Title: Happy Chinese New Year!!
Description: Jon's 5th Newsletter

Here's something from our guy to spread some CNY cheer! :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------Hail Jonatics!!
Chinese New Year is drawing near and I am sure you all have been busy with the various preparations to welcome the auspicious, cleaning out your houses and rooms, getting rid of the things that you don't need anymore and buying that set of spanking new threads that you will wear on the first day of new year. If you are not one who celebrates Chinese new year, then you can gear up and plan your super long weekend right now! It isn't often that we have such a long break and it should be put to good use because before you know it, it will be over and we go back to our daily routine.
Personally, I am going to spend the first 2 days visiting (as has been the practice in my family) and I will be burying my head in assignments again. The past 3 weeks have been spent in school, weekends included (and I foresee this will be the case for the next month as well)! I take a really long time to write essays and I have a tonne of assignments this semester and I want to get them all out of the way as soon as possible so that I can have any remaining empty slots of time to increase my competency and knowledge of music. It has been a mad juggle the past month because everything demands time, effort and energy and being just one person, I have a limited amount of all the above.
The highlights of the month for me was watching Muse and also Eason Chan, to me the greatest form of respect I can give to an artiste is to attend their gigs and appreciate what the love to do best. The energy from both acts were very different but both were really enjoyable.
Being one who needs to listen to music while I do anything… these days I have been listening to tonnes of metal (the modern ones and also the old school ones), my playlist has generally been filled with Iron maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, Pantera, Black label society and Slipknot. These are really heavy but I listen to them so that I don't fall asleep while reading and typing. I know the stereotype that metal bands usually get and I'm not encouraging their lifestyles, attitudes or anything like that but its always good to keep an open mind and 'live and let live', know what I mean?
The other day I dug out my old Laura Fygi cds to listen to while driving, her voice is really soothing and I especially like her version of "Autumn leaves". Speaking of driving, my van has been in a decrepit state due to my lack of care for it, I hardly ever wash it…but the other day I decided to give it a "makeover" in the cleanliness department because I thought it would be kind of rude to go visiting during Chinese new year in such a dirty vehicle. I sent it to "SHINE AGAIN" and I was really happy with the results… I almost didn't believe that it was the same van. It was absolutely sparkly and clean from the interior right to the tires… it kind of made me feel bad that I sent in such a dirty van for the guys to clean. Anyway, SHINE AGAIN is newly opened and co owned by Daniel Ong and I heard that it was in support of the "yellow ribbon project" which planned to give ex convicts a second shot in society minus the prejudices so if any of you guys drive and you want to give your car a cleanup maybe you guys would want to give it a try. Info available here, http://shineagain.sg
Might as well do something nice right?
Till next time, I wish you the very best, thanks for the constant letters and everything. Its nice to keep in touch. Have a happy lunar new year and all the best in your health and career!
Jon.

Listening to heavy metal while doing your work? LOL. I find that if I listen to heavy metal while doing anything, I usually do the stuff faster, as if I wanna rush somewhere! Laura Fygi, such a contrast. Went for her concert in Singapore some years back, yeah, agree that she's got such a soothing voice. The kind of voice to listen to in the night when you just feel a tinge melancholic. :)
How come you let your car come to that decrepit state? tsk tsk. I guess giving her that infrequent makeover will make her look refreshingly brand new once a while haha.
Have a Happy CNY too and remember to eat more pineapple tarts and crispy egg rolls whilst catching up with your assignments! Yummmmm.

Dear Jon, Xin Nian Kuai Le!
Thank you for taking some time to give us another letter, despite of your busy schedule. Sounds good that you are working hard, and I am sure it is all worth it at the end of it all. Honestly, I know nuts about heavy metal music. The play list you listed out, it is all alien to me. If listening to heavy metal music keeps you awake, keeps you going, and get your work done....well, by all means! Let it ripped!
Oh yeah I am looking forward to the long weekend, it is really precious, I shall make good use of it, catching up on movies, is “Ghost Rider” showing already? And eating, some more eating..hmm maybe just a little. I am not into snacking, or into sweet stuffs.
"Since you went away the days grow long, and soon I'll hear old winter's song. But I miss you most of all, my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall...." Agreed, it is a nice song for driving, nice husky voice, she has.
I used to own a red toyota second-hand, not my fave though, due to budget constraint. If I have a choice, definitely a Mini Cooper! Maybe influenced by “Italian Job”. Ha!
Anyway, I don't mind taking the public transport, have you ride on the new double-decker already? They are really spacious, with big wide windows too. Good idea on sending in your car to “Shine Again”. Giving people a second-chance in life is really important, sometimes not all are bad? They just didn’t have the opportunities in life to start out like some of those fortunate ones. So…it is all good.
It is always a joy to read your letter. Take good care of your health, because without that, there is nothing much we all could do isn’t it? Have a Happy Blessed Lunar New Year!

Dear Jon,
Thank you for writing, it is always a joy to read your letter! Seems like your van/car ? is really shining brightly for the Lunar New Year , hope it brings you lots of good ' fengshui' haha . 'SHINE AGAIN ' does a great job! okay i will remember 'SHINE AGAIN ' when my hubby's car need a 'makeover' or a mighty scrub & i really think you are kind to let us know that the company is also supporting the 'yellow ribbon project' which is a very good cause.
Wishing you & your family a ' Happy & Prosperous CNY '
Susie

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your letter.Thank you for writing despite your busy schedule.
Yup, do understand that there are tons of school work/assignments and plenty to read when school is concern.
I was helping my niece, Jolene packd her stuff after she passed away and realised that wow! its really tough doing political science-lots of reading and writing.
But i'm sure you'll cope well.
Have a great chinese new year celebration, take a short break from your studies and feast on all the yummy food.
Today is valentine's day - wishing you a funfilled day with your friends.
Once again, thank you.Looking forward to your next letter.

rachel - February 14, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
hi jon
nice to hear from u again tho’ u have tonnes of assignments to do and limited time to spare.
fully agree with u that the greatest form of repect for an artiste is to attend their gigs; so while u enjoyed watching Muse and also Eason Chan, I enjoyed watching :) rain and listening to cliff richard. they too are very different; one a yg and current star while the other a star from the past (actually an evergreen!). the pure energizing crowd-rousing performance of rain gave the concert a “fun, fun, fun and festive” atmosphere with everyone participating by screaming/ shouting/ whistling while at cliff richard’s concert, fans were actually listening to cliff richard. the singing was extremely gd!
can’t wait to attend yr concert and enjoy myself tremendously - fun, festive atmosphere with great singing!!
btw, if u laura Fygi, u shd like sade too. probably u’ve heard her – very soothing voice too. can calm my nerves when I’m rattled.
no car, so can’t use SHINE AGAIN. If they spring-clean apartments, I’ll have a chance to do something nice!
wishing u and yr family a happy and fruitful lunar new yr!
lots and lots of love, smitten
rachel

Hey Jon, here's wishing you a Happy Lunar New Year too & stay smoke-free! :D
Kellyn - February 16, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Dear Jon
Your letter has really lifted our spirits! It’s nice to know how you have been the past month as we look forward to your every news!
I can relate that it gets overwhelming when “everything demands time, effort and energy” as there’s just too much to do and too little time! Your mind can get so tired! Hope you will have some free time to relax after clearing your school assignments.
Hmm, your metal music play list is alien to me. Listening to them while doing your homework is kind of strange for me though but it works to keep you awake while studying!
You are always so thoughtful to spread the message to support the “yellow ribbon project” and indeed it’s for a good cause that we go to Shine Again to clean up our cars!
Its only February and time really drags without you! We are waiting patiently to see you again!
All the best to great health and happiness in the piggy Lunar New year!!!
Lots of Love
Kellyn
