Title: The Dance Floor

k-rex - February 8, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Anyone watched The Dance Floor last night?

My favourites from last night are JDI, Platinum and Vas & Pris (in that order). Hope they make it to the next round! :D

I'm not planning to do any voting for this show though... at least not at the moment... I just want to sit back, relax and enjoy the show...

I found the judges comments a bit strange though... either they absolutely loved it or hated it... and not much constructive criticism given to the contestants. Maybe its the 1st group of the Shuffle round (equivalent to SI Spectaculars), and they haven't "warmed up" yet... hopefully their comments improve as the weeks go by.

Oh... and LSA... I think that's the name of the 2-gal group... I honestly thought it was a wardrobe malfunction when one of them started fiddling with her partner's skirt!!! Who was to know there would be a striptease-like moment on national TV?!

Lynn - February 8, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
Hey kl, I only managed to catch second half of the show.
Enjoyed Vas & Pris performance. Didn't like LSA <_<

The judges were quite weird, not very constructive comments.

Agatha - February 8, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)

I do agree that The Dance Floor judges do not give much (if any) constructive comments unlike America's "So You Think You Can Dance" where both generous and scathing remarks on techniques, body lines, emotions, chemistry-partnership, energy level & facial expression etc were being dished out.

Perhaps this being the first episode, they really do need to take a little more time to warm up; after all this is Singapore's first dance reality programme. In last night's show, the groups were:-

1. Break Force Crew exhibited co-ordinated and choreographed break-dance
ala hip-hop moves. Good energy level.

2. Freestylerz - lots of wiggles, jerks and body spasms and even moon-walks.
As it's a two-man group, might be more entertaining if there were at least
four or five members to give full display to the co-ordination styles.

3. J.D.I - the hip-hop moves were performed in a fun groovy way with
antics thus adding a new dimension to dance and providing a refreshing
change but have to keep the "acting" to a low dosage otherwise the
choreography can come aross as infantile.

4. Platinum - the all girl group attempted to incorporate slick dance moves
and techniques into their jazz cum hip-hop routines. Too polished for
anybody's liking?

5. Vas & Pris - Vasily & Priscilla are standard ballroom dance champions;
this cute couple moves effortlessly from jive, swing, waltz & quickstep etc
with elegant style and nifty footwork. Has created an "entertaining &
teasing" element to the otherwise standard "prim & properness" of
most ballroom dance routines.

As for the other three groups, I will reserve my comments (haha!). So who's going to make it to the final 10; sigh .... as usual the votes will be the deciding factor as in all reality shows.

I totally agreed that the judges comments were really weird.
Probably because I'm used to the jugdes in SI.
I think the moves of Break Force Crew are real cool.
Their moves were impressive and I was stunned while watching.

As for Vas and Pris, thats the only group that I concentrated fully on their moves.
:D
They danced really well :)

Lynn - February 9, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Vas & Pris make it to the top 10! wave

k-rex - February 9, 2007 05:37 AM (GMT)

Melvin & sharon won all the judges' praise tonight! *yay*

Hope that tml they can advanced either by public votes or judge's choice.

Am excited to go to mediacorp tml to support melvin coz he is my dancesport instructor for sports & wellness module in sch. Way to go melvin!

Agatha - February 22, 2007 06:32 AM (GMT)

Hi Louisa, guess you must be enjoying your sports & wellness classes.

Well, fodder for KP conversation to the rest - Mel & Sharon used to be dance students of Gladys until they ventured out to set up their own dance school. My guess is that they will make it to the Top 10 via viewers' votes and perhaps not via judges' choice (haha, know what I mean).

BTW, Vas & Pris and Kelvin & Rosanne (one half couple of Batucadas) are also G's students and they all make it to the Top 10 via viewers' votes ... but they also exhibit technical dance skills and all that hype, lah!

What about judges' choice; close fight between Fantastic Four and D2K. If R.E. (Rebecca & Elson) make it to the finals, it's probably because the judges are curious to know how they actually look like behind their masked faces and nothing else.

Hmm... I'm just curious... is there any difference between judges' choice and viewers' choice? I would think the judges would already pick 2 teams... then if their 1st pick happens to be the viewers' choice, then they would declare their 2nd pick as judges' choice... or... or... would they still announce their 1st pick as judges' choice, and if it happens to be the top viewers' choice, they would announce the 2nd highest viewers' choice as the viewers' choice? Am I making any sense or have I confused everyone? idiot2

Lynn - February 22, 2007 10:48 AM (GMT)
k-rex, what you say makes sense.
Most likely your first assumption is adopted I think

louisa - February 22, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
Just came back from the dance floor results.

Mel & sharon make it via viewers' choice.

Nevertheless, my sch's cca dancesports members all cheer very loudly for them. They are the MAN AND WOMAN. Hahaha.

linda - February 23, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
Yeah, man! Mel & Sharon are simply great! Cldnt wait for more of Mel & Sharon!!! $neh

k-rex - February 23, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
Lynn - Thanks... heehee... I think they would go with the 1st method too...

Oh, I missed the results show last night... so who made it apart from M&S? I hope its D2K... or RE (just curious to see their faces too... )

Judges' choice was Fantastic Four.
Well, RE can keep their masks on...but wait still got wildcard round ha!

Theoretically there is supposed to be a difference between the two, or the results may have been skewed (oops!)

Call it mere coincidence, the three groups (from the last 3 rounds) all hailed from G's school of dance and they have all made it to the Top 10 via viewers' choice (as I have predicted) and not judges' choice (yeah why, make a guess). Perhaps Dancesport fanatics must have voted aplenty for them; such is the allure of Ballroom/Latin American competitive dancing if I may say.

k-rex - February 23, 2007 01:19 PM (GMT)
Lynn - Thanks for the info... hmm... me thinks JDI from the 1st show is better than Fantastic Four... oh well, we'll see what happens during the wildcard round...

Agatha - Ya, could be a mere coincidence... or maybe there is very strong support from the ballroom dancing community in Singapore... compared to the hip-hop etc dancing community?

angeliclovegal - February 23, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
i wanted d2k! they've got nice bods haha. wait no jonathan's are nicer of course aye x)

Yup, lately, dancesports aka ballroom dancing has become a trend, partly due to movies like take the lead and step up.

Lynn - March 2, 2007 05:55 AM (GMT)

Hey k-rex, JDI is in the wild card round & Platinum too. smile3
I think also R.E.

Lynn - March 8, 2007 12:35 PM (GMT)

JDI through to the top 10! So did Platinum. :D

Sam's Mom - March 9, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
So glad that Platinum and JDI are in.

Sad that Freestylerz didn't make it.

Wish they could have taken 3 groups into the final 10.

KaiLeng - March 12, 2007 09:17 AM (GMT)
wow.you guys watch dance floor!

:D

Lynn - March 23, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)

Puzzled...how's the performance round judged? voting? how come no result on Thursday? Then perfrom again next Wednesday...blur...still 10 group left?? only watched the last performance by JDI (rock & roll theme).

Agatha - March 23, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)

The results were announced at the start of the show so Lynn, now you know why you missed it.

Voting closes at 6pm on the following Wed and results will be made known two hours later at the start of the show. Yeah, groups will still have to prepare their dance items faithfully each week. If the group happens to be the one who is eliminated, they will just perform the item for showtime. That was what Break Force Crew did - the group that was eliminated on Wed's programme.

This will continue to be the case each Wed until there are five remaining groups who will then vie for the Finals. There will not be any results show on Thursday anymore.

My favourite group is Soul Fusion - they are indeed a force to be reckoned with - I still did not quite understand why they were in the bottom three in last week's prog. Platinum, Vas & Pris, Melvin & Sharon rank high in my list as well!

Lynn - March 23, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)

Thanks Agatha, now I know. :D

What? Soul Fusion bottom 3? Guess I really missed alot of the excitement!
Hope SF, V&P can be amongst the final 5.

Kellyn - March 26, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)
I like Platinum, full of girl power and wow a lawyer in their midst dancing so well!

They are so energetic and groovy. Hope they will go far!

louisa - April 23, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
melvin and sharon get into top 5 for the finals!

Sam's Mom - April 26, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
All 5 groups are really talented. Will be a tough call to make.
They've all worked so hard and have guts and gumption!

I like all the contestants, but I have a soft spot for Platinum!

KaiLeng - May 3, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
ok...so vas and pris got it..

congrats!

they'r so sweet!

carolinewr - May 3, 2007 09:41 AM (GMT)
all the five groups were so good!!
love vas and pris.. $angel

Kellyn - May 4, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
Vas & Pris are the deserving winners and gave an excellent performance.

When Vas did the opening for Copacabana, it was really captivating with his slick moves. He can really connect with the audience with his facial expression and body language.

They are telling their love story through their dance, it was beautiful!

KaiLeng - May 5, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
yeap..so beautiful :D

it's amazing how ppl connect thru the same interest.
