Try to go if you can, Diyana! You can go check out the megastores there, Ikea, Giant and Courts.
I think there are free shuttle buses plying from Bedok and Tampines interchange.

I hope it's just a performance and that he's not going to be a spokesman for Courts, like Glen Ong's wife...can't recall her name.

Ya, that's the one.
Clearing up Samuel's room just now and came across some magazine from Dec 2006 with Jamie Yeo's arm draped around Jon. What coincidental timing!

Ha ha thanks for the compliment... u can also upload your avatar if u like.
U do haf a point regrading the fact that we dont get to see Jon so often, but i need to add on that it's even rarer to see Rui En in town these days. And just for the info, I will be mingling wif the Rui En fans for this one, and when the event is over, I guess us Jonatics can go for dinner togather? :P

The organiser could not confirm what time Jon will perform. Do try to be there to support him as we all miss him, right!

I went for the Courts Megastore 1st Anniversary event just now... Jonathan was the second artiste to perform (after the vasantham star 2007 winner Ebi). He sang 3 songs... "Qing ian 25", a Jacky Cheung song (unplugged version) and a remashed-n-remixed version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time".
As the event drew to a close, the lovely Rui En was the very first artiste to emerge from the tent (after taking pics wif a few fans who were allowed to enter the tent due to the receipts they had), and soon after she had entered the van, Jonathan was escorted out very quickly into the same van. I never thought that both my faves would share the same van lor...
I took a lot of pictures of Jon performing... stay tuned!! ;)

To commemorate the first anniversary of Courts Megastore, a "Mega Stars in Concert" to reward its loyal customers and attract new ones was exactly what it had in mind. Proving to be the main draw last Saturday evening, it could have been passed off as an Artiste Networks' concert for that matter. Featuring Taufik Batisah, Olinda Cho, Hady Mirza, Jonathan Leong and Rui En, it was stars and fans galore and if you thought the euphoria of Singapore Idol had returned, I could not agree more on that.
Judging from the immense turnout of fans, it was indeed a wise decision on the part of the organisers to hold the concert under the great tent located in the carpark to accommodate the expected crowd. Never mind that the great canopy of white shielded the view of the clear skies and stars that night - the fans and public were more interested in the human stars. Nothing mattered more to these fans than the music and the sight of their idols who demonstrated on stage charisma that easily captured and held the attention of the concert crowd.
It is interesting how attending such events really do take me to places around Singapore and every performance proves to be a refreshing and eye-opening experience. It is also intriguing to witness the sight of fans borne on a frenzy of renewed invigoration over their idols. Though my review may throw some light for the benefit of those who missed last Saturday's event, truly nothing can be compared to watching performances "live" as the vibes that you derive from them actually varies in different individuals.
To illustrate my point, it was absolute pandemonium as Jon took the stage where the predominantly female crowd yelled and screamed demanding more - just let the testosterone work its natural course on them. Never mind that some of these fans were supporting another artiste, they went hysterical as well.
Reference was made to Jon's current hairstyle which has now become a part of his identity and image. In response to Cavin's comment about the length of his hair, Jon jokingly replied that he "will go and have his hair cut". This was followed by cries of dismay from the crowd which led Calvin to remark to someone in the audience, "Why, if he cuts his hair, you don't like him anymore?"
Indeed sporting a longer mane compared to his last public performance and donned in a dark-coloured ensemble, there was a certain edge to his persona that night. So what if he looks like a "pai kiah", the females just simply adore his "bad boy" look. There is an element of truth that bad boys get more attention from the gals. However before anyone tries to emulate for any reason, I will have to add that this "bad boy persona" can have sustaining appeal only if fused with substance ("real" brains?, I mean intelligence, lah). It is a great bonus that he writes expressive traffic-stopping letters to his fans often waxing lyrical over the philosophical aspects (being incoherent is not a problem as contents that are profound are more challenging).
His opening number for that evening was "Qing Qian 25", the medley of Chinese drama theme songs. He revealed that initially when he started recording this song, he kept "mixing-up" some of the phrases belonging to the other tracks. I do really agree that it is not easy to sing songs of such nature.
His next ballad, "Yi Lu Shan You Ni", had been rearranged by himself to give a "fresh feel to an old Jacky Cheung song". Sung to the accompaniment of two guitars backstage, it is an apt song to be dedicated to his numerous fans who have journeyed with him since his 'Singapore Idol' days. When translated it means - I have you with me on my journey/the road that I am travelling on. Though the path in an artiste's music career may not be smooth-sailing all the time, it is comforting and made bearable if there are like-minded fans who can anticipate his needs, empathize with his frustration and basically just be there with him in Spirit.
His third song for the night was "Time After Time" which was written by Cyndi Lauper. While many versions have been sung by various artistes, including Matchbox Twenty, this song has different interpretations as well (to me it is about connection of the mind and soul).
Comic banter throughout the evening was provided by compere Cavin Soh who should deserve the title of Most Hilarious Man of the Night. As this is JL's fan forum I shall refrain from giving further account on the other performers (anyway, I am already lengthy enough on this write-up). To sum up, Olinda, Hady, Rui En and Taufik exhibited their performance prowess with songs from their albums before the event came to a close. Instead of the usual finale when all the artistes would come up on stage once again to say their thanks and good-byes, there was an unexpected ending to this concert.
If you had just been enthralled by ninety minutes of free entertainment, the message from the organisers seemed to be, "you should not be expecting any more freebies". Am I right on this one?

Thanks, Agatha, for that commentary. As always, you have this knack of transporting us back in time to where it all happened. I did not make it to the event, reading this commentary is a treat in itself. Really. Thanks again.

Really good and meaningful write-up of the event u got there, Agatha... but u seem to haf forgotten one more artiste... Vasantham Star winner Ebi Shankara (yes, very weird name for an Indian, I know... Ebi is the Japanese word for prawn, shrimp or spiny lobster). He's the one who opened the show before the more popular artistes got up. (If im not wrong, Jon is the only artiste to sing 3 songs?)
I agree that Jon does look like an Ah Beng, but come to think of it, he is many many times better than a certain... nvm

Thanks Eclipse and Tanat, you are most welcome.
I have not forgotten Ebi Shankara and have left him out as he was mentioned in your post on 2 Dec. The star and main focus of my write-up is Jonathan Leong which most of the readers here are interested in.
A "bad boy" without substance and is crude is an Ah-Beng but a "bad boy" who has substance, is refined in mannerisms and is competent in the English written language cannot be an Ah-Beng so too bad (haha!), Jon certainly does not fit into the profile of an Ah-Beng, far from it.
This 'bad boy" persona that I am referring to is very common among foreign artistes who adopt this image just to blend in with the songs that they are singing. You can't be singing rock and edgy songs and yet look like a goody-two-shoes or a nerd, can you?
This will perhaps explain my analogy of Jon as a book whose cover and contents do not quite conform (you may be wondering what I am trying to drive at now, another profound theory?)
Eclipse - December 5, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
It is not fair to compare Jon Leong with anyone, let alone "has beens". Everyone has his own qualities, qwirks and nuances. So let's look at the positive side of each.
