Title: Suggestions on making this place more alive!
ene - November 2, 2006 09:14 AM (GMT)
Hi Jonatics,
First of all, I'd like to thank the ones who set this place up. There may not be that many members but with time and a couple of improvements, I am sure this place will be up and running very soon.
I do not like visiting some forums because it is overflowing with a thousand graphics from signatures with one liners or different fonts all over the place. I usually lose interest v quickly in such forums.
I am a member of a couple of forums (very successful ones) and thought I'd like to share my comments/thoughts on how to make this a better place for Jonatics:
1. Only post when you have more than 10 words to post.
What I mean is, sometimes, we end up replying to posts by saying "Thanks!" and that's it. It makes the thread rather meaningless. May I suggest a "Thank you" button for each thread so that if members want to say thank you, they just hit that button?
2. Descriptive titles for each thread
It is very useful to have good titles. Here are some examples:
[Audio download] Jon singing "Chasing Cars" at PAYM concert.
[Video download] Jon at signing session at Cineleisure.
[Discussion] What do you think is Jon's favourite song?
etc. etc. etc. These will of course be posted under the correct forums so that we can easily find them.
Writing "Help!" in the thread title is not helpful :(
On the same topic, KEEP TO THE THREAD TOPIC. This means not veering into a completely different topic from what is written as the title. E.g. If the thread is about Jon performing at a certain place, keep the discussion to that. Do not discuss about work, Hady or your new potted plant. It makes it easier to look for information.
3. Overall look and feel of the forum
To ensure a neat and clean look, I suggest that the webmaster limit the size of signatures in our posts. This is to ensure that there is a certain "uniformity" look to the site. This will also prevent HUGEEEEEEEEE siggies from appearing. Some members might be on dial-up or very slow connections and it's frustrating to wait for the graphics to load.
4. The rule book
We need all the rules to be posted someone on the site so that first time visitors here can read it so at least if they "break" the rules, we can gently point them in the direction.
5. Moderators
It would be good to "recruit" some moderators for this site to keep it neat, tide and friendly.
The above are just some of my suggestions. I'd be happy to write more as I go along! I am not an IT expert but will be happy to help in anyway that I can to make this place KICK ASS! ;)
If you have more suggestions, please do post as well :)

Don't apologise, silly :) I'm just giving you my 2 cents worth on making this site good. Otherwise, it'd just become another forum and people will lose interest in it very quickly.
I guess you're the web master KaiLeng? You'd need to "implement" the "rules" if you want the site to work. If not, er, you can just let it be.
Like I said, I am just sharing what I feel will improve the hit rate and user-bility of this site.

darling i'm not the web master.
hehheh.
try maintaining certain threads as a moderator..
:)
thanx again for the feeedbacks and suggestions..
Much Love,
KAiLeng

we have moderators already and i changed my signature to just one line. hopefully that helps. there was some discussion bout the rules in an email circulating around.. not sure what's the latest though. but thanks for your thoughts! the Thank You button's also a good idea. love you guys!

Heya! You're most welcome. I just wanted to share some of my comments because I am a member of another very well-run forum with thousands (!) of members. They are very strict with their rules but it makes for easier viewing and searching of information.
If they are in place, maintaining the place would be much easier and Jonatics can have a beautiful online community that we can all be proud of! ;)
Btw, cute Xmas icons!

I have a piece of suggestion here...probably we need to try to cut down one liners...and write more for us..:) so that the forum more meaningful...

Yes. I totally agree. It is sometimes frustrating to go into a thread, only to realise that 4-5 posts are one-liners saying "Oh ok" or "Thanks!".
;)
Perhaps the site moderators can add in a "rule" where if there is less than 10 words, the message can't get through? Seems to help in other successful forums.
Just my 2 cents worth!

I don't have a suggestion, but a complaint - the Fanworks thread seem to have disappeared. Does it happen only to me? I am using different computers, yet I cannot see the thread. :(

Yup. Either way. It happens fairly often, that I thought the thread was closed.

Hahaha eveline...sorry to spoil your Sunday evening...
ya lor...get panic to see some of the forum just disappeared

My view...
an active site...
need more posting to attract people to come and visit...
while waiting for Jon's news, update, photo, event, performances etc...
if you come across any nice stuff...post and share.
Of course anything on Jon will come first.
diyanahomie - December 7, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)

eveline - January 2, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
Dear all,
I would like to suggest that we dont allow spammer here...to spam any other artiste and talk bad about them here...
this forum reflects who we are...let's be the nice one...maybe we can flag those who spam and ban them from this forum?
just a penny of my thought..:)

yups, please do not slam other artistes.. if found so, post will be edited or deleted. subsequently, warning levels will be increased.. this is what i have done so far..
as for spammers, yups, they are already suspended from the forum.
eveline - January 3, 2007 10:21 AM (GMT)

Yea, its not nice to slam other artistes because we do not want others to slam Jon too! It would become a slamming cycle and quite silly! Everyone has their personal preference and lets be gracious!!
Thanks Diyana for tracking and we look forward to meeting you soon!

hi, nice to see so many conversations!
Got a little suggestion to give here. the forum will be more user friendly if people can stop posting unnecessary one liners in all the threads. quite difficult to scroll through everything. in other forums that i am member of, the moderators usually regulate such things, so those forums are nice and neat.
so if have nothing meaningful to say, there is no need to spam one liners or senseless comments throughout just for the sake of posting or making one's presence felt, agree?
just my humble view :)

deleted...
Oh Yes! 1 request - Can we include a delete command for our own posts? So that the person wanting to delete his/her own posting need not do this "deleted..." thingy. :P
eveline - March 7, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
Dear all,
Thanks for alerting some indecent post...
just to suggest here...feel free to keep us informed, should there be spammer...
we will try to delete it as soon as possible...
let us work hand in hand...:)
