Title: Do a good cause if you can....

Barney - February 28, 2007 06:43 AM (GMT)
Hi,

I am not sure if anyone here have read a very touching story about Blackie - the stray dog living in Yishun for the last four years. Below is the story from The New Paper (including an adorable picture of blackie):

http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...1922340,00.html?
http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...2527140,00.html?

Do help to write to Nee Soon South RC at nssdrc@gmail.com if you want to help Blackie by giving your support that Blackie should stay with the residents.

By the way, I do not live in Yishun but I feel that one should be compassionate to the less fortunate esp. defenceless animals which do not pose any danger to us which we must protect against senseless and selfishness of some people's action - the world exists for all living creatures and not just for human.

Thank you.....

Hi Barney, thanks for sharing this touching story. The MP, and also a couple other residents, have already offered to adopt Blackie, so her life should be quite secure. And with all the smes, letters and petitions coming in, she should be aye-ok. :)

Blackie is lucky that her predicament was made public and that the residents love her so. Unfortunately, there are many other dogs out there with no such luck. And this is especially so with abandoned mongrels. Many people prefer pedigree dogs still. If any of you wanna help out with abandoned mongrel dogs, especially the sick or injured ones, you can check out the Action for Singapore Dogs webby.

They’re always on the lookout for volunteers and foster homes! :)

Hi April,

Thanks for sharing ASD website with incredible people (angels) at work helping the less fortunate animals being often regarded no more than a dog. The many stories of abused and abandon dogs have made my day heavy :-( but also some ray of hopes that there are still kind souls out there.

I think human beings are so disgusting sometimes. This boxer was found abandoned in a deep drain in Toh Guan, perhaps by a family who got her when she was a cutesy puppy and then decided they didn’t want her anymore. She probably did not fall in herself as there was no evidence of injuries of falling into a deep drain. She could not get out of the drain and was in there for apparently more than a month before she was rescued.

She was severely starved, and had mange over most of her body. The mange condition had been on her for a few months, and could be the reason why she was abandoned. Her eyes were dead pools when she was rescued, having suffered weeks of loneliness, cold and hunger. But now, after a few days of care, the boxer does seem to be in better spirits and will even put her head on your lap to steal tidbits from you. Just shows you what we can learn lessons from our ‘lesser’ friends, lessons on forgiveness and resilience.

Please, dear readers, if you do come across cases of abuse or abandonment, do help report to Action for Singapore Dogs or the Cat Welfare Society or something.

I can't believe it's a boxer! I have never seen a boxer look like that!
I hope it's not because she was abandoned but because the owners could not find her. I hope...

A boxer that has lost its punch... poor thing! I don't mean to be flippant, but seriously, although I can not always tell the difference between one dog specie from another, this one looks like it has been badly ill-treated. Shame. Are dogs used as status symbols as well?

Eclipse, guess some folks do keep dogs, especially pedigree breeds, as some kindda status symbol.

Sam's mom, we all do hope she lost her way and was not a case of irresponsible abandonment. :)

But on a cheerier note, miss boxer has gained 2 kg in the last 2 weeks, altho she's still scarily skinny. And she's turning out to be an extremely affectionate and playful mutt.

Yes. Boxers, labs, retrievers are very children friendly.

Sam's uncle had a beautiful chocolate lab and he would walk in one direction and Samuel would pull his tail in the opposite direction, play with his ears, sit on him, lie down on his body. smitten
