Well, I went by Target last night and picked up the new "Transform and Roll Out" Transformers Animated DvD.
For those that didn't know, it's on sale until Saturday for $13!!
It contains the first 3 TFA episodes, involving the finding of the Allspark, the nano-monster, and Starscream's return.
Now, this is a pretty no-frills DvD still. The three episodes play back to back, and there's no chapter selection feature. The other slight disappointment to me is that this is also only in FULLSCREEN. So, if they do a Widescreen version, I'll have to get that as well.
It DOES have two short clips in addition to the three episodes.
The first short is great and involves Optimus Prime speaking to a collection of little kids, including one familiar looking young Witwicky who is determined to ask 'the hard questions' (How do you transform... Where does your head go...?) When Prime tries to speak to them seriously, the kids are more interested in seeing the Firetruck mode, much to his disdaine.
The second short simply involves Prowl and Bumblebee. Prowl trying to look cool and do a stunt run, and Bumblebee screwing it up...
This Target version ALSO includes a bonus DvD with the fourth episode, "There's no Place Like Home" This is the episode where Megatron re-awakens in the Sumdac lab. (and talk about no frills DvD, you put it in, it autoplays, NO menu whatsoever!!)
Now, the sound/vid quality on the DvDs is GREAT, much better than the Op vs Meg 2 pack. To me, it even seems sharper than it did when it aired on CN.
All in all, the $13 price makes this ABSOLUTEY worth it. Even if I have to buy another Widescreen version later on!
:peace:
dangit, I hate leaving ghosts when I move crap
Got it last night and it's everything I demand in a DVD with a bit of icing on top. The extras are fun and the first one is poking at the fans like no tomorrow. "Where does your trailer go when you transform back into a robot?" Best line Daniel has ever said...and yet we still don't have an answer! rofl
If anyone wonders, I demand these things from a DVD:
1) It contains the FULL EPISODE(S). Some DVD (mostly ones aimed at kids, like this one) cuts up the show for no reason whatsoever. Example is the first Funimation TMNT DVDs cut most of the intro monologues.
2) ORDER. The episodes must be in order if order matters (i.e. a lot of the 80's TMNT episodes are just one shots , so order doesn't matter). Again, Funimation's first TMNT DVDs did this by putting most episodes out of order. Btw, they finally started fixing that and the full episode problem by releasing half Season sets.
3) F'ing chapter breaks! I hate having to fast forward through the intro ever goddamn time! That, and I tend to watch half an episode before bed and having to fast forward to pick up where I left off is a pain. Yes, I'm looking at WB's DVDs on this one.
4) Good quality video and audio (I let this one go if the show is old). I have a single Zoids DVD made by Viz and the video is terrorable. Flashs of pink and purple pop out of no where and I exchanged it for another copy twice. Of course, I hate most of their translation to begin with, so I don't buy from them anyways.
5) No outrage prices. I'm not paying $60-$80 for about 13 of a show. G1 and Doctor Who both have my spite for this.
This DVD doesn't break any of these, so I'm a happy camper :D
I didn't get the Target exclusive, because we don't have Targets here in Canada. However, I managed to get a copy from HMV for $14.99.
It contains the all same things Roady spoke of, but no extra episode 4. For $15, it is worth it, but I would have prefer to see this full screen.
