Title: American Idol S7

Kellyn - February 22, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
Did you all watch the show? Share your comments here! Its still quite enjoyable and must say that America really has a lot of singing potentials.

Seems this is the year of the young talents! Saw the performances of the top 24 and must agree that some of the young ones are really good.

Some of my favourites are …

- David Archuleta at 17 years looks so fresh out of school, grinny and cute. He is a blast and Simon said if you got it, you got it man!

- Jason Castro has such dreamy grey (I think) eyes and love his shy captivating smile (just like Jonnnn!). Got a beautiful effortless voice that is so refreshing and you dun get tired of listening.

- David Johns has charisma and like his rock voice. He was a lead singer in a band and also had a record before.

- Anaina Whitaker age 16 years, looks rather matured but she sang with so much confidence like a professional.

- Amanda Overmyer has her own identity, a rocker style and a powerful voice.

- Asia’h Epperson was convincing in her delivery and gave a strong earnest performance. Her likeable personality shines through.

- Carly Smithson, not really my fav but was supposedly the one having the best female vocal. Dun find her that impressive, she is good but not exciting enough and somehow looks & sound common at the moment. She has recorded an album and MC records invested US$2 mil but sales were a dismay.

Watching any talent competition always reminds me of Jon when I was following the SI shows and my heart was jumping like mad whenever they announced the elimination results. It was something I look forward to watching and do miss the weekly dose that keeps our adrenalin pumping away. Wish we could see him more often on tv or at events!

Glad you started this thread. This season's contestants seem to be of better quality than the previous. Only similarity is that the crop of girls seem better than the boys. But at least no big, fat, black girls. Reality is such that with TV, MTV and the like, a good, powerful voice may not be enough for a shot at fame.

This season has some very young, in fact, lots of teenagers, good lookers - and can sing too. Think they are mostly professional singers, or at least have some singing experience.

My personal fav are:

Boys - Jason Castro and David Archuleta
Girls - Syesha Mercado, Alexandrea Lushington and Asia’h Epperson

Thought I promised myself never to watch reality shows, oh well...

Looking forward to the show tonite. :)

Hey, we are the only ones talking to each other again?

Oh, how come always seeing many silently browsing and not posting??? You are all so shyyy??? :)

C’mon dears, we need to keep the forum more alive and add to the fun k!

Kellyn - February 25, 2008 09:48 AM (GMT)
Garrett, Colton, Amy, Joanna are out but errrh Chekeze is still hanging there! Ramiele, Kady, Anaina cried so much as if they are leaving the show, drama la!

Phew, Amanda was standing with Joanna to be voted off? Probably it was her daring song choice that many did not like, so choosing the right song is important to stay in the competition.

Simon even thought she forgot her lyrics. She was good on the earlier auditions with 'Unbreak My Heart' & 'My Heart Will Go On', songs that people can connect better. Maybe her image is abit wild now and alienates her from the audience too. Gotta do something about her hair to tone down a little.

Btw April, this topic is your forte lei, expecting your witty comments! ;)

Eclipse - February 28, 2008 11:50 AM (GMT)
Did anyone catch the adorable David Archuleta on American Idol, singing John Lenon's "Imagine"? It was really beyond imagination.

Kellyn - February 29, 2008 05:57 AM (GMT)
Wow, Paula said that David Archeluta is destined for Superstardom! Yes, Eclipse, he was just superb with “Imagine” and his voice is awesome! He is so likable and adorable like a younger bro that you would love with all your heart. His sweet modest personality endears him greatly to the audience. Even at this early stage, just think he will be the one to win the competition but of course good song choice is always paramount and barring any scandals that would hurt his chances.

Chekeze was surprisingly good. Simon commented again on his ghastly orange suit last week, in good fun he obnoxiously poked at a grinning Simon not to always repeat his attire!

David Cook was errh defensive, Simon gave a constructive comment to help him gain more votes, not to do a boring film about his interest on big vocabs. He told Simon off that he did not need Simon’s vote, ouch he took it too personal.

Carly Smithson justified the high hopes on her and gave a powerful delivery. Kristy Lee Cook came back with her performance, has good potential and the best looker. Brooks White is really a Carly Simon type with her country style. Like her soothing voice but abit too predictable.

Kady Malloy just could not shine when she is performing, poor thing but was good with her voice impersonation and even opera.

Amanda Oveymar did not sound good and looked terrible, she’s gonna loose many votes. So much better on film with less make up and simpler attire. But she looked so cool on the harley!

Jason Castro was also out of place and oh gosh his big head of hair really needs tidying!

Eclipse - February 29, 2008 09:12 AM (GMT)
Like your commentary, Kellyn. You are so observant and certainly very attentive. I do not like Carly Smithson - she has that "witchy" look, despite a good voice.

Kellyn - March 4, 2008 05:32 AM (GMT)
Surprised that Anaina was voted off, Kady looked all prepared for the worst and was very relaxed when she was called by Ryan Seacrest.

Oh poor Anaina was so teary and sobbing away, she even said “its so embarrassing”. Probably she is just too young to handle and the rejection broke her heart. Paula was very encouraging, consoling that she is already the best 20 in the whole of America! She really deserves to be proud of herself!

Amanda is in the bottom few again, think she’s gonna have to leave soon. Her wild image and rock voice just does not appeal to many? Quite incredible that she is actually a nurse, what a surprise as it contradicts with her rocker chick image?

Eclipse, yes do think that Carly is not connecting with the audience or at least both of us. She does not make me wanna listen to her more ?? Oh, now that you mention her “witchy look”, think its the eyes ... can imagine her in a black witch robe with a pointed hat and whizzing everywhere on a flying broom??

Thanks and glad you enjoyed my rambling comments … ;)

Lynn - March 7, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
Okie...I know I'm abit slow...this week is the first time I tune in to AI.

Ah, only managed to catch the guys singing not the girls.
For the guys, I like Jason's voice but not his hair. rolleyes:
The young boy (not sure his name) is not bad.

Kellyn - March 7, 2008 06:29 AM (GMT)
Jason was so mesmerizing and Simon said he was absolutely brilliant! Can’t believe he has performed 5 times only in public and already having such a big impact in AI, what a talent!

David Cook took risk and was impressive with the way he arranged “Hello”, it had a very current feel!

Danny is kinda fun, always headsnapping and making faces! His flamboyant and mischevious personality adds interest to the show. When Ryan said he did not notice his purple streaks, Danny responded with an uninterested & bored “Mm hmn”, he’s got attitude la … like him or hate him! Cool and never bothered by whatever Simon said too!

Amanda finally delivered, like her performance. She was beautiful with lighter make up and looked wonderful without her exaggerating lion head. rolleyes: Simon said she was fantastic and best performance of the night, hope she will get to stay.

-----------

Lynn, good to see you here! The young boy must be David Archeluta? Its getting more exciting now and feeling the suspense of who will be voted off! Start to watch the shows from the top 24 only and enjoyed it. The earlier audition rounds are full of silly madcap performances anw. ;)

Eclipse - March 7, 2008 09:11 AM (GMT)
Watched the boys' performance on Wednesday, mised the girls' last night. IMO, the boys are stronger than the girls for this season. Look forward to the results show tonight.

Lynn - March 7, 2008 12:28 PM (GMT)
I'm quite surprise that the guys are pretty good. Still haven't catch the girls.

Kellyn, that Danny reminds me of Paul2hill...only Danny is prettier!

Oh, its the results show tonight, thanks Eclipse. wink1

xiaotong - March 10, 2008 09:57 AM (GMT)
i'm so in love wiv that 17 yr old boy, david archuleta(???), dunno how to spell his name. he can sing so well! but he always sing those choir type songs, getting boring.

why he keep licking his lips when he singing?

i think a boy will win this year, the girls not very exciting. got dat guy dat look like orlando bloom, but he sing so high pitch one, what a pity.

k-rex - March 12, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
Hey all,

I've been following AI S7 too...

I am so in love with David Archuleta too! If only I wasn't old enough to be his mum! Hahaha. But seriously, he is one gifted young man. My favourite performances of his so far are Imagine and Heaven (from Hollywood week). Not so keen on the last 2 weeks though (Another Day in Paradise last week and today's). Did any of you check out his other performances/songs on youtube? There are quite a few (not AI related)... there is one where he sings A Thousand Miles (Vanessa Carlton).. very nice. smitten

Next for me would be Michael Johns, love the Aussie accent, and he looks like a really nice bloke. Thought he did really well today with Across the Universe.

And after last week (and confirmed after this week), David Cook is creeping into my faves as well. Ah, he is so cool! Loved his rendition of Hello and Eleanor Rigby.

As for the girls, my top choice would be Brooke White and Carly Smithson. But I don't think they will win it. Brooke may not have the x-factor to get to the finals, given that competition is intense... while Carly may not have the support of the Americans, seeing she is Irish, and the whole hoo-ha about her having an album before etc.. not sure la, but I reckon it will be a male winner this year.

Loved Danny but too bad he had to leave so soon. He was adorable, the way he said "whatever..." to Simon... and TMTH! Haha.

Ok, those are my thoughts. :D

Hmm.. does anyone get a deja vu feeling whenever AI cuts to commercial or returns from commercial and the AI music comes on? I almost feel like I need to be holding a poster or ducking behind one.

xiaotong - March 26, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
David Cook is so cool! He was singing a Michael jackson song today but he made it sound so sexy. I think he will win dis season!

My other faves r brooke, michael and david archuleta. Anyone agree with me if i say dat it will be 2 guys fighting it out in the finals?

Agatha - March 27, 2008 07:22 AM (GMT)

The American Idol competition has now taken the audience back to "The Year They Were Born".

Going by Wednesday's night performance (local time), it was the night where the rockers took the stage - David Cooks and Michael Johns both delivered their stuff and showed America (including the world) what happened when you blended testosterony charm, conviction, originality and energy (and not forgetting sexy male vocals) into one.

Giving his own interpretation of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", Cooks turned the R&B hit single into a broody rock ballad. A force to be reckoned with, he is the one with the strongest identity in the competition.

Michael Johns finally exhibited his mettle with "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" which he effortlessly gelled the two Queen numbers into one seamless integrated piece with conviction. Displaying "star potential and resembling a frontman" as what Simon remarked, M. Johns also received rave reviews from the American press for that performance.

Between the two rockers, Michael had the stronger vocals and charisma while Cooks had a stronger identity and stage presence.

Jason Castro is in a vulnerable position at this stage of the competition and accordingly in the words of Simon, "if he has not anything new to offer ... he might be in danger" but despite these words of caution, he is still in the running for another week.

Syesha gave a heart-warming rendition of "If I Were Your Woman" which touched the judges but surprisingly the Gladys Knight number landed her in the bottom three and almost got her booted out of the competition.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart' did no good justice to Carly Smithson who almost got herself "eclipsed" which critics claimed was a wrong choice of song for her.

Brooke, Ramiele, Kristy and David Archuleta are still safe for another week going by the faith of the voters.

So who is out of the competition, perhaps Chikezie's "If Only For One Night" may fortell if that was the final night for him.

xiaotong - April 14, 2008 10:06 AM (GMT)
Michael Johns iz out! I hope David Cook and Brooke stays to the finals.

Eclipse - April 15, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
That was a bit of a shocker. This chappie's demeanour reminds me of JL.

Kellyn - April 16, 2008 09:53 AM (GMT)
Everyone was shocked that Michael Johns who was in the bottom three for the first time got booted straight out so unexpectedly? Ya, he is the shy serious type with few words like someone ... where is HE ???

David Cook is really impressive in the last few weeks and if he continues his form, he could definitely be the winner! Like his cool attitude and indifferent responses, got personality! Recently, he has outshined David Archuleta who is getting a little boring. Will both of them be the final two in the competition?

Oh, sort of missed seeing outrageous Danny who adds fun to show?

pinky - April 17, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
Yeh... David Cook!!!! ^^
Love him lots...

Kellyn - April 19, 2008 09:37 AM (GMT)
Hey Pinky, me too adore David Cook lots now!

He is so charismatic!

His eyes were wet when the judges gave him fantastic rave comments.

Randy "Standing ovation"!

Paula “You are It with the whole package”!

Simon “You are a breadth of fresh air”!

Absolutely wonderful David!

Yay, want him to WIN!!!

If the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber was meant for the movies, the dramatic turn of events that are going to be unfolded during the results show will sing a different tune and speak for itself on local television.

The remaining six contestants were faced with the daunting and insurmountable task of trying to create theatrical music to be "contemporary and relevant" whilst retaining its original essence.

If the performances of last night were anything to go by, the results certainly did not go in tandem with the performances. It is getting to be so unpredictable each week that divine intervention may be all that is left to salvage the situation which reminds me that "Shout To The Lord" was an apt choice of song for the finale during the "Idol Gives Back" segment two weeks ago.

The modus operandi of the voters and supporters (it would seem) follow a certain "favoured pattern" and one reason I can offer for the two shocker- eliminated were that they are not native Americans so could not garner sufficient votes to secure their positions in the competition.

Who has been eliminated or rather who is going home tonight - certainly "Irish eyes will not be smiling" for a long time.

Carol L - May 3, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)

Did you all see Ryan Seacrest talking with Idol Alumni Constantine Maroulis at the results show (From 5 to 4)? They showed him briefly on camera at several shows but this time, he got more exposure with Ryan chatting with him about hosting AI Extra.

Ahh…Constantine, he is my all time favourite contestant for all 7 seasons of American Idol. They call him the “Greek God” on Season 4!! He “left” his band to join the AI contest ….sounds familiar eh? like someone we love who also “left” his band to join SI…. wink1

Agatha - May 22, 2008 05:25 AM (GMT)

Going by last night's performances though it was David Archuleta's night as commended by Simon Cowell (who later seemed rather apologetic to Cook for passing judgement on him too quickly), it was rocker David Cook who emerged as the winner of Season 7's American Idol. Can this unexpected ending be something memorable to remember this Season by?

Having stood out during the competitions in terms of originality and his risk-taking endeavours, Cook even shed tears after he finished his third and final song in the competitive rounds (thought a cool guy like him would not show his emotions so readily).

Given his age (25 years) versus Archuleta (17 years), Cook is definitely more mature to handle the stardom, demands and unpredictability of the music entertainment industry. I believe David Cook will be really successful in his chosen field and even more so if he becomes a frontman for a rock band.

What does this competition attempt to showcase, perhaps that where there is conviction and perseverance in your brand of music the audience can eventually be won over. While it may take longer to materialise for some musicians, victory does sometimes taste sweeter if it is something you have fought hard for!

Does this come across as an inspiring closure to the American Idol episode?

Carol L - May 22, 2008 11:39 AM (GMT)

The David that I was rooting for has won American Idol! I am absolutely elated! yahoo

I am sure the other David has a very bright future too. I wish both Davids every good success! Congrats to both!

Carol L - September 27, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)

yahoo David Cook’s debut album will be released on 18th November 2008! The title of the first single from David’s new album is “Light On”.

“Light On” has premiered exclusively on AOL Music on 24th September 2008 on AOL’s pop culture news site, PopEater.com. Earlier this year David Cook had the biggest single premiere of the year on PopEater.com with “The Time Of My Life” garnering more than one million streams in 24 hours! wave

Ooooo…..I’ve been listening to Light On so many times and am looking forward to get David’s debut album when it’s out in the stores! :D :D

Kellyn - September 30, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
Hey Carol,

David Cook is cool! Have always like his voice and style! Hope to catch his new song soon!

AI winners and finalists are releasing their albums so fast and selling them by the millions, what a lucky bunch to have such a big market to launch their career!

Carol L - November 25, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)

yahoo Hooray! Yipee! David Cook’s self-titled major-label debut album is out in stores in Singapore! I’ve bought the album already! David Cook is such a high-energy eclectic rock album that is so DC style and has David’s mark on the songs! David wrote or co-wrote 10 of the tracks! Awesome! David is so multi-talented! I love every song on the album including the hidden track “Kiss On The Neck”. :D smitten

I feel that this album really shows off different aspects of who David is as a writer and musician. As DC himself said, “I just think this record is me”. I think so too, David! Congrats! Wishing David, all the very best for chart-topping, award winning, good success with his album! wave

Thanks to David’s official site and the Internet, I could watch DC’s live performances of several of the songs from his album even though I’m not in the U.S.! :D :D Happiness! You could see David’s different flavours in his performances from sizzling rocking hot to emotional and sensitive PLUS his exceptional guitar playing as well! And I think his new band is real cool and all the four band members are rocking hot too! mucisband
