Title: Rayya
Description: Young Girl of Thyra Hold

Rayya - June 11, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
Name: Rayya

Gender: Female

Age: 16 turns

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual

Rank: Eventual Candidate

Appearance: She stands at 5’7, having what is to be considered as an athletic build. She has a more rounded baby face, which leads some to believe that she’s even younger in turns. Although, the maturation of her body makes it quite clear that she’s not a young child but on her way to becoming an adult. With most of her family being tall she’s expecting to be a bit taller herself. Her soulful eyes are a wonder, there colouration being a light ocean blue with an evenly flowing mix of golden brown. She keeps her hair short, having more of a boy’s cut, but she prefers the convenience of not having it flowing over her shoulders and getting in the way. She often has to fuss with cutting her bangs, seeing as her hair grows faster then most would think. Her bangs are kept above eye-length, again for her convenience. Its undetermined what type of female she is, seeing as she has her moments where she seems to be more on the tomboyish type yet then her style of dress other days can be quite deceiving. Most males would think just by first glance that a cutie like her wouldn’t be able to hold her own, or pack a punch, but really… just be aware. She likes modest dresses that are easier to get around in, though she prefers to wear pants and a tunic when she’s working. She goes out for daily runs to keep fit and often exerts herself just to test her limits. She doesn’t put a lot of focus on her appearance. One glance in the looking glass, then she’s set to go.

Personality: Rayya has moments where she is quite introverted, because of the lack of friends that she’s gathered and the lack of close family contact. Though she’s not a shy sort, able to hold her own in a conversation-even if it so happens to be with a new individual. Her intuitiveness is based on her snap perception on how things are, rather then on her experience of how things have been. She makes an erring judgment on both situations and people, shocked to find that sometimes she’s wrong in both cases, since her judgment of things tends to be quite “on the ball”. It can be chalked up to the result of the Hold’s constant negativity and mistrust when it comes to the Weyr’s. You could say the trait has been inbred. She’s a person with a lot of feeling, and in an argument her emotions can get the better of her, but that isn’t to say that what she speaks isn’t truth. She’s quite a complicated individual, revealing little emotion in most cases while seeming to adopt a seriousness that makes those unused to her behaviour feel downright submissive. She’s not adept to gaining much affection, having lost out with her parents, yet when it comes to dishing out the aforementioned she is capable. She makes for a good friend, her loyalty running deep if she senses that a person can be trusted. First you must have made it to the point where her trust has been both gained and earned. She’s not the type of person to be blinded by friendship; she’ll still question even the closest of friends. Her love when received, yet, is pure and those whom truly know her inner person understand both her radiating strong will and her constancy when it comes to being in line with justice.

History: Rayya has grown-up, to her dismay, in Thyra Hold. Her father Jaekyn is right in the middle of the dispute that the Holders often have over the Weyrs. For as long as she can remember he’s always been touchy on the subject and quite fierce with what he thinks to be truth. He’s impressioned his beliefs on his wife Irayna. In turn both parents have attempted to subjugate their only child. Rayya had never been given a choice to bear her own views on what she knew of Dragonrider’s, though no one ever taught her anything good about Dragonrider’s. Still, from all the negativity she was used to hearing, she refused to place all of what she heard as facts or even truth. At the age of fifteen she was determined to find out on her own if what the Hold said about Dragonrider’s was true. While still young she mostly accepted what her parents said, having known no different, but then as she began to develop her own way of thinking (a sign of maturity) she began to have questions that her parents couldn’t answer. She knew the difference between right and wrong, and to her right couldn’t be labelling every Dragonrider to fly the skies as a nuisance. That would just be like Dragonrider’s labelling every Holder as the same! There wasn’t any proper sense in it at all. In her head she kept on tumbling over that Dragonrider’s provided the Holds protection from Thread, even at the cost of their lives. How could any man or woman with such a goal be no good? Plus, how could the Holders hatred involve the beautiful beasts that they rode? They were so magnificent to her, each one with a different shimmer to there hide…

Either way Rayya, whether it was out of a fit of rebellion or stubbornness, willed to be a Dragonrider someday. She wasn’t sure how it would ever happen, seeing as she bet that no intelligent Dragonrider would be searching Thyra Hold for Candidates. Nevertheless, she kept on hoping and praying that someday somebody would come and Search her out.
Her mother, being one of the Hold’s major Healers, often brought her daughter along in hopes of having her pick up the trade after a time. Rayya was quite focused on the tasks she was given in the Healer’s wing, wondering if her work with herbs and medicine would be able to aid whatever Weyr she may be sent to. She never dared to bring up her main life goal, or even talk about her love for Dragons, not with her parents being so disapproving and bitter. Instead she decided to live a lie, never claiming to hate Dragonrider’s herself but still remaining silent in the disputes against them. She wished so desperately that she could speak up in their behalf and unburden herself…

The rebellious side of Rayya often ran away with her, and the need to have her own unmarred views of dragons was strong. She did the odd job around Thyra, helping out both the men and woman that were eager enough to pay if even a small price for her labours. All of this money was going toward the one thing that she figured might give her a small taste of the Dragonrider life. As time went on she kept on listening around to try and configure when a Gather may be coming up. She knew that her parents always wanted to take her to these sorts of things with wishes of properly socializing the girl. When Gather time rolled around she patted her pocket full of marks, and kept her pack strapped tightly to her back, looking around for her prize. To her mirth she had just enough to buy what she truly desired, storing it away in her bag carefully-moving her beloved book well away to make room. For the rest of the Gather all she could think about was getting home, having been quite attentive while the Handler explained to her what state her prize needed to be kept in. She knew how rare these things were in the North, and she’d never recalled seeing any one at the Hold with one as company. She knew well enough that it’d have to be kept a secret, especially from her parents and the Lord and Lady Holder.

When Rayya arrived back at the heart of the Hold she sneakily gathered up all the materials she’d need for a successful incubation-most of which she found at the Healer’s wing (a place where she wouldn’t be eyed warily for walking about in). One night, while Rayya was fast asleep, she opened her eyes to a rocking egg. Her heart nearly leapt right out of her chest; pulling on her boots before she went over and sat on the ground. The light around the egg illuminated it and she watched in awe as the tiny creature destroyed the egg’s shell in its efforts to be free of its encasement. Its shimmering Green hide was an array of both lighter greens and an emerald hue. She grabbed some slabs of meat from next to her cot, having been prepared for days on end for this moment. She fed the fresh meat to the creeling creature, her heart beating a thousand miles per minute. She had never been so nervous before in her life. She made soothing sounds in an attempt to calm the flitt, hoping it wouldn’t just /between/ away. Instead she impressed. “Your beauty is matchless little one, I shall name you Coral,” she whispered.
That day she’d made a best friend, one who constantly stuck by her side unless Rayya had to bid her away because of her parents’ presence. It only made her wonder all the more about what it was like to have a Dragon as a partner, a soul mate. The feelings must have been all the more intense… It increased her questions, and at times her pains while she thought of never knowing what it was like; though her friend helped to ease her on more then one occasion. Now she knows, as a fact, that if Dragonrider’s are bonded to a larger version of her Coral then there must be some good to them!

Rayya’s still waiting at Thyra Hold, dreaming about a whole other life…

Okay, I see... a work in progress. =) I'll accept her as she is, but I want to bring up a few things that I'd like to see grow as you get to know the character and rp her.

Her personality. I've seen so many character profiles in my day, and written many as well. I feel as if I've seen every one of those sentences before. You have a lot of ideas of what this character could be and I warn you they are very cookie cutter. This is fine... if you can rp it well. I just want you do know that if you ever need to rewrite her personality as she grows.. that's okay.

Also, her childhood. She's been raised to HATE dragonriders, regardless of what she feels inside. Please keep in mind that children are VERY impressionable. What in her life changed, what did she witness or experience to make her think that there's no way dragonriders could be so bad?

The real issues in Thyra have been a bit recent, and it's quite possible when she was younger (before the age of 10 most likely) that she'd have more contact with dragonriders. Also there are plenty of people in Thyra that don't hate dragonriders. So.. maybe she has friends who are related to dragonriders to influence, or knew a dragonrider and knew them to be good.. there has to be a trigger for her liking to dragonriders if it goes against what her parents taught her or else it is completely unbelievable.

All right. *Thinks about the meaning of each one individually.* I'll re-write the Personality and try and think of... I don't know what. xD I'll add to the History... And then I guess we can go from there...

As I said, DON'T worry about changing personality yet. It's fine as is. I'm just asking for you to 'find' the character through rp because I find it difficult to think she'll have all these personality traits and none other when you get to play her. I fully expect some to disappear, and others to arise. =) Characters evolve, is all.

:] Either way I have indeed redone the personality! Perhaps it'll be more to your satisfaction, I'm really not sure. Rayya is thus far the most... complicated, I feel, of character's that I've really played.

I've put some more thought in to it, since I feel what you said was true. I re-read the old personality myself and thought that it bore the same typical sort of... whatever, to it.

Alrighty then! Feel free to start up a topic for Search then. It's a touch early for search but Kharasi is known for doing early searches XD

Keep in mind Thyra is almost exclusively a Hold that specializes in growing trees for both fruits and for building, so most likely her family will be in charge of a plot of forested land. There are 'breakers' of empty land in between the squares of forest in case of fire/thread.
