next time on" and "previously on" actually match up. Sometimes opening and closing credits music/montage would even be described.)
I've lost my point. Oh well.

Prisma Nova - May 8, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
I think I would suck writing a good fic, especially THAT kind of fic. :D
Still, I should give it a try, before I judge myself.
JW% - May 8, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
First of all, a GOOD fic and THAT kind of fic are, as a rule, mutually exclusive. There may be exceptions to the rule... yeah I can't think of any either.
Secondly, it never hurts to try.
Oh, and I hate doing this, since it shows how unoriginal I am, but the joke was lifted word for word from a Catwoman fanfic site. In case you ever hit that site and the joke seems farmilar. I do that with alot, if not all, my jokes.
Prisma Nova - May 8, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Is that Catwoman fic THAT kind of fic? Either yes or no, can you send me the link? Now I'm curious... as a kitty. :novatrix:

So am I. But not as a kitty.
JW% - May 9, 2008 05:37 AM (GMT)
As I sent to Prisma, first of all, it was the website as a whole that used it as a joke, NOT a joke in the fic itself(well, not in any of them I read, I got bored and didn't read the whole archive), and secondly, from the fics I read, no they wern't "That" kind of fic. Some of them on the site probably were. At least one of them had better have been, given all the teasers, but none of them I read.
Had to bloody google the thing for Prisma, but since it was still in my history file here:

Actually on the orginal page I asked what had happened to the Predacon tyrant, even going so far as to ask if you fell victim to Dr. Slug. I don't recall JW% giving a clear reply. Then again I'm starting to realise that asking him for infomation either results in some cryptic response, leaving me to feel like he feels like I'm a nuisance to him, or way too much information.
In all honesty, neither works well for me, so I generally just ignore him. Of course with the exception of reading his fictions, story posts, and the comic itself.

I actualy had that very idea. It would be really funny if someone in the comic started asking "Where the hell is Megatron? I doubt anything here could have done much to him and-" the stop talking because at that very moment they come upon the lifeless body of Megatron with Dr. Slug on top of it staring down the character that found him, with the guy then going "-Oh shit." and running as fast as they can. It would be pricelsess! Not that I want to be taken out, but it would be funny.

Actually, I paired you with Quackerjack because he was the one DarkWing villian that I knew of(and had access to) who I could probably make the most Doctor Who jokes about. Quackerjacks clattering teeth as Dalek, his Terror Teddy as Cybamen, even the demonic PaddyWack could have made a guest appearance as "The Evil" that the Doctor faced off against. However, I don't think any of that is going to get used. Which means it all boils down to Quackerjack also having his own version of the TARDIS in the form of his Time Top. Yes, that's a bit of a spoiler for how that plotline is going to resolve.

Yeah, that sounds about right. If I don't have the information, or have partial information(IE plans are in the works but I haven't actually finished it yet), I go cryptic. I like being cryptic, it's alot more fun to mislead with a half truth than to refuse to comment or outright lie. Of course, if I have the information and I want to share it, I never know when to stop, so you're going to get an exhuberant info dump. Either way I, at least, am enjoying myself and like the feedback.

Initially I was thinking it would be a final pannel throw away gag, with some one asking "Are we all here? Okay, good, I hope we didn't forget anything..." and then the next pannel shows Megatron screaming for help in a slow torture devise("Why no Mister Tron, I expect you to die." Already used that line though) with Doctor Slug gloating over him. However, given that this is running long, I might have to go with something that gives a little more of an epic letdown, just to balance things out.
At one point my original idea was that everyone who tried to take on a villain single handedly would lose(or at least get tied up until help could arrive). Everyone who teamed up to take on a villain, or even a team of villains, would win. That means Star The Wanderer who tried to take down Magicka alone, was destined to get beat down. Same with everyone who faced Bushroot until Agent X and The Rod worked together. DrA and Prisma Nova or Starshooter and Icefang however had their victories assured from the start. When they all linked up with the final big bad(originally I wanted it to be PaddyWack, then wanted Phantom Blot) no matter how grim it looked, you knew the fight was going to be comedically onesided from the start("When he turns around and sees us, the look in his face will be priceless!"), if only by shear numbers. That rather broke apart however, when I didn't actually write that Stingray and Sorus saved Dark Mousette from Molearity(it was made pretty clear she didn't actually need saving). And then there was Megavolts and Liquidators defeats.
If I'd kept that convention, Megatron should have been beaten by Dr. Slug. Oh well, plans change...

I'm not complaining, Quackerjack was my favourite character in Darkwing Duck (which aired when I was 11).
I love the fact that of all the villain/hero encounters that one was the only one that didn't involve violence. Rather just a bit of insanity. I love how we caused a "fourth wall break" in the story
