eveline - March 31, 2008 08:35 AM (GMT)
Dear all....

here you go! A letter from Jon for all of us...
enjoy reading..you can reply your messages for him in here too.
keep our supports alive as always for him!

---

Hi everyone, I hope all has been good since february. This month's
letter is coming at the end of the month again because this month I
have been even more busy as compared to the last. It's all good
though, on the creative music front this month has been one of the
better ones but I don't want to say too much right now in case I jinx
it.

For my weekends away from work this month all I have been doing on
weekends is playing "guitar hero 3" and "Rock band", my friend has
these 2 wonderful music games ( I don't dare to invest in a
playstation 3 or an xbox 360 cos 1)its quite expensive and 2)I fear I
don't do any work as I am sure to get hooked on the set!) Almost
every weekend with my friends, I have been glued to the tv screen,
it's becoming an addiction, man. Though sometimes I feel that it's
funny that my work is music and my play is also music. The games can
be misleading though, it's much easier to play the songs on the game
than in real life!

This month, a nice surprise I received was that I got a chance to
review for teens magazine again and it was very enjoyable as the
albums I received this month were in my opinion much better than the
last month. I am walking on thin ice when I do reviews and talk about
other people's work because I know how much effort goes into making
the albums and I am not a reviewer by occupation, so I have to be a
bit more careful. It's a karma thing, I guess.

Haven't been doing as much exercise as i would like to this month and
haven't been reading as much as I would like as well, but I guess it's
never ending (the list of things I want to do). Time really flies
though, time to used to pass a lot more slower, at least it felt like
it when I was a child. In a blink of an eye, months go past and things
happen so quickly nowadays.

I've been thinking about what the meaning of "good" work is, (apart
from the creator being immensely proud of it). I think my definition
of good work is that, it lasts the tests of time, has replay value and
reinvention potential. I tend to be a stickler for things I like, some
feel it's a waste of my time but I really can re watch, re read, re
listen the things that I find to be good pieces of work. I used to
have the habit of only listening and repeating what I like to watch
read and listen to and I don't like at first (mostly because of lack
of exposure to it) but I have developed the habit of giving it more
than one try (I think its more fair to the creators) to see where he's
coming from and what he's trying to do, on some occasions it becomes
part of my frequently revisited list. As you all know I recommend
stuff quite a bit cause it's the stuff I am interested in, but I urge
you all not to waste money on buying them unless you like them, test
them out first at the stores or whatever. I am not advertising for the
products!

I re read Chuck Palahniuk's- "Lullaby", it's nothing like my other
book recommendation a while ago but I have a really wide range of
tastes. I think it's a very cool book, maybe you can go online and
read the synopsis first before heading out to rent or borrow it from
the library. It may be a bit too controversial for some but what's the
point in being so closed minded and conventional all the time. "Do
what you want! As long as you take responsibility and don't harm other
people in the process" is one of my mottos!
Anyway, about the book, I haven't really been following up on his
work, I only read "Fight Club" and "Lullaby" and they were both very
enjoyable so give it a try if you want. I will probably start on his
other works when I have the chance but i have a quite a few books that
I haven't even started on and not to mention, musically, I have so
much to learn, so reading becomes less of a priority. Wish I had 48
hours a day.

I re listened to some albums I have but I would recommend "The
Sickness" by Disturbed and "Intensive Care" by Robbie Williams.

I re watched American History X, a powerful movie that touched me very
personally, its rated R though. I can't remember how many times I have
seen this flick.

Till next month,
Jon.

Hi Jonathan

It is no April Fool's joke that I am writing to you here (but it is true).

There is no stopping you from achieving what you seek once you are inspirationally-charged.

If I may say, the non-conformist (he) dares to break boundaries and venture into unchartered territories where the conventionalist fears to tread. During the process he enters a period of discovery that risk-taking and the willingness to experiment when fused by a tenacity of spirit will not allow any setbacks or failure deter him from further progression.

On a debatable note, it can be said that solemnity and rumination are intruders in the chateau of narcissism and pragmatism but that is what human fallacy can fall victim to.

Thanks for your letter, it is always a pleasure and a mystery on what you can write on.

Dear Jon

Though work has kept most of us busy, we (I for sure) have been waiting to hear more news of you. Must say, March was pretty quiet or was I just too busy?

Besides progressing with your music and being busy, it’s good that you still managed to unwind by spending your weekends on your favourite activities. When you mentioned about your re-reading, re-listening and re-watching plus playing computer/tv games, I just simply can’t help but be amused when I think of what a typical mother would have said to his son spending his time like you did.

Imagine, each time mum passes by son’s room and son is either on the computer or tv, or re-reading that same book (mine does). Would a typical mum just keep quiet seeing her son like that? She’ll probably goes like this:
“Son, don’t you have work to do!”
“Son, why don’t you spend the time practicing your piano (if son’s taking piano exams) instead of staring for hours at that box!”
“Son, can you help do your own laundry!”
“Son, can you help clean-up your room and mop the floors!”
“Son, why don’t you go to the nearby library to borrow new books to read!”
The list could just go on…

To the son, “Mum, you’re nagging! Please! Give me break!” but to mum, “I’m just being concerned dear!” (ok, maybe, son’s right, mum’s a little too naggy!)

Well, I wish I’m as disciplined as you are to be able to finish a book within such a short time-span. I would love to read on biographies of prominent people who are great influence or inspiration to their country and/or the world. I would like to get hold of the recent biography on Benazir Bhutto.

I think I better stop here ‘cause I’m starting to be naggy & long-winded already. Thanks Jon for keeping up with your constant writing to us. I feel we are fortunate to receive your regular updates personally from you. Hope to hear of more regular events and happenings on you. Your writing and events are the catalyst that energise and keep our spirits going!

Meanwhile, jiayou on your album! Once again, please consider including at least one English track in your album – I long… to hear a recording of your voice singing an English track. (You sound so…good). Our local English music industry is still lacking of local solo singers. You are one of our hopes! But of course, we understand your directions where your music career is concerned. Thanks for bearing with us.

See you soon,
Angelyn

Really nice of you for taking the time to give us an interesting read every month and letting us know the things that you have been doing!

It's so true that as a child, we always wanted time to pass as quickly as possible and tomorrow to come sooner! Now its like there’s never enough time to do so many things everyday!

Glad that its been good on the creative front, you sounded so motivated and surely will have a good end product too!

No surprise that you did a good job reviewing the albums and was asked to do it again! Now, you are a sometime “album reviewer”? That’s just an extension of your music talents, isn’t? If you have the time, look forward to your write ups in the media, your writing style comes across so original and truthful.

Like the way you shared your thoughts in the last few paragraphs. … “I tend to be a stickler for things I like, some feel it's a waste of my time but I really can re watch, re read, relisten the things that I find to be good pieces of work” and “what's the point in being so closed minded and conventional all the time”.

Knowing you a little better, the way you look at things and giving us different insights to dwell on. You are really a sweet deep soul with inspiring thoughts! Stay the way you are, that’s really what we all love about you!

Cya soon!

$love
