Title: Jon is mentioned in I-Weekly (week of 17 Mar 08)

Carol L - March 20, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)

smiley6 Hi Jonatics! There is an article in I-Weekly this week about S-Pop and Jon is mentioned in it. :D They grouped singers in different categories and Jon is in the “Lady Killer” category and the sub-category “manly male” type! wink1 wink1 Ahhh…..fully agree with this! :D

A friend told me about this today (oops... yesterday since it's past 12 midnite already!) so I quickly went and asked around in the office and WA LA!, a colleague had the mag!
Hee hee seeing that I can’t read Chinese, I had a hard time trying to match and recognize Jon’s name in Chinese characters in the article! Moreover, there’s no pix of Jon. :(

Here’s a scan of the page for your reading pleasure!

Anyone can help to translate? Thanks in advance! :)

Gave a list of names of lady-killers, how som of dem are the pretty type but with muscles, then got some are also pretty but skinny type.

The last part talk about the rarer type of lady-killers - the masculine ones. Jon and Ah Du are in dis category - the manly category! wahaha.

Thanks for the scanning, Carol!

Actually being mentioned as one of the local artistes in the ‘lady-killer’ category in this article is a kind of recognition for Jon in the Chinese music scene. :P

On a side note, thought s-pop is a programme to promote and give recognition and support to the local composers, singers and musicians. I didn’t follow the weekly show but happened to watch the gala concert and find it rather strange why there were quite a no of overseas performers in the concert - was hoping to see all the artistes representing each category mentioned in i-weekly be invited to perform. ;)

Hi Carol, sorry for the very late translation, been real busy lately.
After being "tortured" in office for more than 12 hours, my brain is not really functioning properly now, so the translation might be with a bit of broken links...
Anyway, here it goes...

Not only in the tv scene there has always been a greater no. of females and fewer males, it happens in the local music scene as well. Way before Wu Jun's "Angelic Face+Body that will cause people to sin" type of guy became trendy, our local scene already produced pioneers like well-toned Jiang Hu,Tian Jing,Luo Wei Xiong and Chen Yu Fei. The trend for recent years, however has turned to "White Faced Scholar" type of guy, like the "alternatively" pretty Huang Yida, Sylvester Sim and Chen Meng Qi, who are almost "thinner" than paper. It makes rugged manly type of guys like Ah Du and Jon so much more precious.

Hope above translation is understandable.

Eilly, reason why the overseas artistes were invited to perform is because their songs were written by our local composers. This is to show that our local compositions have gained regional recognition. Anyway, overall the S-Pop concert was quite enjoyable. Did you catch the performance by Xiao Jingteng from Taiwan? He is an up and coming artiste. Pub singer with very good voice.
Dont think the organisers could get those older artistes mentioned in the article anymore as they have already been out of the music scene for very long.
Just a side note, the guy Wu Qi with his pix in the middle of the article is Eric Moo's brother.

Till next time ladies, I have to catch some sleep smile27

Thanks, Alice. I think that's a very good translation - not that I'll ever know since I don't understand much Mandarin. I'm waiting for Jon's March 08 letter. I hope he's writing it right now!

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that in season I, I was a great fan of Sylvester Sim. But now I'm definitely a Jonathan Leong die-hard fan!

Hi Alice, thanks so much for the translation. :D Sorry for the overdue thanks and long silence as I have been so busy with hectic schedule at work. I can understand what you mean about you being “tortured” at work as I myself also undergo “torture” at work as well!! smile27

Hope you have been “rescued” and now have a more balanced work schedule!
