Title: History and Geography

Lay of the Land
----------------------------------

Kharasi Weyr is located in the upper middle of the Tillek Peninsula, but Tillek has long since become ruins that were unsalvagable. Kharasi Weyr is settled in an odd canyon that breaks off into a plateau, but it is blocked by a large stone wall that was manmade as a safety precaution, with iron grates that allow the thin river to leak off down the size of the platau. The Weyr is something of the doorstep to the mountains behind it that leaks off fresh mountain water which supplies the Weyr's lake and river that runs down the elongated bowl. Though the Bow's rim is level with the mountainous terrain in some areas, jagged spires and harsh landscape makes it difficult to traverse, and a watchdragon is always on duty. The terrain all around is generally mountainous and rocky, spotted with great vallies here and there that houses wild fodder mostly, but one in particular was used for Tregad Hold.

Hurricane Hold is located on the tip of the Peninsula, and is a proud but small fisherhold with 5 mighty vessels that traverse the waters to catch the staple food and profit for the people here. Their numbers are small at something around 300 people, but they thrive. Izvand is further inland, and is a farmerhold etched out of the mountainsides themselves. Lower altitude than the Weyr, it is generally warm and sunny there and allows for bountiful harvests. Just down the mountainside is a Hold that takes care of livestock. These people total about 500 for both Holds and they work closely together to keep themselves going. They seperate themselves into two Holds only because of the lineages, since even though they respect one another, they do not wish to let go of their right to their Hold to combine to one.

Thyra is a Hold dedicated entirely to their forests and woodworking, which has made it a wealthy Hold indeed. They are closer toward the mainland and another Weyr, and though the rights of protection have been shifted to the new Kharasi Weyr, the Hold has tried to deny claimance from either Weyr, but has tried to manipulate both Weyrs with favors of goods and marks to keep their Hold and trees safe without paying proper tithes. It has grown corrupt, and their mountainside Hold surrounded by trees is now selling their wares for outrageous prices, which is causing all the other Holds much grief since they are all interdependent on one another to some degree.

History

--------------------

Time: 11th pass, 26th turn
Weyrwoman: Alesia of Gold Iolath
Weyrleader: Pending
Area: Tillek Peninsula

The project for Kharasi hold was 40 turns in the making, with stonecrafters and wherhandlers taking up housing there as they rennovated the ancient, half formed canyon Weyr. 32 turns after the beginning of the rennovation, and 3 turns from present, riders began to transfer. The Weyrwoman-to-be herself did not transfer until a turn and a half ago when her dragon reached maturity. It was so that her dragon could rise traditionally in her own Weyr, and the Weyrleader would be chosen. Strangely though, she was late in rising, and it wouldn't be until Iolath's third turn of life that she finally took to the skies. Until that point, advisors aided Weyrwoman Alesia in the matters of threadfall, since it is generally not a Weyrwoman's place to conduct such things when she already has so much on her plate.

Kharasi's current state is a slowly growing small Weyr that is supported by its sister Weyr, Tiazora which is located in the southern continent and the nearby Northern Weyrs. Their ranks are always supplimented by either Tiazora or a northern Weyr, since they do not have the dragon strength to cover all the ground.

Since the Dragonflight-era books took place in the 9th pass(I think), I have a few questions:

1) Are we assuming that technology has improved, since it is technically post-AIVAS?

2) Are we just assuming that the attempt to stop Thread failed?

3) Or were we doing an AU where there never was an AIVAS found?

4) If "yes" to 3, can technology still have advanced?

Thanks

Oh, sorry about that XD

Post-AIVAS, but AIVAS was never found.

Since it was never found, Thread was never stopped, and the Dawn sisters are still in place.

Well, with the technology and whatnot that's a little sketchy. I'm allowing paper in small amounts, no watches and things like that, but there are telescopes and even binoculars of a crude nature. Basically if it's feasable that they could have figured it out themselves I might allow it. Just run any questionable technology by me.

Oh, and windmills and waterwheels have been figured out and they use them for grinding grain and other contraptions, but no flying machines, no light bulbs but many things that run by gears can be allowed.

How advanced is the medical technology?

Nako - April 10, 2007 11:38 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't imagine that it changed too entirely much. Surgery is still possible but risky. I'd imagine they know the basics of everything but just don't have the means to do it.
