Will there be any autograph session?

syari - October 8, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
yes, it's a pity it falls on the day of Hari Raya. so means i've missed yet another opportunity to see him!

JonFan - October 13, 2007 09:36 AM (GMT)
It was yet another great performance by Jonathan Leong.

The crowd was very pleased to see him too.

We got there early and also saw By Definition and Catsinecradle. The latter was a crowd pleaser and could interact very well with the audience. I think they are more professional and suave.

But the star of the show was still Jonathan who sang the medley of Chinese songs (even host Glenn Ong couldn't pronounce the title so I won't attempt to do so here) and Daughtry's Home.

Wish I could go again tomorrow... smile3

Angelyn - October 13, 2007 01:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the update! So he sang his new mandarin medley of songs, that’s good! So far I couldn’t catch it at FM93.3. Will try to go tomorrow if circumstances permit.

louisa - October 13, 2007 02:47 PM (GMT)
is there any autograph session? who is coming tml?

JonFan - October 13, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)
No, there isn't an autograph session.

But you can get quite close to the stage.

Picture yourself in an exhibition hall surrounded by the latest sophisticated technology and let your senses be stimulated by the sights and sounds promised by high definition which this two-day extravaganza "HD5 Lift Off" held over last weekend at the Suntec City Convention Centre aims to achieve.

The only exception was that a portion of the crowds were there for a different purpose. Armed with cameras in hand and awaiting with bated breath, they were there for Jonathan Leong (JL) who was scheduled to take the stage in just a few minutes on that blazing Sunday afternoon.

As I am also star-struck? Not really except that lately I have been stricken by this guilt-driven conscience that the last JL event I attended was in June this year (not that I missed many, just two). Some fan am I? I have not forgotten the mission I need to accomplish and writing this review for the sake of writing it certainly does not feature on my current agenda.

At the stroke of 12 and emerging on stage to the strains of "We'll do it all, everything, on our own, We don't need anything or anyone", this distinctive number which is synonymous with Jon does not need any introduction as he continues into "I don't quite know, how to say, how I feel".

Exuding charm in his own quiet manner, his forte lies in melancholic ballads that allow him to harness on his baritone vocals whilst adding an evocative essence towards them. As the lyrics "All that I am, All that I ever was, Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see" were being emoted, it was a heartfelt vocalisation that came through on the whole bordering between a mix of vulnerability and sensitivity injected with an aura of intensity and emotionality.

How would you feel if someone said this remark to you, "You are like a magnet". The compere, Yasmin was apparently drawing an analogy of how Jon possesses this magnetic charisma to hold the audience enthralled.

Having said that, I would presume she was focussing on the unlikes poles of the magnet which have the capacity to attract because the like poles will repel each other and it is ironical that magnets only want to attract objects containing the metallic element (the "toughness" that iron and steel are made of ...... a Science lesson in progress).

Back to serious mode, I do agree that magnetic charisma is integral as it is one of the vital components that determines the staying power of an artiste.

Singled out for mention during the brief interview that Yasmin had with Jon was the hairstyle that Jon is currently spotting which is being emulated by some individuals. As to how he maintains this crowning glory, Jon's reply was "I usually wear a cap". She added that "It is a good thing that he is not wearing his cap so we get to see his hair". While his album is in the works, there was no mention when it would be ready.

It was down memory lane with Jon in his rendition of the medley of Chinese drama theme songs. To commemorate 25 years of local Chinese dramas, a few phrases taken from the different title tracks (numbering about 14-15) were integrated to form one continuous seamless flow of a single song. Does this signal an innovative way to sing Chinese drama or Mando pop medleys if that is what the direction of local music trends dictates? Perhaps it was also fashionable to add a tinge of western-accented intonation into these songs.

The Jonatics had a brief group photograph-taking session with Jon before he was whisked off by his manager and some security officers to take his leave. It was all over within fifteen minutes.

It did not help that there were no artistes lined up directly after Jon’s performance till much later so I will have to end here. Till we meet again .... Cheerio!

Thanks for the account, Agatha. Can always depend on you to give a really interesting review. Have to admit, when I heard him being called a magnet, think I rolled my eyes, not sure why also. Mebbe sounded so cheesy. Think I rolled my eyes many times that day. Haha :P

So happy to see Jon in the course of 2 weeks... firstly at the President's Star Charity and then at the HD launch at Suntec Convention Center. I got a few pics from the event, but Im trying to find some free time to contribute them to the photo gallery...

ÇéÇ£ 25 - Indeed, like April said, he sounded much better singing live than the recorded version.

DJ at 933 this afternoon, while playing this song, kept wondering how any singer could sing the song live without either forgetting the lyrics or mixing up the songs and the tunes, etc. No mean feat.

Lynn - October 23, 2007 01:02 AM (GMT)
Thanks elle for the video clip. :P

Enjoy watching the clip. Really like his singing! :D
His hair hmm...

Thanks Eclipse, have been listening to his Mandarin medley everyday!
(especially like the middle section, rather than the start & end parts)
