((Sorry in advance for the length of this character sheet. =/ My creative juices started flowing a bit too much here! ))
Name: Waparvan
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Sexual Preference: the women!
Rank: Candidate
Height: 5’6
Appearance: Stuck between the final stages of boy and man, Waparvan is relatively shorter than most of his male peers, filled into a pugilist build, stocky and solid. To compensate for his short stature, he keeps his back straight and his barrel chest out. His face seems angles, squared with high narrow cheekbones hollowing out his face, accented by a large, slanted nose. He has thin, set lips, and small patches of what look like facial hair. Large brown eyes are set below a pair of thick black eyebrows. Black waves of thick hair are sheered short to his skull. Regardless of his short and stocky nature, and his stiff posture at times, he has a tender demeanor and a soft look on his face, with a smile that seems to twist his lips into a permanent, welcoming smirk.
((Waparvan is based loosely off of a very young Christopher Lee. The actor who played Saruman in LOTR and Count Duku in Star Wars. Think Christopher Lee in Sherlock Holmes circa 1962. ))
Personality: Normally soft spoken, Waparvan isn’t a youth of much frivolity, nor is he the most gregarious personality on the block. His lack of verbosity has been inherited by his mother, which means when the young man has something to say, it is normally important and well rehearsed. This makes him a popular favorite among many girls; he’s usually kind, a good listener, with a well thought out compliment here or there. He’s no Casablanca, far from a “smooth talker,” but his ability to think before he speaks does wonders.
His quiet nature usually leads him to not be too keen in becoming the center of attention. As a young apprentice, he dreaded performing in front of other students, and even to this day, he is embarrassed easily and quick to blush. He’s competitive and assertive only in regards to an area of expertise, and will step forward into a leadership role only if prompted.
History: Waparvan’s mother Arai never had luck with getting the location she wanted; her first posting as a Journeywoman Harper was at a small seaside hold on the southern coast of the Igen peninsula. After traveling from one small hold to the next along the border of the northern continent, she jumped at the offer of a placement at Telgar Weyr. She had always been a soft-spoken, obliging young woman, but the constant drone of small holder life fatigued her. She was tired of teaching the same teaching songs to both young and old.
She relocated to Telgar with renewed enthusiasm. The laxity of women’s inhibitions at the Weyr allowed her to take on a slew of different lovers. Soon she began bedding frequently with a young bronze rider, barely into adulthood. W’gave, a long time native to Telgar, found Arai quiet and meek, but the physical attraction they held was passionate and fiery at the very least. Despite what waning interest they had in one another, they always found their way into the other’s bed. Months into their coupling, Arai quickly realized she was pregnant, and as she grew larger with child, the pair’s sexual relationship fizzled quickly. W’gave reassured his support to at the very least, have a minimal presence in his child’s life. His future rise in rank through Telgar's wings, as Wingsecond and Wingleader, drew his attention away soon after Waparvan was born. While to most weyrfolk could understand and forgive such a transgression, the Harper felt slighted, the experience leaving her distrustful of weyrmen and their wanton ways.
After Waparvan was born, Arai stayed at the Weyr until he was 5, until need to complete her Mastery knots at the Harper Hall called her back. By this time, she was nearing thirty, and her young son was in need of structured teaching. Waparvan had acquired all of his fathers striking features and none of his boisterous personality. He was quiet and thoughtful, a doting personality that echoed his mother’s own. On their return to the Harper Hall, the young boy took well to music, proficient in the drums and piping, and became a favorite student among the resident Masters.
A relatively obedient student, the only vice that caused young Waparvan grief was his proclivity for women as he got older and his inability to control his or their desires. Time and time again, he would be caught red-handed and punished for necking down an unoccupied hallway, or ratted out for sneaking a girl into the boy’s barracks.
Searched first by a rider at Fort Weyr at the age of 17, Waparvan politely declined on the basis of his mother’s urgings against it. But curiosity got the best of him a second time, when a rider from Kharasi Weyr searched him again a turn later. Lighting rarely strikes twice, and if being searched by two dragons meant anything, Waparvan knew a hunch when he sensed one. Forgoing his studies and turning a deaf ear to his mother’s warnings, the young Harper relocated to Kharasi Weyr to accept his placement as candidate.
