Title: Getai
Description: Street side performances

Did anyone visit any getai? Not that I am crazy about them, I went to one for the sheer experience. Saw lots of toothless old folks, with old “unckers” drooling over China dolls. Does anyone know why Hokkien songs are so popular at the getai? And those costumes, some are just bizarre.

Hey Kai Ling, ever thought of performing in one? But whatever, don't get into one of those garish, bizzare costumes. :P But can be a bit spooky, you know, when you think you are also performing for....

Seems like Getai is only happening in Spore. Check it out in Wikipedia

Hi Angelyn, the getai is uniquely Singaporean. So are the following: the raw fish dish during CNY, the curry fishhead (whatever style), eating fried doughstick (you tiao) dipped in kopi O.
Most of these have a lot to do with our immigrant roots.
