James 1:22- "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
God's Word is one of the greatest gifts that He has ever given to us. It is a source of encouragement. It is a source of guidance. It is a source of help. It is a source of correction. It is a source of so many things that we need, and I can't imagine what life would be like had the Lord not given us His precious Word!
However, we often forget that great gifts don't come without great responsibilities. So, what great responsibility accompanies the gift of God's Word? Quite simply, it is the responsibility to hear it and obey it. One or the other isn't enough- the full responsibility entails both. Have you noticed, though, how many people hear what God's Word says and yet manage to convince themselves that it doesn't apply to them? They'll say "Amen!" to the preacher's message but won't apply it to their lives. They'll just read the Bible and leave it at that. They are "hearers only", and they are deceiving themselves by not obeying the Word as well. By doing this, they miss the full impact and blessing of this wonderful gift from the Lord.
Let me encourage you to be a "doer of the word" as well as a "hearer of the word". Treat this wonderful gift that the Lord has given us with the respect and diligence that it deserves.

Your devotions and "ponderings" bless me every week. Thank you, Pastor Chadley, for taking time out of your busy schedule each week to share your thoughts and your heart with us.
Wonderful devotion Bro Chad...thanks so much. I think so many people have no clue how powerful the WORD is....I wonder how they live day to day without the strength, healing and wisdom.
My prayer is to be doer more and more every day. I pray that I will alway have a heart for doing whatever God Has in store for me. thanks for sharing God with us all.
