Title: American Idol S6
April - January 17, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
Just watched the first episode of AI6! I think the first couple of episodes are always my fav cos they always show all the hapless people attempting to sing. Anyone watched? The 'Kiss' medley was a hoot! And was one lady dressed in black who kept protesting that she had been training for 10 years and that she could sing until Simon shut her up with 'But I was not your teacher'. lol
And that poor guy Josh, who kept singing in the same raspy voice in whatever genre they made him try. Pity though that they kicked him out, he looked rather cute. hehe.
Looking at the trailer, tomorrow's episode looks promising, that is, full of laughs and cringes again. rolleyes:

hehe....oh man, it is either torturing or fun for the judges. Aww...Simon Cowell, he is so cool, don't cha think so?
smitten
Guess before they sing, you kinda know more or less if they could?
Somehow, that's how I felt. But you never know, like Clay Aiken?
Hmm... some don't really need Simon to tell if they could sing or not, if we ordinary people watching could tell? Aww...well hope those didn't get through the audition will take it positively. "ouch!"
knock knock

Does anybody like Jewel? It's been a long time since I last heard of her till she appeared as guest judge on AI today!
Oh my, it's already season 6? I didn't realise that, wow!
k-rex - January 18, 2007 05:55 AM (GMT)
Yes yes... I watched it too... what a HOOT!!!
If anything, it proved to me that there sure are some loonies out there 1uglystupid... like the 16 yr old juggler guy... and the AI superfan lady...
I have a couple of faves from last night... the 16 yr old guy (can't recall his name), the Reagan/navy guy, and the army reservist gal... :D
Ooh... another 2 hours tonight... enjoy!!!

i personally like the little kids CM of American Idol.. they're all so cute!
the auditions are so funny.. cant wait to watch tonight!
eveline - January 18, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
I am watching now..and listening
to the unchained melody by a guy named Nicholas...then I become speechless mode....:P
April - January 18, 2007 02:30 PM (GMT)
May I comment that I will never hear Unchained Melody and Bohemian Rhapsody in the same way again?
Sam's Mom - January 18, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
I was giggling away at April's and Eve's comments
Unchained melody and Bohemian Rhapsody...that good or that bad?
k-rex - January 18, 2007 04:13 PM (GMT)
Hahaha!!! Yah, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse... and remember the blonde-haired lady who sang "Don'tcha", the one with her black-haired mum? Think they can win mother-daughter lookalike contest... :P
Oooh, I really like the Indian sister and brother... such sweet voices... :D
eveline - January 18, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
yes, I like that indian siblings too..:)
btw, talking about unchained melody :
oooooo my loveeeeeeeeeeee....my darliiiiinggggg .....so slowwwwwwwwlyyyyy......
this guy really sing so sloooooowwwwlllyyyy...... :P
April - January 18, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, thought that the Indian siblings were pretty groovy. When the sister started singing, I thought I heard Norah Jones haha.
Eve, it's not just that unchained melody was sung very sloowwwwly, it was excruciating to hear. When he hit the falsetto part, I choked on my pizza.
So Bernie, it was NOT good. Bohemian Rhapsody also, I was giggling like a lunatic when the guy called Red sang it. I dunno how to begin to describe his singing. Queen would flip!
Krex, the blond lady who sang dont cha...she seemed to have the same shade of lipstick as her mom. In fact, I think her momma more sexy than her. lol
There were these two guys who made friends with each other - the big-eyed one and the plumpish hawaiian shirt one (Kenneth/Jonathan). Gosh!!!! They seem seriously deluded! But Simon was so mean, he called the big-eyed guy one of those creatures in the jungle. Aiyo!

Yes, definitely same shade of lipstick.
Oh! The big-eyed guy really looked like one of those nocturnal animals you see featured on Animal Planet... I can't recall what its called... you know, the one with those huge black eyes, often found on tree branches, with a long tail? I think its a marsupial of some sort...

As Simon calls it...a bushbaby. So horribly mean! Not that guy's fault that he got protruding eyes right?
k-rex - January 19, 2007 06:25 AM (GMT)
Actually, its not just the bushbaby guy... I find that in the 2 episodes so far, they showed quite a bit of the "less conventional" looking people... making fun of their physical appearances... quite sad, really. <_<
April - January 19, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
I suppose the judges had their reasons for criticizing the contestants who did not look so conventional. If you noticed, many of the 'unconventional-looking' contestants were declaring on national TV that they had what it takes to be the next AI. But the problem is not in their looks (or lack of it), it was that they were convinced that they could sing, when they obviously could not. And even after the judges told them they could not sing, they kept insisting that the judges were wrong. So, I guess in a way, you could almost say they deserved the ugly comments cos they were lacking in both the image and vocal departments, but still insisted on being rude or whiney about the rejection. :P
nickky - January 19, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
I only managed to catch 1) the fat lady who's husband thought she was wasting her time (and I agree) but her son thought she could do it, then she later claimed she was unwell that day. 2) the Indian siblings (ooh, I really like the brother). <_<
Should not have channel-surfed, especially to PSS2. I kept getting Nat (NOT impressed at all). smile27
blythe - January 19, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
My favourite is.....
*Drumroll*
"The Hotness"!!!!
Haha She's so funny! But Paula likes her attitude!
April - January 22, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
Ok, I couldnt quite figure out whether I heard 'The Highness' or 'The Hotness'. Thank you kindly for the clarification! Although I must say she had steroid-enhanced lips or something. When she sang, I was 'mersmerized' by her lips. hehe.
Upset that I missed the Dance Floor last nite though, anyone caught it?
jocex - January 24, 2007 12:46 AM (GMT)
yeah.. Hmm. dance floor was alright.. And Daphne frm sg idol 04 was taking part in it too! anyway, the first epi is jus the auditions. i tink the next epi will be niceR! =) so, dun be too upset yeah? =)
k-rex - January 25, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
Last night's auditions uncovered a couple of really talented people... I like the guy called "Sundance"... and the lady who is a back-up singer... think she looks like a young Gladys Knight. :P
April - January 25, 2007 07:04 AM (GMT)
Thanks jocex, for the dancefloor update :)
I like the back up singer too, but she looks so shy! Hope she would get more confident. I thought the bald guy who just had a baby looked quite cute but I didnt like his singing. Was so high lah.
And the guy who claimed he could sing like Elvis...sounded nothing like him.
Me was very tickled by the dude with the funny hat who pulled a towel out from his crotch region and then coolly just zipped up! LOL.
nickky - January 25, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
I like the weird guy with the long hair and beard. The shy backup singer is also quite cute.
April - January 25, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
Okkaaayyy, Isadora...She gave me goosebumps with her version of Lady Marmalade.
The 'Fly me to the Moon' guy was really good though, like his singing very much! :)
nickky - January 25, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
New York, the city of nuts and whackos. My mouth dropped a few times. Kudos to the judges for taking it in their stride.
angeliclovegal - January 25, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
the beardy guy has a nice voice man!
there was this woman in this dress showing off all her ahem, BOOBS.
she sang until so screechy!
eeyer see lah talk about it only scared already. x)
ehh but everyone has to agree our darling jonathan still the best with his QUANDO QUANDO HOR!
blythe - January 25, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
Did you guys catch the last lady for tonight's episode? Her name was Isadora or something & when Paula asked her if she can sing like Chris Daughtry, she misheard & said "Versace?" Hahaha I almost choked on my dinner! I think there were a lot of overly emo people in NY, donch you think so?
ZHIXUAN - January 25, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
HAHA!
They cannot control their emotional feelings.
It's just an audition, there's no need to cry as though there is no tomorrow.
There was one thick lips girl in today's episode, she cried like hell when she got out. Damn funny!
And this girl with the red hat, she over-reacted can!
k-rex - January 26, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
Yah, I think last night's NY auditions were the most bizarre EVER! I don't know which is worse - the lady who said you don't have to sing to be the next AI (I think she is the one who wore a hat) or the girl who tried for the 3rd time and kept talking to the judges on and on (the day time soap one...) 1uglystupid
I personally liked the blonde-haired girl who had been exercising and working out for a year for the auditions... and the guy who had forgotten his lyrics on AI S5. :D
blythe - January 26, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
I liked the bearded guy too! He looked like he was going to start a revolution but I think he'll look pretty good if he cleans himself up a bit!
The girl who had been working out for a year sure has lotsa determination! *kow tows to her* She has an edgy style too which is quite unique!
nickky - January 31, 2007 02:14 PM (GMT)
Quite boring show tonight. But I find the fat curly hair guy cute and funny and I like his singing. Birmingham people so polite ya. :)
April - January 31, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Just watched the re-run. I like the yellow woman who said she was 26, then 30 and finally 50. She's got a cute little yellow handbag. Yee-hah!
k-rex - February 1, 2007 12:37 AM (GMT)
Hahaha... the big bird lady is one gutsy lady man...
Ya, I like the curly-haired guy too, he is quite the funny one... and the newlywed blonde-haired girl (the one they said had to work on her nasally voice)... she reminds me of Kelly Pickler (maybe its the way she speaks) :D
I thought Nichole (who had the Team Nichole for support) was pretty and didn't sing too badly... pity she didn't make it to the next round.

When the old gentleman started singing for his wife who had just passed away from cancer, I wanted to cry. I thought he actually sang quite well, in an old-school kind of way, and he was better than many of the other contestants. I suppose when you sing with real emotion, the song just sounds more beautiful. Very touching.

Yes, April I actually cried when he sang!
He sang so beautifully. Very touching & reminded me of my late mum...lost her to cancer too. Ya, cried buckets!

Me too! I cried. It was very touching indeed. Love his voice actually.
I find AI last night more interesting than Wednesday's show. Boring sometimes but still had a few good laughs and nice moments. I like the backup singer. At least he sang more romantically than the other dude who claimed he would have all judges swooned with his singing. Although I had an inkling his singing would be bad when he started boasting, still I nearly fell off my chair when he sang.
But the funniest part for me was the self-taught guy who sang in falsetto all the time. Especially when Simon Cowell found out that he actually learned singing through the DVD training of Paula and Randy. Hilarious! But poor guy, must have been very confused with the whole commotion of Simon kept asking him back whilst Paula and Randy kept asking him to go.

Yeah, I was touched by the old gentleman's singing as well; the song was "You Belong To Me" (originally sung by Patti Page) - it did elicit me into a nostalgic mood (and I am still thinking of the song). Tears rolled down Paula's cheeks too.
Mushy you may say but I do like oldies especially those during the era of 1950s and 1960s as they have such soothing melodies and lyrics of such simplicity that when sung with feelings, the result is "sentimentalism in its right element".
See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember, darling all the while
You belong to me ...............
April - February 2, 2007 06:43 AM (GMT)
Agatha!! When I saw the lyrics at the bottom of you post, it almost had me tearing again! I never saw this song as overly sentimental until that gentleman sang it, and I could actually feel his love and longing. *bawl*
