Wow, Rose, this is great. Thanks for taking the time to do it! You also made me realize that I have to shorten Jalderyk's name now, which is presenting a small problem. J'ryk doesn't sound enough like his original name, especially when I consider that dragons traditionally began shortening their rider's names in order to communicate more quickly during Fall. This makes J'deryk sound too much of a mouthful (or mindful). So maybe J'der? What do you guys think?
Wolfie - October 29, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
I think J'der works best. :)

Thanks a lot, Rose! This is super-helpful. Although I'm gonna be keeping track of hatchlings to riders now, too... :ph43r:
And Fury, my vote is for J'der as well, although it almost seems a shame to shorten such a neat name!
Fury - October 29, 2007 03:59 PM (GMT)
OK, that settles it. J'der he'll be. Thanks guys, and apologies for the hijack.
labellerose - October 29, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
LOL, and here I was rooting for J'lderyk! J'der is much shorter

I think I missed honorifics for Jasyn and Zehper... Let me know if I am just being stupid and overlooking them!!!
Nako - October 31, 2007 04:20 AM (GMT)
I have to admit I actually giggle at the name 'J'der' because it just sounds like 'Juh-DUR!" dur dee dur XD maybe it'll be pronounced 'Ja-Dare'?
labellerose - October 31, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
Oh, thank God, I though I was the only one thinking it, and I didn't want to say anything and sound like an idiot!!!
Nako - October 31, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
I haven't honorized Jasyn's name yet.. J'syn just seems kinda.. funny to me. Any ideas? Though the general use of shortening the name was to make it easier for the dragons to say, but sometimes it was something completely different from their name, or didn't necessarily have to have all the components. As long as it stays two syllables and has that little... slur in there then I think It'll work. =P Like with T'bai, he went by Taibe which is shorter than any honorific, but his full name was Taiberius and he shortened it from that instead of doing just T'ibe which you wouldn't even hear a slur in it, and would pretty much stay the same. The honorific sometimes has to be forced, because all dragonriders typically want their name to sound.. dragonrider-ish.
But J'syn seems bleh to me.

Also, thanks for the list =D I've been so swamped that I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten around to it till after the hatching. Speaking of which.. I've got about one to two more posts before it's over, then we can have fun Oiling our dragons! Woot!

labellerose - October 31, 2007 04:54 AM (GMT)
