Name: Alsvair (L'vair)
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Sexual Preference: Male
Rank: Weyrling

Appearance: Alsvair is what one could call a pretty boy. His hair is a blondish brown, cut in a messy, short style regularly maintained by any willing lass competent with a knife. Thick eyebrows rest above pretty green eyes of average shade and shape; his facial features are angular, and the most noticeable of any of his average features. He's tan and determinedly thin; although he's hardly tall, and five inches under six feet, he's avoided building muscles because he doesn't want to become stout. His physique and average looks definitely make him a perfect ladies'-- that is, man's man.

Personality: Alsvair is extremely candid, erring on the side of brutally honest; he's the one to speak out tactlessly in most situations, and would publicly tell the Weyrleader himself he'd made a mistake. Some would call him brash, but he's really not-- he's neither arrogant nor impulsive. He's quite thoughtful, but he won't hesitate to speak his mind. Otherwise, however, his nature is fairly quiet, and he's naturally an introvert. Some would call this stupid; others would call is honorable or brave; he doesn't consider it a fault, but as a result, he's extremely aggravated when others aren't honest with him. He's not deceptive by nature, and would finds it difficult to keep secrets he thinks others should know. He doesn't have a loud mouth, but he's a bit of a meddler. He only pokes around in others' business if he cares about them, though, and not due to a vindictive nature; it's not so much that he has a hard time keeping secrets, but he does get ideas about what to do with information he gleans from various sources. For all his desire to help others, he's fairly passive with innocent secrets-- it's just ones that affects others. He's naturally anxious about himself, despite being fairly personable and approachable. He's an extremely respectful person, and as such, expects the same back. Rude behavior is his biggest pet peeve. He's also extremely territorial and possessive of those people and places he's grown close to. He's fairly modest and sensitive, but at the same time he's warmhearted. Any of this would make him an ideal mate for many idealistic girls, except for the fact that he prefers men; this is unfortunate because he doesn't really openly admit his preferences, and he isn't the kind of person who enjoys making the first move. There's been a few notable girls who've mistaken is introversion for shyness and attempted to make a move on him; apparently, his having captured their hearts has led to heartbreak, and because of the amount of mistakes on behalf of girls in his past, he's very hesitant with relationships.

History: A Weyrbrat of Igen Weyr, the young Alsvair was acclimated to the presence of dragons at a very young age. Even now, he helds dragonriders in positions to be respected, but neither awe nor fear; as a result, he doesn't hesitate to point out what he thinks are their mistakes. His father, a bronzerider, was keen to not foster his child; although his mother was a bluerider, and the two were not official weyrmates, Alsvair held equal love for them both. Despite his father's wishes, he was sent to be raised in the creeche. At the age of twelve, he was given leave to live with his father if he desired (up until then, he'd been visited by his parents frequently, though he lived in the lower caverns as a part of that economy). He went to live with the bronzerider, though he continued his duties in the Lower Cavern, and frequently visited his mother. In his fifteenth turn, she died with her dragon from a poor Fall. He was Searched a turn later, and moved into the Barracks. Since his adolescence, he'd been having girl troubles-- that is, troubles with girls who wanted to be in a relationship with him who always ended up brokenhearted and either confused as to why they weren't worthy, or with a more full knowledge of his preferences. Just after he Turned 19, he transferred to Kharasi.

On 10.28.07, Alsvair Impressed Yulieth and became L'vair.

Family: Mother Sanavir, deceased, of Blue Relanth
Father Al'vne, of Bronze Ksarth, Igen Weyr
No full siblings; one half-brother on his father's side, none on his mother's

Pets: None

------
Dragon: Blue Yulieth
Appearance: Yulieth's frame is delicate and small, and in length he has struggled to keep up with the other blues, though he is not far behind. His color is a royal blue brindled with a darker blue for a handsome pattern, and some lighter blue barely a shade above the Royal underlies the brindles, creating the odd appearance of dimension along his hide.

Size: Small (Tentative)
Personality: Yulieth is very feminine for a blue, with perhaps more greenlike characteristics than most other blues. He is a bit of a gossiper and has a somewhat snarky sense of humor. He also loves to be admired. He has a vague natural curiosity that will lead him to spend some time in speculating, but that is nor generally a personality trait he expresses most often, or even to others beyond his rider. As he questions, and discusses with his rider, his vague search for knowledge only intensifies. This has made Yulieth suspiciously intelligent. He's also widely mobile in his emotional expression, perhaps almost dramatically over-the-top.

Pink and Blue Cotton Candy Egg
Where 'Hide My Pretty Face Egg' disappointed, this one was surely to dazzle. Sticky slimy looking strings of pink engorges much of the egg, with blue peeking through and overlapping on occasion. Sugary sweet, this egg seemed to prefer a more feminine feel... that is, for the sake of personifying eggs to make them more interesting. What is most interesting though, is that it has a near identical twin egg, only a shade smaller than itself. It's often placed right next to its twin. ((Link to Blue and Pink Cotton Candy Egg.))

He had to work hard to erupt from his shell, and this blue paused to take in air into his burning lungs as he leaned against the remnants of his shell. No wonder! He was so spindly in his design that it was a wonder that he was strong enough to hatch at all. In fact, he seemed almost too beautiful to be a blue at all! The effect of a green would be startlingly flawed with the deep masculine blue that encompassed his hide, darker brindlings more handsome than beautiful. He wimpered, but was quickly soothed by Quirky Camoflauge Green Dragonet, who very much was his opposite. Had maybe their personalities been switched while still in the Queen dragon's belly? The green would continue to hang back, but with encouragement, the dainty blue would now head towards the candidates, swiveling to and fro as any awkward dragonet would. My only issue is that it's quite literally impossible to raise a child when you are a dragonrider. I'll go as far as to say they can be mother figures, and even spend time with the children, but the kids live in the lower caverns, and a babe would have to be frequently babysat, and usually weaned sooner than later. I'd imagine as soon as kids start being able to eat, their mother might come around once or twice a day to nurse if their schedule enables it... but we have to face reality that they really can't 'live' with their dragonrider parents. I allow that children actually stay with the mother until they can start eating mashed food and can be safely taken off of the mothers breast.

I'd imagine that dragonrider parents can very well spend time with their children though; maybe even do parent-child stuff every now and then, but a dragon always comes first, even before children.

So, they can be mommy and daddy, but the lower caverns women are the one that feed, clothe, and care for the childs needs. This is a major factor in how Weyrbrats gain a sense of independence as well as be exposed to the realities of Weyr life and what is expected of them.

Other than that little thing, I'd say this character is accepted. There's not really a feasible way they actually 'reared' the child though.

OK, I edited it. I originally wrote that trying to remember how it was done in the books, but then I realized that the character I was thinking of had no dragonrider parents.
