Name: Henrik
Gender: Male
Age: Thirty-three
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Rank: Head Cook
Appearance: Built stocky like his father, Henrik would have more of a stomach on him if he didn't make working in the kitchens such an active job. He loves food, especially savory meals, and it shows on his 5'11" frame. He's lucky that he's always running around or it would show even more. His complexion is naturally olive, tanned from time spent outdoors when he can, and he has a large nose that helps to balance out a wider face. Medium brown hair is cut short to his ears so that it stays out of his way and out of the food. It comes down in impressive sideburns akin to mutton chops, however, and he has thick eyebrows. His eyes are hazel and deep-set. Neutral-colored clothing is his usual fare, especially brown, because it shows less in the way of stains and is easy to maintain.
Personality: Henrik's work is his passion and he loves food of all types. Consequently, a lot of his time is spent either doing his job in the kitchens or testing out new recipes and seasonings. Experimentation is usually the name of the game where cooking is concerned and he's been at it for long enough that he knows what flavor combinations do and don't work together. He's still looking to expand his repertoire, however, and takes in new ideas hungrily. This consequently leaves him with less time to develop his personal life, but that might change with the unavoidable hustle and bustle of the Weyr. He's never been around dragonmen for very long before.
He has ambition as far as his career is concerned and the idea of running his own kitchen excites him beyond all reason. It's a challenge he's never yet faced, though he believes himself ready for it, and he'll do a lot to prove himself capable to Kharasi's people of note. Consequently, he can be a bit of a hardass towards his staff in an effort to get everything 'right'.
Laziness irks him more quickly than anything else, whether it's in his kitchen or not. He grew up in a very industrious family with a strong work ethic and the idea of idle hands just irritates him, especially on younger people. The best way to mold someone into a happy, productive individual is to put them to work, or so he believes. It worked for him, and he's doing them a favor by assigning them chores and keeping them on task. Right?
History: Henrik was born outside of Tregad Hold, the second of four boys, with his sister born two turns after. His parents were minor cotholders with a handful of herdbeasts and a few ovines for milk and wool, which meant that all of the children were expected to pull their weight with the beasts as soon as they were able. He worked with his father in the fields for a few turns before he gradually expressed more interest in helping their mother to prepare the morning, noon, and evening meals, which freed her up to make and use more yarn, a secondary source of income for the family.
He and his brothers entertained hope of Search when they were younger, but as the turns went on and they grew past the usual age, that dream was left to dwindle away and he became more focused on his career path as a result. He wanted go to the nearby Hold and work in the kitchens rather than stay on the family farm his entire life. Consequently, he was the first of his brothers to leave home - with his parents' blessings - at the age of eighteen to pursue a job in Tregad Hold proper.
It took him a few turns to move up in the ranks, but he was good at what he did and had a real passion for food. The hardest thing for him at first wasn't the cooking, it was the people. Many of the kitchenboys would be lazy if they weren't closely supervised, some of the drudges drove him absolutely mad by not paying attention, and he and the assistant cook butted heads repeatedly. None of this deterred him from his chosen path, but it certainly did call for a change of scenery.
When he was twenty-seven, he moved to Hurricane Hold with the recommendation of the Tregad head cook to give him a head start. He gained a new appreciation for all things
fish in his time there, though he still preferred eating things that once had hooves to things that once breathed water, and briefly entertained the idea of marriage to a local girl before she decided to marry someone else. During his time there, he worked his way up to assistant cook before word spread that the Headwoman of Kharasi Weyr was looking to hire a new Head Cook, as their current one had decided to retire.
The opportunity was too much to pass up - head of his own kitchen, and in the Weyr no less! - so he sent a message with his interest and credentials. A few sevendays later, his bags were packed and he was on his way to Kharasi.
