Title: Weyrleader Politics

Nako - May 21, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
About a sevenday after the flight, things were settling down as everyone found their place in the Weyr. The new drudges were a huge help already, and Alesia was allowed more rest than she's had in a turn. Of course, this meant that she would now have to find time for politics, which is something all Weyrleaders must deal with eventually.

Sitting back in her seat, Alesia frowned at the papers she had in front of her. It would be expected of her to pay a visit to all of the major Holds under Kharasi's protection with the new Weyrleader. In fact, two of the Holds had sent invitations already. Nothing had been recieved from Thyra, but that was to be expected. L'gan was in the room with her, and she called over her shoulder. "Hurricane and Tregad Hold has invited us for a dinner, and to send back the time and day that we wish to attend. It would be a good time to speak with them about tithes and how they will be delegated. Everyone is feeling the strain that Thyra is causing."

((Bleeehh... short, but warming up to maybe doing some searching and rping in other Holds.))

L'gan finished dressing and strode across the room to stand behind Alesia. Peering over her shoulder at the invitations, he wrinkled his nose a bit. Meetings like this made him nervous, not that he would ever admit it! But he had never been a particularly eloquent speaker, and he worried about the impression he would make on the sometimes stuffy Lord Holders. He looked forward to visiting Hurricane more than the others; he could at least talk fishing with the men there. He sighed and leaned in closer to get a better view of the papers scattered over the table.

"I'm going to assume we're never going to get anything from Thyra unless we take action somehow. We need to get the Holds to agree to stand strong. Thyra has resources we all need, and I'm sure it won't take too much convincing to get everyone on the same side. Which Hold invited us first? We'll visit there soonest and begin talks." He absently rubbed his forehead where a headache was already beginning to form. Thread was due to fall soon. The Weyr should be focusing solely on that, not on a renegade Hold.

"No, I don't think they will. That's why I think we'll just be inviting ourselves." A devious smile curled the corners of her mouth, but she soon returned her gaze to the invitations. "Hurricane Hold came in first, and I really wouldn't mind going there first anyways; I love boiled crawler legs. Also, I'm thinking we should bring along a small wing with us to these escapades for search. I know a few of our searchriders have scoped out Tregad already, but it never hurts to give another sweep"

Jotting down the dates for each hold, starting three days from then and the rest of them at times within the next two sevendays, holding it up to show to L'gan. " That way, I can get plenty of between time in to keep certain unwanted events from happening" She stated matter-of-factly.

Alesia's last statement brought a sudden grin to L'gan's face. A typical bronzerider, he had few reservations when it came to sharing bedfurs with a willing woman, and so far he had found nothing lacking in the goldrider's company. But he agreed with her- now would be a very inopportune time for a pregnancy. Taking the paper from her hand, he scanned the dates while beginning to mentally compile a list of possible searchriders, occasionally consulting Behemath for names. "This looks good. But before we leave, we still need to reconfigure the wings for Threadfall and consult the Candidatemaster about readying his new arrivals. And we definitely need more time in bed.... since you're so tired and all, of course." He smirked teasingly and lightly flicked her ear.

"You" Her tone held acid as she swatted away his teasing hand. Of course, he'd probably heard enough of that tone to know not to think anything of it. "And about the candidatemaster.. Nako has been in the position for a while now, but we need to find someone else" She grimaced. "For all she's worth in threadfall, she's horrible at being a candidatemaster."

The Weyrwoman paused for a moment, thinking a moment before backtracking. "Speaking of beds, I think we need a bigger one. It's big enough for some purposes but when it comes to sleeping, we're both all legs" She reached out to pinch the man's side a bit, somewhat apologetic for swatting away his good-naturedness earlier. "Back on the subject though; will we have it all done in time? I need to send word back to them to let them know when they are coming. Surely three days is enough to have everything finished?" Honestly, it seemed an atrocious idea that it would take longer than two days, but in a moment of rare tact, she'd keep her belittling to herself; with all the toil she'd been suffering, the workaholic woman was wanting to reap the other benifits of being Weyrwoman.. Banquets!

L'gan groaned and added another task onto his ever-growing mental to-do list. "We'll ask around in the lower caverns later and see if anyone's interested. And we can talk to the headwoman while we're there about getting a bigger bed." He grabbed her hand as she pinched him and tried unsuccessfully to stifle a mad giggle. He was insanely ticklish, as she had found out not long after the flight.

Finally able to stop laughing, he sobered up a little. "Well, it all seems like rather a lot, but I think if it took more than three days we're doing something wrong. But we're both absolutely infallible, so it's pretty much guaranteed that we'll be done by sundown tomorrow." He smiled and took a redfruit from the bowl on the table, since it didn't look like there would be enough time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast with all the work that needed to be done. Glancing over at the two dragons who lay peacefully entwined together, L'gan noted the bulges in the queen's belly and nodded in approval. "Iolath is looking good. It shouldn't be too much longer before we have a clutch on the Sands."

(Hm... This was supposedly a sevenday after the flight, but... *shoots time forward a month and a half* She's about halfway through term now XD Any inconsistencies are of little consequence.)

Alesia's gaze drifted toward the queen, reclaiming her hand from L'gan absently as a smile crept onto her features; a gaze that had only ever been set upon the queen, and the queen alone. "Yes, very well. Still safe to fly though, for at least a few more sevendays" She said hastily, just in case he thought it reason not to travel. "But can you believe she's going to get bigger?" A bit of dismay lingered in her tone. She had already grown quite round. "It should be a large clutch"

"So, are you regretting becomine Weyrleader yet? You probably didn't have to work this much when Behemath flew Limaru's gold. I don't believe much changed at all, did it?" A trap? Probably.

((Phew, extended absence, sorry about that. And I suppose I should read posts more carefully lol))

L'gan thought carefully before answering Alesia's loaded question. "Regret? Never. Live in the present and don't look back, I say. That's what 'Math does and he's been fine all these Turns." He grinned and gazed fondly at the bronze who had begun to stir. He considered leaving it at that, but knew the queenrider wanted more from him. He sighed and continued. "There was much less personal drama to be had in this flight, thank Faranth. A lot changed then, actually, though not all of it was visible. It was quite a slap in the face at the time to be told that someone fancied some other bronzerider more than you." His mouth twisted wryly. "So that took me down a few pegs, I suppose, leaving me as the humble person you see before you today, m'dear!" He bowed facetiously. "But as for the work, I actually don't mind it too much, despite my constant complaints. It's better to keep me occupied than to let me wander around aimlessly! I'm almost positive I drove Tiazora's Headwoman to near insanity before the transfer. So... everything's really quite enjoyable as Weyrleader, actually. You won't be able to get rid of me easily, Alesia." He finished with a flourish and his trademark grin.

Her mouth curled in a most sadistic way, gleeful that his past goldflight had not been filled with the firelizard tales of eternal love and such squish... Much less for her to feel awkward about. The fact that he had been so openly rejected by the woman for another man.. it made her have conflicted feelings. To be of a lower status and be allowed such freedom was envious, but still quite sad for the bronzerider if he had any attraction to Limaru. Oh well, it made her situation a little better.

Amazingly, she left it at that, making a mock-disgusted sound and waving a hand in his direction dismissively. "Even up to your teeth in work, you still drive me mad" He was a most resiliant and willing verbal punching bag, and was glad for it. She'd dessimate tender feelings in an hour's time. "So, you'll be willingly going after Weyrleadership again? You truly are a glutton for punishment" She chuckled, shuffling through her hides and crude grafts of paper that she had. "Oh! Tiazora has another firelizard clutch. Eggs will be given to the Holds as is proper when we visit, but I was hoping to raffle them out in the Weyr as well. Firelizards tend to make people happy, it seems, and I think it's best we keep everyone's spirits up.. but no more for me! I've half a mind to stay at the other end of the Weyr when the beasts hatch."
