Title: Tediousness of the Day

DragonsChaos - March 7, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
((Hmm.. imagine that.. Tediousness is actually a word...))

R'nos glanced down at his riding straps as Kasmith backwinged and landed in the weyrbowl with a slight thud. He had shifted during the landing and that wasn't good. He leaned over the side of his dragon's neck, looking down the right side of the straps. He could clearly see the freshly healed Threadscore on the brown's shoulder and frowned. The Thread that had scored his dragon had also scored the riding straps that held R'nos atop his dragon. He had thought that he had fixed the straps well enough. Apparently he had not. Another task to do today then. He uncliped the saftey harness that would keep him attached to his dragon should he fall during flight and patted Kasmith on the neck.

"Well boy, you're done for the day. You can go on up to the weyrledge and sun now."

Kasmith rumbled in return and swung his large head around to look at his rider. The faceted eyes were a gently whirling blue. ~There is one who can make new straps mine. He is called B'litz.~

R'nos reached out and scratched the brown over his eyeridge. "Very well Kasmith. I'll go pay a visit to him. Let's head to the weyr first though so I can get these straps off of you." He reclipped the saftey harness and held on as the straps again shifted when Kasmith launched himself skyward towards their weyr. Once there, he unclipped himself from the harness and slid from the brown's neck. He gave the dragon a healthy scrathing as he removed the massive lengths of leather from Kasmith's neck.

"Go and sun yourself. I'll get this taken care of." He was mildly hungary, but would wait until he had taken care of getting new straps. He would have repaired them himself, but new in his practical natured mind that it would only prolong the inevitable. He needed new straps. He strode towards the set of spare straps, the ones that were not as strong and were used only for flying short distances. He walked out to the ledge and began placing them on his dragon. "You'll need to drop me off my boy."

Kasmith only rumbled in response. ~I will still sun myself while you take care of what you need to do.~

Once again mounted, the brown launched himself off the ledge of the weyr and headed towards one that was high up along the wall. He settled on the ledge long enough for R'nos to slid down before gliding back down to his own ledge. Hmm.. so he had been left alone. No worries.

He walked a few paces then called out. "B'litz, rider R'nos would like to speak with you."

"Is that so?" A fluting voice echoed through the cavern, feminine enough to have warranted the one who spoke some sort of hard childhood for sure. A brown dragon picked its head up off of its ornate couch, tail swishing across the tassles that adorned his cushion. A man pushed past a stringed bead curtain from a back niche, garbed in an exotic looking outfit of reds and golds. His maroon hair was tussled every which way, mismatched eyes dancing at the prospect of a visitor.

The Weyr itself was a beautiful, cluttered mess. rugs and curtains worthy of a queenrider's weyr were everywhere, showing off every color of the rainbow. Some were thrown haphazardly about, while others were set down with more precise care, like the very middle of the room. One would wonder why a brownrider would have such things in his room, but then again, wouldn't a seamsman have connections? The coy looking young man pivoted gracefully on a heel, like a jester in a performance before taking a flourishing bow. "then you may speak, my good sir"

Straightening, B'litz forced himself to calm down and act a bit more civilized.. no matter how much fun it was to perturb new people. "So, what brings you to this side of the Bowl, R'nos...." He paused, a sidelong glance being cast towards his dragon with a silent question. "R'nos of Kasmith.. Straps? That's usually why I get visitors here.. and it's the only thing I have time to do, really. You'd have to blame Onerith for taking up all of my time" The snort from his dragon would be so powerful that it would ruffle the man's hair into even more of a mess, though he didn't pay it much mind. With a hop in his step, he closed the distance between himself and the other rider, extending a hand in greetings. "But yes, I am B'litz, rider of Onerith"

((*Chuckles* He's so bubbly...))

R'nos tried to stiffle the merry little laugh that threatened to break from his lips. He didn't know much about the man, little to nothing actuallly. Kasmith had been the one to tell him of the man's skill with leather. He bowed first then accepted the other man's hand in a firm handshake. "Pleased to meet you B'litz, rider of Onerith. Yes, I am R'nos, rider of Brown Kasmith." He bowed slightly to the dragon as well. "And greetings to you as well Onerith."

He paused in his speech as he looked around what could be seen of the weyr. The clothes were extraordinary. Now here was a man who knew how to do a task well. He would bet a full mark that this man let nothing come before his work. Here was a man he could appreciate.

"You are right in something else as well B'litz. I do require new riding straps. Kasmith is currently wearing the extra set I have. A Threadscore ruined my good set, and sadly, I am no where talented enough to fix them myself. Would you be willing to assist me?"

Nako - March 8, 2007 05:38 AM (GMT)
(Yes. I love this character XD)

"Oh! Thread did it eh? Your dragon is well from it? Well, I'd guess he would be if you're here worrying about straps" B'litz gave a knowing smile. Onerith, upon being spoken to, craned his head back to look at the rider, humming his acknowledgement. "But yes, -do- come in! I have quite a few different designs that you can choose from." Gesturing for him to follow, he came upon a large stone desk on the other side of the room, making room upon it before pulling a few pieces of well cut scripting hide and a few pieces of canvas out of a box underneath it. He lay out the different styles, and a sheet of leather colors as well as what sort of padding, and fabrics for the cushions. Nothing was noted about metals, since it was almost always the strongest of metal one could find. B'litz cared quite a bit about fashion, but not to the point he'd risk someone's life fighting thread just to have the perfect fighting straps.

"I'm not sure how much you are willing to put down for good leathers, but I'll say that the less intricate designs without the engravings are good to go if you don't want anything too fancy.. but maybe if you want something for those Gather days in the future...." He grinned broadly. "Only the strongest of leathers are used; I don't skimp on safety but they -do- come in ranges of colors. They can be dyed pretty much anything, really, but I prefer the mahogany colors myself. Also, when it comes to padding, I'll tell you that for the long haul you'll want to have the spring design. Feather stuffing is all well and good for a layer or two but you need something that won't go flat on you in the middle of a fall" He gestured for him to take a better look at the sketches and notes for himself.

(totally making up designs as I go XD)

R'nos nodded in assent. "Yes, Kasmith is doing fine now. The Threadscore has healed and soon it'll be just another mark on his hide." Pride shone through his voice as he spoke of the Threadscores that his dragon had. Kasmith was proud of them as well. They told the story of his strength and all that he had done for Pern to protect it.

R'nos looked at the designs and smiled. Here was a truely talented man who knew his craft well. "Cost doesn't much matter. What matters is that the leather will hold and Kasmith won't have to try and catch me." He fingered a few of the designs. Most were more ornate than was practical, but he enjoyed looking at them. "I like the idea of mahogany, it will go well with Kasmith's coloring. As for ornateness, it doesn't have to be overly done. A few tooled designs would be sufficent."

He continued to look at the works around him. "Padding is a must though. Kasmith has a bony neck, though he insists that he is fat."

He took a look at some of the more ornate designs. They were pleasing to look at, and should he attend a gather in the future, it would bode well to have his dragon dressed to impress. "I just may petition you to make a set for a gather as well. So far I have no fancy straps to impress people with. Perhaps it would be good." And since he would have good fighting straps first, fancy straps for gathers would be purchased as well.

B'litz nooded rather solemly. "I don't see how anyone can fight thread without proper padding. Methinks I'd be a few pieces short of a man without one!" B'litz laughed at his own joke as he scribbled some things on a piece of hide. "So.. mahogany... and a simple naturally colored pad? I also recommend wool for pads as well as padding on the underside of the straps. It's most comfortable and fur lining wears off too easily. Now, I'll tell you. I charge service fees but Alesia makes sure to supply material. You're going simple, so you are saving shard-tons of marks" He winked. "Did you know that Alesia did that? Aye, she takes care of even greenriders in such a way" He grinned so broadly it looked painful. "But yes, gather designs have to be special ordered by yours truly"

He looked back down to his notes, doing a few calculations of costs and whatnot. "Yep... brand new straps are going to cost you only eight marks, and that's mostly for labor"

(Still getting up what the mark system is right now, but I'm guestimating regular dragon straps are usually at cheapest, 12, at their most expensive.. well over 20 marks XD)
