Title: Quick survey- movie theaters

Mako Crab - June 3, 2008 10:05 PM (GMT)
I'm writing a news article about the current decline in movie theater attendance for a class and need some opinions. Some of the stuff I've read theorizes that it's due to more commercials, more trailers, higher prices, etc. etc. So this here is to basically get a general idea and gather some info. This is all intended for use in my article, so anything you type might get used.
If you don't want to reveal your real name or your full name, that's fine too. Okay so here goes:

Name:

Age:

Last movie you saw:

Did you like it?

About how many trailers played before the movie?

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you?

How often do you go to the movies?

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not?

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis?

What do you think about concession stand prices?

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting?

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time?

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.?

Anything else?

Did you like it? Yes!

About how many trailers played before the movie? 5

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you? YES (the commercials, that is)

How often do you go to the movies? Whenever something is playing that I want to see, so usually it's in spurts of 2-3 movies every 5-6 months
Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? No

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? No

What do you think about concession stand prices? Too high (plus I just don't eat that kind of food anymore. Yuck!)
What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? Clean

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Yes and yes

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.? Everyone seemed fairly glued to the screen. It was Indiana Jones, after all

Anything else? Can't think of anything at the moment

Age: 33

Last movie you saw: Iron Man

Did you like it? Yes

About how many trailers played before the movie? 5

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you? No, I prefer lots of trailers

How often do you go to the movies? It varies, but about 4 times a year.

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? It determines which theatre I go to, but it also depends on the movie. For high-end Special Effects movies like TF or ID4, I'll go to a more expensive theatre and watch it in their best theatre, but for low effects movies I'll go to a cheap theatre, even a dollar theatre.

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? Depends on who I'm with. If I'm trying to impress a girl I'll buy food in the theatre. If I'm with a bunch of mooks we'll sneak stuff in.

What do you think about concession stand prices? Way too high. $5 for a coke? wtf

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? Clean.

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Wasn't much of an audience. Went early matinee on a thursday. Yes, I had a great time.

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.?
Watching the movie.

Anything else? What are you wearing?

Anything else? I've noticed if you see movies within the first few weeks, it is normally a good experience, if you wait until they go to the "discount" theaters, the experience is far less enjoyable, and PLEASE as the father of 2 small children, please get a babysitter for anything pg-13 and up!

Did you like it? Yeah. It was Indiana Jones.

About how many trailers played before the movie? 4 or 5 Trailers, way too many commercials to keep count of

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you? That time, yeah. Most of the movies were coming out like way later in the year, like Christmas time.

How often do you go to the movies? Rarely, but mostly in the summer.

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? Nope

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? Nah, I usually get too into the movie and forget about it.

What do you think about concession stand prices? High, very high.

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? Clean mostly, sticky floor at the doors.

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Yeah and yeah.

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.? Watching the movie. It was Indiana Jones.

Anything else? Seriously, if you can't make your kid behave, hire a babysitter, don't embarass yourself by letting them show you are a bad parent.

Last movie you saw: Speed Racer

Did you like it? Yeah, it was so-so. Nice, pretty colors.:D

About how many trailers played before the movie? One very long commercial (saw it on IMAX). Usually, there are 4 to 5 commercials.

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you? No, not really.

How often do you go to the movies? Once or twice a month, if there is something good, usually during summer and Christmas. Sometimes, I don't go at all.

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? Sometimes, especially if they are starting to hike it during the high periods (summer).

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? Yeah, because paying $3 for a bottle of water is insane. And I have to use my purse for something. Usually, it is little things, like chocolate truffles or nuts.

What do you think about concession stand prices? Ridiculously high.

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? Clean with slightly sticky floors. But usually, matinee floors are cleaner.

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Yes and yes. But there are always one or two people talking, especially the newly formed and very young couples. They should get a room! Feh, youngings...

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.? Watching the movie, one couple talking...

Anything else? If you are in love and can't stop professing your love, go to a porno movie theater or go home. And if you put your feet on the seat in front of you, logically, it would bother the person sitting in it. For every action, there is a reaction....

Last movie you saw: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I'm pretty sure. Could have been Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I've seen them both recently, and my brain is a bit fried at the moment.

Did you like it? Yes(to both actually, infact really to all of them I've seen recently, but I'm going with Prince Caspian for this survey).

About how many trailers played before the movie? About 5. It really depends on what you consider a trailer. There were four true Movie Trailers, and two Movie Teasers that didn't quite equal a trailer. Plus three commercials for TV networks/shows. Plus a "making of" that was basically the actors saying "we were paid, please watch it". Plus an ad for a "limited showing, local theaters only" movie showing(Bleach The Movie: Memories of Nobody... it's probably not as local as they implied.)

Do the amount of commercials or trailers shown before a movie annoy you? Depends on if they are suitable to the enviroment or not. The movie trailers, not annoying. The coke and concession stand ads, not very annoying. The local "paid to be shown while there is nothing else running"(including a repeating "advertise on the big screen") single frame adds, not annoying. The four "please shut off your cell phones: a message from Cingular(or insert other sponsor)" advertisements only got annoying on number three(the first two were inobtrusive and/or clever enough to forgive). The two car commercials, one phone network commercial, two "advertise on our big screen" with motion and sound and two insurance ads: ALL Very Annoying.

How often do you go to the movies? Infrequently. By myself almost never, but I'll go with friends/family if they're paying

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? Yes. Even if some one else is paying, I don't want them to overpay on my account

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? Yes. Always. Even if I buy at the concession stand and don't actually eat what I've snuck in, I always at least have gum in my pocket. Frequently I sneak more in.

What do you think about concession stand prices? I try not to think about it. It sickens me. I litterally can get ten times as much food, and THE SAME FOOD, from the painfully overpriced minimart next door. Nevermind that I usually shop at discount/warehouse stores that make the minimart look like price gougers

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? The last time? Very clean, very posh. Nice refurbished reclining seats and everything. Honestly this was unusual. Normally the theater is less than clean, but far from disgusting.

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Yes.

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.? Typically I hit the odd hour showings where the audience is near nonexistant and those that do show up watch the movie and occasionally make quiet coments to their companions. Which is what I do as well. This last time was a peak hour showing, and it was larger with a select few obnoxious people. Most were actually quieter than normal however, probably because the theater was so packed and everyone was at least slightly self concious.

Anything else? I have been going to the movies this summer noticably more than in the last two years, and plan to be going several more times. Movie quality may be questionable, but movie subject matter is just now reaching my(and my social circles) interests. Ironman, Transformers, Batman, Chronicles of Narnia, and several others peak my interest enough to actually brave the theater rather than waiting until the movie comes out on DVD.

How often do you go to the movies? 1-2 times a year.

Does ticket price play a role in whether you go or not? No.

Do you sneak food into the theater on a regular basis? No.

What do you think about concession stand prices? Pretty high.

What was the theater like the last time you went? Clean, dirty, disgusting? Clean

Did you have a good time there? What about the audience- did it seem like they had a good time? Pretty pissed that I didn't see "Indiana Jones" because my dad chose the "Iron Man" (dispite my stating I wanted to see Indy) because his pirated copy had some scenes missing. Audience liked it.

Was the audience doing? Were they watching the movie or being obnoxious, etc. etc.? Watching the movie.

Anything else?
