Title: Jon's Christmas Letter to Everyone

blythe - December 21, 2006 08:52 AM (GMT)
Hi all,

Here's Jon's 3rd letter, i'm sure it'll keep you feeling all warm & nice on a rainy day like this!

+++

It's only a few days to Christmas! This is the most anticipated time of the year for me, the time where people share good times and spread happiness. This is also the time where I get to eat the nice food at my family gathering on Christmas day!

Thank you so very much for ALL the cards and lovely gifts! I have not received so many Christmas presents in my entire life! I absolutely love all of them. Thank you again! However, you shouldn't have… the money you spent on gifts for me could be put to much better use… like pampering yourself to something during the festive season! Your constant support is more than I can ask for and that's really good enough for me. To those of you who were involved in writing in the scrapbook and in the caroling… it was wonderful and very touching. It must have taken so much time!

I was just thinking to myself that a lot of you have been with me ever since the very beginning of my public pathway to a music career. Its been great having you at my side and the love you put in to see me through this infantile time of my career has not been put to waste I can assure you. It has been a great, eventful year for me and most of the credit goes to you. Going as far as I did in the competition, and being voted as hunk of the year (which came as a real surprise!) are just some of the things amongst many that you have made possible.

The couple of months after the competition have been very exciting and yet foreign to me, adjusting to changes in my life and learning about the music business have been really interesting. Honestly, sometimes it is a little frightening because everything is so new to me and you never know whether you will succeed or fail with the decisions you make. But I can only hope for the best and do what's in my power to do I guess.

The main prerogative for me is to be recognized as a stand alone artiste and not as the runner up of the competition, that was a stepping stone to get me noticed but if I don't hold my own ground I will be forgotten as new programmes and competitions appear on television. Maybe that's why I get bored when people ask me about the competition now. Resting on past accolades is not something I want to do and living in the past is something I avoid. I don't want to be remembered as the "Singapore idol runner up guy"! Haha. I have to hold my own ground if not I won't last.

On a lighter note, I was looking through a couple of art books in borders that day and I came across one huge book of one of my favourite artists, Norman Rockwell. Maybe you can take a look at his work! Its really good. And he paints a lot of Christmas paintings which in my opinion really capture the festive mood… his Santa Claus is the way I imagine Santa Claus should look like. Speaking of Christmas stuff, I went with my secondary school teacher to catch the king's college choir at the esplanade. They are really good! It made me feel all festive inside. It was great to catch up as well.

Being the movie buff that I am, in the next few days I will head out to rent Christmas movies that put me n the holiday mood like love actually, the nightmarebefore Christmas, jingle all the way, merry christmas mr bean(which I watch with my cousin every year since I was 13), and home alone. Maybe if I can spare the time I would go catch "the holiday" too. The trailer looks good.

The festive season is the time for peace, love, sharing, enjoying the company of the people that you love, it's the time to forgive and get ready for another year and another chance to make the things in our lives right. Eat what you like, drink what you like and enjoy the family and friend bonding time. Here's to a wonderful Christmas! I wish you all the warmest fuzzy feelings which can only come about at Christmas, may you have lots of fun laughter, mistletoes and cheer. See you for the new year's countdown at vivocity if you go but if not, all the same…

Have yourself a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.

Jon.

Hi Jon,

Hope you have a blessed Christmas and a fantastic 2007!

Oh...I saw "The Holiday" yesterday evening at GV Vivo, and I totally loved it!! Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black were all totally awesome. Jack Black can really sing and he is funny too!

Well, if you have the chance to catch that movie...I think is worth watching it. Alot of talking, heh...witty, funny conversation. There were certain scenes thought was quite touching...and get me alittle teary. It feels nice to be falling in love...

"Love Actually" is great too! Good movie!

Yay...I enjoyed it! Hope you do catch it. And your most welcome. See you at the countdown!

blythe - December 21, 2006 09:38 AM (GMT)
Thanks Colleen, once again! And for helping out with the other "thing" too! :)

Merry Christmas Mr Bean is hilarious! I always remember how he got his head stuck in the turkey, the silly present he gave to his girlfriend & the marmite-dipped twigs he offered to his guests for dinner! Haha

And i've always wished there was such an amazing toy store like Duncan's Toy Chest in Home Alone 2! Especially when watching it as a kid, it's like everything you could wish for!

But my all-time favourite Christmas movies for now has got to be Love Actually and Millions! There's something about the Brits & Christmas which gives that warm, fuzzy feeling!

Oh yes, for those who wanna go to the Countdown @ VivoCity but have yet to e-mail me, please do so as tickets are still available! smiley

by Norman Rockwell

Thanks Jon for sharing Norman Rockwell with us. Here it is, if you like to see what Jon is referring to. I can see why Jon likes his artwork. It gives you....a sort of nostalgic feeling? Ah Jon....you are truly a conventional guy aren't you? Nice!

Sorry off topic, michelle_miko, I couldn't help noticing your signature...that is the lyric of "should I stay"? I think the lyrics doesn't seem correct?

check out the mediacorp site, and you could even listen to the original singer "dreamfm". When I first heard it by "dreamfm", I like it alot and didn't know it was by our local artist, or it was composed by Ken Lim. heh!

jon, thks for another letter.

nice to hear from u and know how u feel as this great eventful yr for u draws to a close.

a time for retrospection for both u and us (yr passionate supporters) - love being with u and seeing u grow, and raving over everything abt u; be it a slight change in hair length or a pout or yr sweet sweet smile (please never hesitate to smile as it really brings a lot of joy to people). love the broody look too! and of course, love love love yr voice/singing!!

u're such a joy to watch. will miss u terribly when yr term starts, but will take it as a hiatus. (u won't be forgotten, not when u're mr february in the 8-days calendar. it's great that in this infantile stage of yr career, u're calendar-worthy as this will have some hold on people in 2007.) and when u next perform (after the vivocity countdown), we'll all go wild with excitement!

glad to see u as a well-balanced person - being retrospective but at the same time also having a wacky zany sense of humour; imagine watching merry christmas, mr bean over and over again!

next yr u'd be busy studying but we'll keep u in mind and our best wishes will always be there for u. hope u wd take time to write to us off and on, just to let us know that u remember us too (just like u remember yr sec sch tr - isn't she one lucky lady? :) )

merry christmas! and a great 2007!

god bless!

rachel
