Title: Jon's 6th Newsleter
Description: Read it here!
April - March 16, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
Hey hey,
Its been a real long month for some reason, it feels like ages since I last wrote a letter. It could be school though, for some reason when I'm in school time seems to drag on for much longer than usual.. Oh well, since the last time I wrote to you I have managed to finish all my assignments well before the deadlines so am able to have pockets of time to do a bit of singing and make some minor improvements with regard to music. It's been rather tough though since I'm studying full time. Recently, I've been listening to loads of mandarin songs. The radio is always on 93.3 fm wherever I go. Improving my mandarin has become the biggest priority for me and will remain to be for as far as i can see.
The exams will be starting for me in about a month's time and after May I will officially be done with school. I have waited so very long to be done with education in the academic sense of the word. It's very exciting to know that I am going to embark on my singing career full steam once I graduate, I really can't wait and just thinking about it makes me smile. It is also rather unnerving at the same time because the chances of success in entertainment is very slim, best not to think about it and just focus on the task at hand I guess. One can only do what's in one's power. haha. Besides, i am really happy with my work environment, everyone in artiste network is great and the working relationship is very comfortable and the environment is very conducive for me. I love it here.
To reward myself after i completed all my assignments I bought myself season 9 of "The Simpsons". I am a huge fan ever since I was 9 and used to record every episode on VHS. When I found out that the DVD was released, I snapped it up immediately and I have all of them! From season 1-9! So proud of my collection. Oh speaking of collections, I have yet to watch my complete Blackadder series... Its been sitting in my cupboard for almost half a year now.
The month of April will be a little bit more hectic for me as I will have to juggle a gig, rehearsals, exam preparation all at the same time! But I miss performing so that will be great. Very much looking forward to it.
Take care in the meantime and I will see you soon!
xoxo, Jon.

Dear Jon,
Had a feeling you'd write so popped in here tonight just to see. 6th sense, what can I say...?
Well, take care of your health, your voice. Get as much sleep as you can when you can. Essence of Chicken, Birds' Nest Soup, etc, haha. And all the best for the exams - you are almost there, just a little bit more... jiayou!
Looking forward to your next performance.
So till next time,
Take care, Jon.

I login yesterday but missed yr letter. Was it a month that you last wrote to us? Oh..I thought it was months. For me, time dragged cos missed you lots. Fortunately, I have yr songs in MP3 so I could hear yr voice everyday. crazy, isn't it?! Hey, I'm sure I'm not the only one doing that.
Feeling the exam pressure for you but we know you can make it. Actually, it would really be good if you could do yr Honours as well....but...it's going to be 'torture' for us to wait for you. Really glad for you that you have a good working environment. It's considered a blessing to have good working colleages.
Yes, take a step at a time. It's definitely not easy to succeed in the entertainment circle but since you've decided you have to work hard together with yr Mgmt & recording companies. I think you'll have a good chance 'cos you have a very good & unique voice. Just need some good music/lyrics & good marketing strategies.
All the very best with your exams. Can't wait to see you in yr April performance (it's going to be a nice b-day gift for myself)
Meanwhile take care,
angelyn

Hello Jon
Thanks for the letter...
despite of your busy and tight schedule...
you still write to us...appreciate it!
Like to share something from one of my friend.
Sting in his recent trip to HK did an exclusive interview with CNN.
When asked what advice he'd give to young aspiring music entertainers...he made these poignant remarks...^^
"One needs to find a signature sound...it is important that listeners can recognise your style and associate that as your brand of music...."
He added...."And that is not easy...."
How very true....it is not easy.
It is easier to copy...to emulate a style that has been proven to work...BUT it is an uphill task to create a style that is independently yours...defend and guard it closely so that it is still yours whilst making it NEW each time so that it remains PROGRESSIVE....^ ^
Take care of your health and hope to see you soon!
:D The Simpsons Movie will be release on July 07.
I had posted the preview and trailer at the Entertainment Forum.

ahhhh …. letter from jon! :)
3 quick responses :
1 so nice - u show so well that if u make time, u’ll have time and u can do the things u want – such as finishing all yr assignments well before the deadlines (wow, wow, wow!!) so that u can do the things u want to do. it can so easily be that u have no time for us, given yr many things to do, but I’m glad u have gt time management skills!! smitten
2 mandarin has become yr biggest priority … it’s nice that u’re expanding into the mandarin pop scene. i’ve started taking mandarin classes, so i shd be able to appreciate the mandarin songs sung by u in future. but please, do still sing songs in english. hopefully, yr albums will feature both types of songs.
3 a gig in april!!! where? when? that will be the highlight of april for us, yr fans! u’ve been greatly missed!!
ok, exams will be here very soon, but then, school will be over after that! and u’ll be doing what u like. we’ll be there to give u support and hope that makes u smile even more (we love the way u smile!).
meanwhile, take care and all the best for yr coming exams.

Hey Jon
Just some encouraging words to you before your much awaited performance in MSU!
Believe you are working hard to give a fantastic performance after the long hibernation! Everyone is anticipating, the media loves you and we hope will give rave comments too!
You seem to be the main performer for the event and that's really good. Its an excellent platform to showcase yourself on national TV in connecting to the public. Could not asked for a better exposure before you finally embark on your professional music career in June!
Can't wait for you to blast the trail!
xoxo, Kellyn

Hi Jon
We waited all night for your performance and really love your rendition of Going Home! Of course, we wished there was another song from you. Anyway, we were so happy to get together again to support you.
All the best to your exams today and tomorrow, heard these are very tough papers so "Jiayou" and you can do it! It must have been really stressful juggling so many things ... and we could see that you have really lost weight. Just hang in there for another month of tough studies and then it will be over.
Meantime, do take good care ok!

Hi Jon,
I am very happy to meet you & really think that you are a warm & friendly person. Thank you for kindly stopping for a chat & taking pics even though you must be tired after the rehearsal & rushing home to study. This must be a really stressful period for you! Take good care of your health & eat well! Wishing you the best for your exams!
love
Susie
btw.. Love your performance at the MSU, a good song choice that suits your voice!
nickky - April 29, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
Hi Hi! Done with your exams yet? Guess you would have by the time and if you read this. :P
Well, you have done what you could for your examination and there's no point fretting over the wouldas, couldas, shouldas. And after your graduation, your life will only get more exciting, colourful and full of anticipation. So for the moment, just sit back and enjoy your well deserved break before the results.
Hey, I realised that I have not expressed how I felt about your performance at MSU 07, like the SI2 times at your blog. So this is for old times sake - watching you that night, I felt that you have become more grounded. "Home" is really a great song with a slight angsty edge. I thought you emoted the song ok enough although at some parts of the song I personally would have preferred a more emotional delivery. When I first watched your performance during the event, admittedly I could not make out some of the words especially those over the low notes. Maybe I was too busy watching, because when I later listened to the MP3 without the visual distraction, I could hear every word clearly and I could feel your singing even better. It was pure delight just listening to the MP3. Having said that, although I really enjoyed your performance at MSU 07, I was pretty surprised with the song choice. Your delivery was so in contrast with the ladies that had to parade. It was a pretty funny picture. watching the girls walking around smiling ever-so-sweetly and you, standing in the middle, belting out your guts with face scrunged up. It was to me, a very awkward sight but I don't blame the girls, because it was the MSU pageant afterall and like it or not, they were the stars for that night. Overall, I enjoyed your singing. Made me realised that I missed watching your perform. So awkward or not, thank you for the song, and thank MediaCorp for engaging you for that gig.
Hope we do not have to wait too long for your next appearance. In the meantime, take care and have fun!
