Title: Character Sketches
Description: Because I can't draw for squat...

Fury - January 31, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
This is my crisis of the moment. I want to be able to draw well enough to provide a sketch of each of my characters. I have very clear ideas of what all of them should look like, but if I tried to draw them, the results would be little better than a bunch of smiley-faced lollipop figures.

So, because I've based a couple of them on actual real life people, I'm just going to link photos of those people, because I'm selfish enough to want you guys to share my imagination. :D

This is Zenna in her Gather finery:

And here's K'jin with, um, riding goggles on:

If any of you fine artists out there feels like doing some sketches from photos, I would be grateful! But only if you wish to do it as an exercise to hone your own skills.

EeeeEEEEeeEEEeee!!! *foams at mouth and rolls around in circles around K'jin* =3

Not only will I attempt to sketch them, I'll also jump on the bandwagon and post images of what I based a few of my characters on. =D I hope you don't mind, Fury. ;D I'll make up for it with a sketch.

Of course I don't mind. :)

I love Helena Bonham Carter. I probably see your character as more of a Lucy Honeychurch-era Carter rather than a crazy from a Tim Burton film, but ... if you prefer her half mad, who am I to argue? I don't know Terna very well yet.

Would LOVE it if you would sketch K'jin! Squee!!

Also, Tasha is a perfect model for Alesia. Even the cool, disdainful self-control exhibited by that character is a superb match.

I'll promise you that most of Terna's association with Helena is purely physical. The only reason I refer to the way she looks in certain films is for the darkness around the eyes and the gaunt look. In her personality, I see her as being a mischievous ferret with a bit of catlike guile. She's really an awesome character though. I really should play with her more.

And K'jin.. Squeee!!! *fangirl meltage*

Yeah. I can't even say that she was the concious model at first, but later on I was sitting down watching star trek a week or so after making her and it's like.. 'doi!'

I've noticed you really like the sort of... not sure what the proper era for it is, but I take it you like the glamorous classic beauty look. I wish to own that dress for serious though. D=

The model for Zenna is Audrey Hepburn, who in my opinion is the most beautiful woman who ever lived. She's just - striking. Definitely not classically pretty by the definition of her day - she was a Marilyn Monroe contemporary - but she pretty much defined "gamine" in the 1950s. That shot is from the movie Sabrina, which I think was 1954. The body animation template for Aurora in the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty was based on her.

I love Helena Bonham Carter. Oh, those cheekbones, and those eyes! Very expressive.

Looking forward to seeing A'lond played. The life model looks like a human lion!

As for K'jin ... heehee, I know. I'm not quite sure what the appeal is in Vin Diesel. The voice and the body give me shivers for sure, but his face is kind of a minor car wreck. Maybe it's that flaw that makes him so desirable?
