Title: New to the Weyr
Nafamere - June 24, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
The young woman stood there at the entrance of her room trying to sort out her life and how she had gotten here. She knew that she had been searched. That she had been hastily told to pack and prepare to leave a dragon back, but it seemed to go by so fast. Now her life would be different. From hold breed to weyr candidate in less than a day. The change had brought her almost to her knees from the prospect that she of all of the other people in Pern was selected to stand at Kharasi queens next clutch. Thinking to herself Could I be a dragon rider? And fly the skies of Pern to sear thread in the skies above?” She took it into account that just opening this door would be a testament that she would be determined to see it through to the very end.
She opened the door. Letting it open on its own accord to view the inside from the hallway. Noting only the bare necessities that would be required for someone, and another. She selected a bed that didn’t look occupied. Looking at the foot of the bed she saw the foot locker that would hold all of her personal belongings. So she opened it and placed her light bag into it with tender care so as not to break the objects within before closing it. Laying back into the bed letting her long red hair loose from its braid so she could release the pressure that the pulled tight hair would cause.
She laid there with her hair loose and green eyes closed… attempting to release all the wories of the world away...

Grumbling, Falin opened his door, walking out into the hallway to retrieve something to clean the mess in his room. He had been peacefully sleeping when someone's flitt --he didn't know who's, but he would find out-- decided it would be amusing to dump a bucket of water on him. So now he had a soggy bed, soggy clothes, and his shaggy hair was now hanging limp and dripping water on to the floor as he walked. For a moment, he thought he heard movement on the girl's side of the barracks, but he waved the thought away as he went back into his room to clean up. Once the mess was gone, he changed into something dry. That did not, however, make his hair magically dry, so it still dripped on to his shoulders, making that part of his shirt damp. Unable to go back to sleep, he decided to hang out in the hallway since he had nothing better to do. He idly shook his head, sending droplets of glittering water to shatter against the walls where it collected and slid to the floor. He watchd the water puddle for a moment before sighing. There really was nothing to do, was there?

She heard something outside the door... A dripping noise... then a splatter of water... for it was quite in the barracks. She sat up regreating that her hair was caught under her rear end. It pulled on her tender scalp... she made a whimpering sound before she pulled her hair out from underneath.
Once untangled she stood up and walked to the door, opening it inward. She was surprised that there was a boy, a older one at, that stood right outside. She quickly shut the door embarrassed to speak. It was so unexpected.
She leaned her back against the door. She didn't even have her hair put up right... she must have looked quite ugly...

His sharp hearing caught the sound of a door opening nearby. He turned quickly and managed to catch sight of a girl shorter than he with long, intense auburn hair and bright green eyes before the door was shut. He frowned slightly, tilting his head to the side. "Hey now, don't be afraid of me. I'm not scary, I promise. You must be new, since I've never seen you around here before." he said, speaking to her through the door. Hopefully she'd open it again.

She heard his voice through the thin door. O.... he had seen me... Oww... what to do what to do... She decied quickly what she must do. This was her new life. She couldn't be the same girl that she was before. She stood up and and turned around and opend the door strinding out to meet him.
"Na you don't scare me. Its just that I didn't think I would find someone else here at this hour." she said a bit shyly. "O forgive my manners!" she bowed slightly "My name is Elain, whats yours?"

He smiled as he saw the door open again. "Well, you can usually find me here at odd times, especially when there aren't any chores going on. I was sleeping a little while ago, actually, but got woken up by someone's flitt playing a trick on me." he explained, his normally chatty self coming through. "Oh, yeah, right, names. I'm called Falin. It is nice to meet you Elain." he said, bowing in her direction with a smile.

She stared at him quite quizzically. Woken up at this time of day? why would he sleep these days away? Doesn't he know he has duties to perform? She pondered the thought of someone sleeping all day... She herself had only slept through two days her whole life... well save her being a baby.... She would think that it would be quite boring.
"Why are you a sleep at this hour in the day? What do you stay awake more during the night? And what do you do at those tim..." She quickly silenced... could she be infringing on his personal life?
"I'm sorry Falin, I didn't mean to ask so many questions." she smiled weakly, while casting her eyes towards the floor. How could she be so dense… she had just met the guy… why was she asking so many questions? she started to play with the edges of her shirt… Trying her hardest to meld through the doorway…

He laughed at all of her questions, but then looked at her quizzically when she quit talking. She seemed embarrassed. Now, can't be having that, can we? "Hey now, no need to apologize. If you ask me something I don't want to tell you, well then, I won't anwer. But for your information, I was asleep because I was tired. Yes, I do stay up at night. And when I am up at night, I ually wander the weyr. Got any more questions for me?" he asked, grinninging down at her, his brown eyes full of kindness and warmth.
