Title: Devotional: Week Of 3/12/2007
Description: I Corinthians 10:13

Chadley - March 12, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
I Corinthians 10:13- "There hath no temptation take you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

One phrase that really frustrates me is, "The Devil made me do it." It frustrates me that Christians think Satan still has some sort of automatic power over them. OK, maybe that particular phrase isn't used much anymore, but the attitude it conveys is prevalent today in many other ways. And it is that attitude that it hurting and hindering many Christians.

This verse tells us that we serve a God who is faithful to His children. He will make a way of escape for any temptation that we face. In other words, for the Christian there is no such thing as an irresistable temptation. Satan can tempt us all he wants, but he cannot make us give in. The only way that Satan has any power over a child of God is if the child of God gives him that power.

Why do Christians give Satan that power? Why do they often miss the "way of escape" that God has provided? Maybe they don't see it. Maybe they don't like it. Maybe they think they have a better one. There are many more reasons I could mention, but it all boils down to one thing: we need to have a strong, close relationship with God if we are to clearly see the "way of escape". A believer's relationship with the Lord is of paramount importance. When that relationship slips, we begin to give Satan some power over us.

So remember: Satan is powerless over you unless you give him power. Make your relationship with God your #1 priority, and you will be able to more clearly see those "ways of escape" that He provides.

Thanks Pastor Chad for reminding us not to give Satan any power over us, and to remember to stay closer to GOD today than we was yesterday' and not as close to God today as we will be tomorrow.
