Jonathan Leong may have a really cool back up plan if this whole singing thing doesn’t work out – be a professional driver! Jonathan Leong may be one of the few young stars who understands how fleeting pop stardom can be.
Well, that’s actually the only reason we could come up for why he’s decided to make it his life’s mission to “get every kind of licence there is” … as a back up plan of sorts, perhaps?
“My goal is to do all sorts of licences. In the future, I want to get the boat licence, the helicopter licence, the pilot licence,” he said.
In the mean time, he’s only licensed to drive cars and ride bikes, but, as he will tell you in the most excited way that the always-laid back Jonathan Leong can be – he can ride all kinds of bikes now.
That’s right – Jonathan Leong just got his Class 2 licence.
For those in the dark, motorcycle licences are split into three categories, each specifying the size of motorcycle that one is allowed to ride. Jonathan now has his Class 2 licence, which allows him to ride all sorts of motorcycles, from teeny ones to big, manly ones like his dream bike, the Harley-Davidson.
It’s a project he’s been working on since his army days, when he first got his Class 2B licence. He moved on to Class 2A while in uni, and now, at 26, he’s finally gotten his Class 2 licence.
“I love motorcycles, except when it rains,” he grinned.
Yes, there are downsides to riding motorcycles, and Jonathan knows them all too well. He said he’s been “in a few incidents, but nothing too serious”.
“That’s all part and parcel of motorcycles lah,” he said. “I’ve got a bit of scarring, but it’s ok. I’m not a girl, so the scars don’t really harm me so much.”
The most serious one was when he got knocked into by a taxi.
“Got some bruising lah, but nothing serious. Taxi drivers are usually great drivers, but unfortunately that was just an unlucky day for me, maybe,” he said. “The guy just sort of ‘squeezed’ me while I was turning.”
Was he being sarcastic about the taxi drivers? Who can tell … Jonathan has such a poker face.
But while he seems so chill about his many accidents, we wondered whether his mum had anything to say about the dangers of bike riding?
“She knows I’m quite a safe rider. I wear protective clothing, and I signal before I turn,” he said, jabbing a finger at us, to make his point.
So, what's next ... a lorry licence?
“Uh … maybe? I can be a crane driver in my spare time,” he said.
