Alex Max Band the voice and passion behind The Calling is currently taking a break from The Calling and working on his first solo CD. (Schedule to release in 2007).

"My mission for the rest of this year is to include all my fans on every step of my solo career; my new online site www.alexband.net, my Myspace page www.myspace.com/alexbandmusic and of course you can find out more details on my official fansite www.alexmaxband.com. So, stay tuned and I will fill you in on all that is to come. Thank you all again for the love and support you have given me over the last 4 years. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life and I'm on my way to making new ones. All the love ....Alex".

“The Calling” has been my fave band ever since I heard “Wherever you will go”. It is not just the music or the lyrics; you could hear passion in Alex’s voice when he sings. I would love to watch his “Live” performances but unfortunately not in Singapore. So I bought the DVD “Music in High Places - The Calling (Live in Italy)”, and I loved it! There is another DVD “The Calling - Wherever You Will Go/Adrienne”, which I would like to have but I can’t find in our music stores.

By now if you have been following my blog you would know that I am an avid supporter of local artiste - Jonathan Leong. During Singapore Idol, Jon sang “Wherever you will go” and was very impressed with Jon’s rendition of that song. And I thought he did sound like Alex Band. Ever since then I started to vote for Jon steadfastly. Wanting to make his dream comes true so that he could do what he loves to do, that is to sing and perform. Both Jon and Alex are born under the star sign of “Gemini” and they are also a great fan of U2 front man Bono too!

[Taken from Alex’s official Fan Site] Alex - I would love to collaborate again with an artist. I have written with a lot of artists on my record (some you might have even heard of) but not in the sort of way "Why Don't You and I" was done. Santana has a special thing going for him that I haven't really seen another artist capture…and mostly because he is a lead guitar player who can add another layer underneath a vocalist such as myself. So, being a singer, and not counting just writing a song with someone, your question of collaboration would pertain more towards a duet with some vocalist I admire. And we all know Bono is one of them…I hope that could happen one day! I'm just trying to meet the guy first! I will tell you, without giving away too much, that there might be collaboration on my record for a song or two.

So the reason why I like Jon singing a lot is because he sounded like Alex Band? It would be unfair to Jon to say that, because both Jon and Alex are very passionate in their music and they have very strong stage presence. Alex wrote most of his songs, and I believe Jon is capable of writing his own songs too. They both have an unique voice….and I love the way they sing and emote in their songs. To me, Jon Leong is our Singapore version of Alex Band! And I am very proud of him! Oh, that is a compliment actually. ;)

oh but i admit that when i heard "wherever you will go", i thought he did sound like alex band :] and in a way, they are alike cos they both have unique voices, so i guess its a compliment too!

oh, all along i thought "Why Don't You & I" was sung by Santana & Chad Kroeger(frontman of Nickelback)! gosh i love that song alot haha.

Oh, didn't mean it that Jon is the cover version lah. I am proud of him because it proves that in Singapore we do have our own talents. And saying Jon sounds like Alex Band who is a very successful singer and songwriter is a compliment.

"Before embarking on a solo career, Alex and his band, The Calling, released two very successful albums and many hit singles, including "Adrienne," "Our Lives," and the massive hit “Wherever You Will Go,” which spent most of 2002 on the Billboard Charts and recently was awarded a BDS Award for 800,000 spins. The band's album "Camino Palmero" has sold 3 million worldwide. Alex has appeared in films such as "Coyote Ugly" and "Fish without a Bicycle." His music has been featured in such films as "Daredevil," "Kate and Leopold," "Love, Actually," and "Sweet Home Alabama." The song "Our Lives" was used as the theme for the television show "Clubhouse" and was played during the closing ceremony at the Summer Olympics in 2004. It was also featured in the trailer for the 2006 Oscars. In addition, Alex recorded and released the #1 single "Why Don't You and I" with Carlos Santana in 2003."

But there is one thing that Alex Band can't do that Jon can, and that is Jon can sing Mandarin songs. Heh...no offense Alex. :D

Here is our very own homegrown talent, Singapore Ido Runner-Up, Jonathan Leong singing"wherever you will go". It brings back good memories, watching it again!

I think I know where you (Jules) are coming from.
Alex is a very talented singer songwriter.

Jon has a very unique voice & makes a good singer.
Over time he may dabble in songwriting as well.
Guess its every singer's dream.
