Live Earth, a 24 hour music marathon will go down as one event to be remembered in music history as well as calendar history (07.07.07). Featuring a smorgasbord of artistes with an array of music genres in eight cities, the event aims to raise the awareness of the climate crisis (global warming) that is prevailing on Earth - that this is as much every human's calling - flashes of "Answer The Call" over periodic intervals on the programme reinforced the stark reminder of this inconvenient truth.
If you were hankering for angst-blended pandemonium, Linkin Park would be the answer. These guys generated such tremendous energy on stage (Tokyo segment) whilst their music embodied the disillusionment of disintegrated souls. Despite an impressive showcase of a dozen or more numbers, I can only appreciate "What I've Done" (oops! what have I done?).
Bon Jovi was in their own element with It's My Life" and "Livin On A Prayer" amongst the brand of sophisticated rock tunes exhibited during the New York segment. This is one American band who truly defines the meaning of hard rock. I certainly prefer the current image of Jon (frontman of Bon Jovi) after the "revamped makeover" that he underwent.
One of the better pop-rock tunes to emerge from the 1980s is Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over". Seeing the British group performed once again during the Sydney segment brought back evocative memories as I fell in love with the haunting melody when I first heard it. Written and recorded around 1986-1987 it reflected the political and economical struggles during the era, "There is freedom within, there is freedom without". Such issues which were prevalent then never ever went away. I guess they will always remain as long as democracy remains a hankered and prized possession by humans as they relish to "get to know the feeling of liberation and release".
Despite the negativity involved, "when the world comes in to build a wall between us" and that it is easy to lose sight of dreams and focus, hope is borne by "we know they won't win" and as long as we do not lose sight of our goals.
As for Live Earth, it is certainly not over yet at least for myself as large segments are still in my video discs, awaiting my viewing.

Hey all
Watch out this Sunday on Channel 5 from 4pm to 7pm to enjoy the Live Earth Highlights, a compilation of performances by A-list singers such as Madonna, Linkin Park and The police ...
This is definitely much better as you see only the really good performers! Watching the marathon last week would have needed alot of patience and energy. Not surprising Live Earth failed to draw TV viewers in US and Britain as the telecast was far too long and viewers lost interest.
Just wondering that such prolong telecast would create even more global warming with the high watts needed for sound, lighting equipment etc ... contradicting the meangingful cause of Evo friendly??

Ya, I have this thought too…Sorry if I seem to be a wet-blanket to this whole event, but I do think perhaps it didn’t help if TVs had been on for long-hrs & certain cities were pretty much lighted up (unless they were using high-energy-saving lightings). Could at least have reduced the lightings of buildings for that day – then that would've helped conserved quite abit of energy there. But apart from that, the great cast of performers all over the 7 continents was such a rare treat for everyone & really liked the advertisements & short clips showing how we could help answer the call to this whole cause.

If the 24-hour music marathon of Live Earth has caused concern to environmentalists or anyone else and at first glance that it has contributed to global warming (through more electrical usage), it is envisaged that the greater awareness generated from the programme could (hopefully) offset that consequence in the long run. Is this now a subject of appeasing minds or eco-friendly? (rolleyes ....)
I do agree that watching Live Earth calls for stamina and patience; it is precisely that my recorded discs will now enable me to savour the performances in small doses. Snow Patrol was featured during the London leg with "Open Your Eyes", "Shut Your Eyes" and "Chasing Cars" from their album, 'Eyes Open'.
Indeed the 'Live Earth highlights' this Sunday will be a wonderful opportunity to revisit for those who missed the programme in full or partial last weekend. Indulge well!
