Title: Should I Stay...?
Description: A local composition

Should I Stay

(Jon's version)

Had a drive
Driven by your love
But when you messed around
I lost the drive I found

Thought you needed
Needed someone true
But you changed your mind
Or had I failed you?

Wish you’d been
Careful with my heart
But you tore it apart
And broke an angel’s heart

It’s hard holding you
Loving you, losing you
It’s sad to be true
And be fooled by you

I don’t know (I don’t know)
I gotta know
Should I stay or should I go?

You played me on
Played me like a clown
But I feel for you
Eventhough I’m down

It’s hard holding you
Loving you, losing you
It’s sad to be true
And be fooled by you

I don’t know (I don’t know)
I gotta know
Should I stay or should I go?

Oooohh…should I stay?
Should I go?

It’s hard holding you
Loving you, losing you
It’s sad to be true
And be fooled by you

I don’t know (I don’t know)
I wanna know
Should I stay or should I…?

This time its done
It’ll never feel the same
But we had some good times
Guess it’s sad just the same

I guess the truth
Doesn’t matter somehow
But you were livin’ proof of what love is about…

The first time I heard this song was when Jon sung it during the finals. Not sure if I could describe the rendition as heart rendering, but it did somehow tugged at my heartstrings. Heard it for the second time at the Hype Up concert. Made me feel really sad then.

Heard the original version later on, but could not quite make out if the singer was a male or female. It is a beautiful song with a haunting melody. I have since been listening to Jon’s version, for the nth time already, and still love listening to it.

He sung it again yesterday, sounding better each time.

Should I Stay was originally sung by local band Dreamz FM, now disbanded already. consists of 3 guys. one of the guys is now an actor with Channel8. forgot his name already. hahaa. they also sang the chinese sing "bu zhi de" (not worth it). :]

Jon put this as his finale song @ Chinatown Point on Sat, he seems to be communicating with you fans thru the pun on the song title :-

Should I Stay - I will like to stay with you ppl,
Should I Go - But I really need to leave you folks now and get on with our own lives (get your tissues, sob ..... till we meet again)

Verdict : I kinda agree this is a sad song about break-ups and other things ... I cannot go with the analysis coz it might break some sentimentalists' hearts. Just read deep into the lyrics. Jon, I understand when U sang this song on Sat 9/12.

Sorry, watched Star Awards, thoughts also switched channel.

If that was what he meant, then he was giving out mixed signals. He was asking earlier "would you lie with me, and forget the world..?"

Haha..I think these 2 songs have become his signature tunes for now at least. He sang them in almost every performance.

That's why "Should I Stay or Should I Go" is very appropriate to be put as the last song and it was sung after Chasing Cars. "Should I Stay" has sort of become his signature song before he takes his leave from the stage (?). He also sang it as a finale song @ Orchard Cineleisure & Idol Grand Finals. No need to press any panic button; tis is just a short departure till Jon meets you all again.

As to him sending mixed signals, only Jon himself will know exactly wat he's thinking (I can only guess so much). From an emotional point of view, you folks would crave for Jon even more, 'Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder' (and maybe experienced Jon-deprived withdrawal symptoms). As tis is my own interpretation, don't read too much into what I wrote. I had better not go on otherwise I might receive a strong backlash from the other Jonatics (Ouch!, haha). I believe we will be seeing Jon soon ... (ooops!).

How about "Out of sight, out of mind"?

I remember reading somewhere when asked if he was worried about being "forgotten", his reply was that it is the responsibility of the singer to ensure that he is not forgotten.

Anyway, Jon is a smart person. He knows what's best for himself.

Meanwhile, I will continue to appreciate this song for what I like about it.
