Whenever I heard this song...Jon's singing and image automatically will come to my mind... I Love this song because of Jon. :lol:

haha, definitely, CHASING CARS has got to be jonathan's signature song already. whenever my friends/family hear on radio, they will all straight away think of Jonathan immediately. ;)

i came to love this song coz of jon!!!

Like Chasing Cars soooooo much that I bought the song from Soundbuzz. Never knew this song existed until Jon sang it on Idol show.

I listened to both versions :
Snow Patrol's version has more acoustics (very nice!) instrumental - haunting & more echoey sound & Gary's vocal is in the higher range. In some parts of the song, the music instrumental was as loud as the lead singer's voice.

Jon's vocal range is lower (sounds more rock) and he sang the song with so much conviction. I particularly like the way he emphasized some of the words (everything, don't need, anything), drag & hold the notes (forget what we're told, before we get too old, show me a garden that's bursting into life, All that I am ...., confused about how as well" etc. So there's more punch in the singing and it comes across as more forceful in Jon's version.

My verdict : Snow Patrol has got to thank Jonathan Leong for making this song so famous now and remaining in the Top 10 local chart.

I didnt know this song until Jon sang it.

My 6 yrs old son will shout 'Jon's Chasing Cars' everytime he hears it.

... and the alternative SI is "Should I stay...?". I also heard "Far Away" being played several times on the radio. Even "Addicted to Love" was played on Car Tunes, which surprised me. Jonathan's name basically "sells" anything now. Which is a good gauge of his popularity.

A bit out of topic here, do hope the young fans find inspiration in Jon, not only in his music, but also how focussed he is in getting what he wants. Education - study as much as possible, like he does. It stretches the mind and widens perspectives, makes a lot of difference, no matter what you do.

Yeah, every little song that Jon sings is magic. Snow Patrol should thank Jon for that, as "Chasing Cars" were topping the chart after Jon sang it. Heh!

So Snow Patrol if you are wondering whatssup with this little island here....people buying your CDs all of the sudden? Well....check the market trend over at Singapore. :D

So I guess people are buying Snow Patrol's CD not just because they like the "Chasing Cars" song but because JON LEONG sang it. Yay!!! If only it is Jon Leong's CD that we were buying isn't it? So imagine if it was his album that we were all buying because we love "Chasing Cars" sang by Jon? He's gonna make the record company whoever he has decided to work with...very happy!!!

And if I am not wrong there were other songs too....like "Plush", "Runaway" were played on the radio after he sang them. "Chasing Cars" and Jon are ONE. Well, at least now people don't refer Jon as the "Quando" guy. :lol:

Oh he likes to sing Mandarin songs? Sappy ones? I LOVED it all the same! Sappy songs does suit him pretty well...maybe because he has this naturale broody looks about him? :rolleyes:

All the BEST Jon in your music career and also not forgetting your studies too. Choose wisely to have more control on the kind of music you want to do. Proud of you for thinking carefully and not rush into things. Yet at the same time, putting your studies on top of things too. Good on you Jon!

Everytime listen to 'Chasing Cars' or other song that Jon sing in the SI competition...Jon's singing will automatically come to my mind...think if the song now playing is sing by Jon...even better!
Hope next year we will get to listen to Jon's singing in the radio...

Sorry folks, still on the subject of "Chasing Cars" .... a never-ending discussion. While I was in KL (over the weekend 18-19 Nov) I visted Tower Records store in Ampang/Bukit Bintang district. Guess what they don't sell Snow Patrol "Eyes Open" music album/CD. The song "Chasing Cars" was not even popular there.

In the hotel, I caught two music videos by Snow Patrol "Run" (earlier hit in 2004) and "Chasing Cars". In "Chasing Cars", the video (was rather solemn yet dreamy) had the lead singer Gary lying on the road between two cars, lying on the ground day dreaming ...., images of cars moving around.

Some info abt Snow Patrol extracted from the music review :-

I also saw the music video "In the Air Tonight" performed by Ryan Star (from Rock Star fame, he was in town recently @ Zouk). I still prefer Jon's version coz Ryan screamed too much into the song and made the song "too hard" for my liking. Jon's version had the right mix/balance of "intensity & hardness" and "sensitivity & vulnerability" (of a guy lost in love).

Verdict :
Jon is awesome & inspirational! He's someone who can influence music trends with his own singing/songs intepretation. Look at what he's injected into Chasing Cars, Wherever You Will Go, If You Are Gone, In The Air Tonite, Addicted To Love, Smooth, Faraway ... etc. They were all originally done by foreign artistes but Jon has given "new life" to these songs and revitalised their popularity locally.

Well said, Agatha. He breathed new life into these songs, resurrected them, and made them popular once more. Magni, one of the SuperNova contestants also sang "Plush". Very good too.
